I love reading some of the comments expressing outrage. Honestly, who give a hoot if? Christmas was a Christian holiday but it's now just a commercialised money-spinner.

Being atheist myself, I'd object to Christmas being an overtly Christian festival, because while it may have Christian name now, just about every culture you can imagine has or had a similar festival around the same time of year. Christmas is a particularly odd thing to get too religiously worked up about IMHO, because the whole thing is an amalgamation of so many different culture's festivals over time.

The 25th of December? - The Feat of the Unconquered Sun God Sol.
The earlier Romans said of their 23rd December (Pagan) Saturnalia:

‘During (the) week the serious is barred: no business allowed. Drinking and being drunk, noise and games of dice, appointing of kings and feasting of slaves, singing naked, clapping … an occasional ducking of corked faces in icy water – such are the functions over which I preside.’

Dunno about you but that sounds much like Christmas at the in-laws to me.

And if Christmas is about one thing, it's goodwill to your fellow man and all that jazz. If including a few Muslims in our Christmas media helps integration into British culture any then it's all good.

The issue of halal meat and packaging is a different kettle of fish (or cow) and is a topic for another day.

Forgetting the commercial aspect of the ad, I presume they are trying to promote inclusivity.

IMO, this would be better served by minority groups inviting the majority into their lives - to better understand how they live. Most people’s fears on race/religion stem from a lack of knowledge of how others live.

This depends, of course, on whether minorities actually want to integrate

Kind of in agreement with the comments so far. Why people are getting so exercised about this baffles me. These are the same people who whine about Muslims not integrating.

Agree with the comments that it's a non issue and who cares, however also agree that it's PC gone made that Tesco feel they have to make adverts like this.

A big fuss is being made of a minor - indeed, a non - issue and undue attention is being given to the comments of a few people who aren't representative of the majority of the population who are only too happy to see Muslim children enjoying the magic of Christmas too.

I think children get it right. They don't think of Christmas as an exclusively Christian festival. They all get excited together.

Adults could learn a lot from their children.

Look at these kids having fun, meeting Santa at school. Look at their smiling faces.
What is there not to like in this picture..?

I suspect this is the sort of clickbaity non-story that the Indie seemingly loves plastering all over its website these days. Nevertheless...

Yep, it's the sort of thing that really exposes people's hypocrisy. Those that think that Islam is anathema to British culture and believe that its adherents can't or won't integrate should surely be delighted by the concept of a family of British Muslims embracing Christmas. Unless you want to dictate to people how they experience Christmas - which would be strange given that it has all sorts of borrowed traditions and, for a great many of us, is a secular celebration, anyway - I can't think how you could even remotely object. I suspect that for those that do, acknowledging that some British Muslims buy into Christmas and all sorts of other aspects of British/Western culture, means confronting their own prejudices. And it's easier to continue to believe that Muslims are the bad guys who burn poppies and behead infidels. So instead of it being nice that something might unite people in fractious times, it's bad coz this thing we like is being hijacked by those nasty Muslims, aided by their mates, the loony lefty pc gone mad traitors who will be the downfall of this great civilisation etc. At least, as one of those tweets sagely points out, we might temporarily encounter fewer racists in Tesco.

As discussed, it's something really strange to get so upset about. People have too much time on their hands.

Might sounds strange but I don't personally think of Christmas as being a Christian festival, I don't really recognise Christianity or any religion. Of course I spend the time off at home with family but I do my best to ignore the religious aspect of it where possible.

When I got married I was determined for it not to be in a church. My daughter isn't christened. I'm not christened. The only time I've ever been to church is for weddings and funerals.

But you know, if that's what others want to do then that's up to them. I can't understand why anyone would be upset with someone celebrating a religious festival myself, even if they're celebrating/recognising a festival that's not part of their religion. Frankly, who cares?!

Speaking of religious debate and Greggs; the nation's favourite pastry distributor has got themselves into hot water with this:

Jesus fed the five hundred, did he not?

A Gregg's sausage roll can't even satisfy a single pot-bellied northerner.

What is British culture?

It's wearing a baseball cap back to front, having a weapon dog on the end a lead, reading The Sun in a white van, blaming foreigners for everything and complaining about political correctness isn't it?

I hope to see more Muslims in adverts and hopefully loads of other stuff that annoys racist snowflakes.
Hope that helps.
Many thanks.
Inshallah.

People are complaining because there are lots of racists & Islamophobes in this country, their views perpetuated & granted legitimacy with it being widespread in the media too.

Tesco felt they had to make this advert? No they didn't. What makes you think they felt they had to include Muslims?

It's bullshitting about political correctness gone mad gone mad.
