This delightful couple run a newsagents & general store in Twickenham, and I think in this photo show the true spirit of Christmas.

To any colleagues out there...........

To fellow Lab Rats everywhere. May your LN ice cream never stick to the top of your mouth and may your own Batcave, Evil Lair, Holodeck or Dharma Initiative be the haven of discovery / escape from non-science Muggles everywhere that you want it to be.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all.

Ahh, Twickenham. Home of Rugby Union, the greatest game on earth bar none. Thanks for posting, Claret. Good piccy.

I believe this shop is on Whitton Road between Twickenham Station and the stadium... on the left side of the road as you go towards HQ. If I recall it accurately, it's next door to a cafe called the Scrummery, which is a rugby themed cafe run by a lovely lady named Karen who does a damned good breakfast and is occasionally frequented by players from the Harlequins rugby club whose stadium is nearby.

I'm pretty sure I recognise this couple from the shop, having popped in there for various bits n bobs when on my way to and from matches in the past. They really are nice people and seeing them offering a little non-business related hospitality at Christmas doesn't surprise me at all.

Rugby...... I love it. Bring on the Six Nations...!!

Er Rugby is the home of rugby.

It is, Jim. At least historically. But the Headquarters of the Rugby Football Union is in Twickenham and that pretty much makes it the home of the game in England.

Are the muddy fields between two small villages somewhere in Lincolnshire or Notts or Derbyshire (or any shire you care to mention) the home of football...?

Thanks for the pedantry, but on this occasion, no cigar.

Happy new year.

8 British and Irish Lions fans on tour. (with some of the 25'000 others who went with them, just for a laugh).

skysports-warren-gatland-lions-fans-british-and-irish_3892402.jpg

25,000 fans across Britain and Ireland for one of the biggest events in the sports calendar - Oxford United took 35,000 to Wembley for a game of conference football. Nothing sport.

Oxford is around 50 miles from Wembley. New Zealand is on the other side of the world. Only a difference of about 11'400 miles. Give or take.

When Oxford United take 25'000 fans to Australia, New Zealand or South Africa for a two month tour at a cost of many thousands of pounds you'll have a point, until then you're only posting a straw man argument.

Oxford United. One of the league's junior clubs - didn't even join the league until 1963, and have only spent a total of three seasons in the top flight - A minor, lower league club............ and you attempt to conflate their fan base with a global sport which is third in popularity only to the Olympic Games and Football (in that order). Sorry, but it just doesn't hold water.

Incidentally, I notice that their recent home defeat to Bury (the bottom club in League One) attracted less than six and a half thousand fans. Where are your 35'000 now? Fairweather fans who jumped on a Wembley bandwagon, perhaps..?

I've got more I can throw at you, but I'm holding it back in case you want to keep this going. I've got plenty of ammo. Best let it drop here, eh.?

By insulting Oxford you only prove my point. I absolutely agree with you - they are a nothing club. Thinking a sport is serious because one of its major events attracts less fans than a non-league away day for a nothing club just doesn't hold water.

Comparing our game against bury would be like me comparing the average rugby union premiership away attendance to the attendance on a lions tour. Would you like to run those numbers? Or are the lions fans just fairweather fans who jumped on the jolly-to-Oz bandwagon perhaps?

I can't wait to see what you kept in reserve but I hope it's better than thinking I'll cry because Oxford United aren't Barcelona.

Nothing of the sort but I object strenuously to offensive comments such as a "Nothing sport" which was clearly intended to be insulting and dismissive. What was the point of that..? To big yourself up..? To put yourself over as superior in some way..? It's cretins like you that get football fans a bad name.

Your sneering, snidey arrogance is not what I've come to expect from the membership of this site which is overwhelmingly objective, friendly and supportive of fans of other sports who come here in a spirit of sporting friendship. .

I could rip into you and tear your pathetic comments to shreds but I'm not going to waste any further words on this subject because I think you're too stupid to understand. I'm not going to indulge an intellectual pygmy like you on this topic any longer.

You have put yourself over as an arrogant, immature, stupid little boy with a chip on his shoulder about a sport you know nothing about. You do a disservice to all the good, decent football fans who use this site. You need to learn to live and let live with people who enjoy other sports and come here to engage in cross sport conversation.

OK, having gotten that out of my system (I admit, he did irritate me which does me no credit, and I won't respond to any further goading) I'll get back on topic.

Sorry for the distraction gents.
