Although I'm not a football expert, I have noticed two things in football. The first is that many coaches try to give instructions to players while playing. When many are frustrated that the players do not pay attention to instructions while playing. The second is that in many games, even though a team remains in ten players, it still wins.
In light of these two details I have a suggestion that the teams give up a player and replace him with a person who will guide the game, he will instruct the players where to move, sometimes to whom to deliver the ball and more. The benefit is that the game will flow more and the players will play more like orchestration.

Possibly the very worst idea I have ever heard.

I reckon you should keep all 11 players on but the goalie can't use his hands.

I read 'maestro' as 'mascot'. Seemed much more fun.

Story checks out.

I'd rather have a 'maestro' directing the players than silly crap like VAR tbh. Ref - 'Oh shit, was that a hands? Better see what VAR mate thinks"

But, there are still quite a few things I'm not sure on about this maestro thingy. Will football managers become extinct then? I can't imagine the two guys working alongside each other, with one shouting from the touchline for the defenders to move forward (the offside trap) while the maestro yells at them to drop back.

Speaking of offsides, can the maestro himself be caught offside? Is he allowed to get in the way of the opposition players when they're attacking? And what happens if one of the opposing players tackles him by mistake? Aaaarrghhhhhhhhh...so many questions but it's a start I guess.
