First goal from England U17's win over France today, created by Ipswich's Andre Dozzell and finished by Ipswich's Ben Morris :2thumb:

This is what the Daily Mail thought the 2016 England team would look like back in 2007:

I agree Hutchinson should be in the team.

Well late agony for the Under 17s and then the typical penalty shoot out defeat!

Not that typical. In 2014 we won it on penalties. This crop is more talented than that one (Jadon Sancho might genuinely end up being world class), except in the goalkeeping department, which is probably what cost us.

After easing past Argentina, they drew 1-1 with Guinea. Lewis Cook with a 30 odd yard piledriver. Comical own goal gifts away an equaliser I gather.

Looking at some of the results I am guessing most of the high profile nations have not got their best Under 20s playing?

As I said in the box, they do. The Europeans are an exception though as they prioritise the U21 Euros which is in a month, hence why some players like Mbappe, Chiesa and Rashford aren't here. They still send good talent though like Lookman, Orsolini and Saint-Maximin.

The AFC and CONMEBOL sides all sent their strongest squads. As have Mexico and New Zealand. No clue on Vanuatu and the CAF sides though.

England through to the last 8 after beating Costa Rica 2-1. In truth they should have wrapped the game up far sooner, but were made to sweat it out in the end. England will face the winner of Mexico v Senegal for a shot at the Semi Finals.

Zambia have knocked out Germany 4-3 AET!...It's no fluke, as Zambia were 3-1 up in the 87th minute of normal time before a mini German comeback equalised.

England have a good shot at the final if I'm honest. The next round SHOULD be a free pass. I can never count on England but Mexico and Senegal are dreadful and it would be a failure if they can't beat them. The challenge is in the semi's which will be one of France, Italy or Zambia.

England beat Mexico 1-0 and head into the Semis.

Solanke with a tidy finish after a splendid through ball from Lewis Cook cut the Mexican defence in half. England then had to defend with 10 men for the last 20 minutes after Onomah was sent off. Sounded a real backs against the wall effort at the end. Italy will be the semi final opponent.

Did you see the card for Onomah? He beat a man with a turn inside, the defender sticks his leg out without getting near the ball and Onomah steps on his leg during his stride. Ridiculous decision.

Future is bright - potentially?

Lets hope these guys do get a chance with their club's first team at some point as clearly there is some quality there - or don't get gobbled up by greedy agents who just put the talk of money and fame into their heads.

As is usually the issue: How do we move decent teenagers on from this point; to regular Premier League or similar standard senior football. Many slip into obscurity, others kind of make it but stagnate and don't continue developing past this age, once they've landed a nice big contract.

Maybe Solanke was given assurances about first team involvement with Liverpool, will they follow through with that? Can Ojo avoid the Ibe path. Will Everton start using Calvert-Lewin, Dowell and Lookman week in week out? We need to make Cook a regular starter here because he's more talented than our other experienced campaigners, reliable as they may be. But that's just it - it takes an element of risk to start using these lads routinely, risk that managers top flight and otherwise are too often afraid to take on.

If we look back in a season or two and find that none of the above have become regulars at those clubs then it'll be a real shame. History tells us that it's a likely outcome unfortunately.

Some great work being done by Paul Simpson and his squad, hope we can win it. First ever final for the U20's.

Out of all the England players, I really like Cook, Lookman and Ononah. I think all 3 have a shot with a bit of luck
