Because they felt he was/still is a traitor for leaving Stoke to join West Ham, and then had the temerity to not just score a goal, but to celebrate it - fickle lot football fans.

He has been but somebody did point out there were a few other dives which won't be punished as much because either the officials dealt with the matter the dive didn't lead to a penalty/free kick.
