On the injuries thing, likewise if anything happened to Pearson or Smith we'd be bang in trouble. We've based the entire season on that rock solid defence and nicking games off the back of it.

Before Christmas, I'd agree, but I think that's why Dave(n) the Rave(n) was brought it. Is he as good as Pearson or Smith? I dunno, but he looks a good pro and he has experience in central defence.

It's encouraging to hear positive things from the fans of other teams, and although Wrexham are top, I feel they're yet to put together a "good run" this season. Our defence has been tighter than a gnat's chuff, but we've been seriously lacking in midfield craft and firepower; will Quigley, Franks and Deverdics be the answer? If they are, I feel quietly confident.

If we must endure the playoffs, I would hope we avoid Aldershot. And Macclesfield. And Fylde. I *think* that's technically possible. A playoff final against Tranmere would be some spectacle, especially at the services on the M6, but imagine losing it. No thanks.

Really think Tranmere & Wrexham will be promoted this year which will be good for the football league as both get or would get 5000 + gates. Both a big loss to the National league though. If not them hopefully it will be Aldershot who have a similar fan base to us on the Passionate scale.

My advice would be to not accept promotion straight away and see where Adam, Chris and GTFCfish end up in the forum and make a decision from there.
#topbantz Luke, you are OBSESSED with me........

Well they'll be replaced on the way down by Chesterfield and Crewe so not much change.

No chance will one injury derail us. We’ve had consistently 5 players injured for 18 months now.

Can pick any four from Cook, Norwood, Tollitt, Jennings, Ginnelly, Kirby, Cole and it’d still be an oustanding attack at this level. Our biggest issue has come from the amount of mistakes our defence has made over the last 5 weeks.
If Cook got injured, who would replace him ? Waring ?

Cook and Norwood are superb as a pair and create chances for each other, so disrupting that partnership would seriously hinder us in my opinion.

I think this thread should be closed down out of respect for us, daggers and Chester.

This forum has no place for positivity.

Haven't seen enough of Ginnelly, but think you could add Mangan to that list. While Rhys Taylor has been a downgrade on Scott Davies and we give away too many penalties, I don't think, Fylde disaster apart, the defence have been that bad.

I'd agree with this, though would have tried to keep Waring at the club rather than loan out, as he's the closest we've got to Cook, though nothing like his level.

Tranmere should win it ... they have more strikers than Arthur scargill did back in the miners dispute. Mellon has been there before as has waddock of aldershot , whilst Keates in his 1st season as a manager has done remarkable with a smaller budget than those around us ( Macclesfield apart ). Mellon should be sacked if he fails to get Tranmere up... they have almost as many strikers as we have players. After last season watching the shite mills assembled, it has been refreshing to see a manager scouting the players he signs, rather than just signed up any clown recommend or seen on YouTube.

First post on here thought the brilliant promotion race was a good way to start!

I think Wrexham have done extremely well so far but feel they draw too many games instead of being clinical enough to win the league. For me Tranmere are the in form team and the team to beat. With Tollitt coming back, Davies back in a week or so and Wallace nearing return, a fully fit squad is key and something we didn't have the luxury of last season despite pushing Lincoln all the way. For me the main challengers will be Aldershot. They're a good side however their remaining games include some really tough matches. Who knows on Sutton whether they can go up or not. Macclesfield seem to be falling away a little bit and don't think they'll sustain it to win the title however they should get playoffs.

Think we can all agree it's going to be a great end to the season. For Tranmere, the next 3 games are big. If we can somehow get 9 points from Orient away and Bromley and Macc at home then I really think we'll be hard to overcome.

No chance that will happen

It’s just Rose doing his/her weird thing of talking about traditional league clubs getting relegated despite any evidence to the contrary. Best ignored.

If we made the playoffs I think it would be a massive achievement this season. Judging by the players we signed I think the aim was consolidating our position in the league. Anything more a bonus. I’ve only been really impressed by 2 or 3 teams I’ve seen, which shows how close the league is because I think we’re a pretty average team that will only get better. Looking forward to the business end of the season

Was it the Oystons that made you stop supporting Blackpool?

I grew up watching Preston, used to go to all the homes games with my dad then sadly he passed away and I couldn’t face going on anymore

We need to start turning draws into wins. I believe we need 7 points from our 3 games this week to keep in the race for top spot. I still think Tranmere will win the league. . The play-offs are a lottery and impossible to predict who will win them, but I expect Aldershot , Sutton, Macclesfield and ourselves to make it along with fylde and probably dover. Still wide open for any team in the top half to get in.

Fair enough. Apologies for my unintentional insensitivity. I will be facing a similar dilemma shortly, though if I have to go and watch a local tinpot bankrolled village side, I’d have to watch Billericay and that ain’t happening.

Only got to win 11 of our remaining 13 games and we’ll have a shot at the top 7. Piece of piss.
Exactly, only got Macclesfield and Wrexham to play from the top 7.

Got this league sorted.

I optimistically think wrexham can get 19 points from the league run in, leaving us on 79 points, which last year earnt 6th place, but I think may get 4th or 5th this time around.

When are the games in hand played?

6th March for most, except Boreham Wood who play this Tuesday.

It quite nice to read all this speculation about who wins auto and who wins play-offs. I'm just feeling less pained after yet another chucking away of 3 points. I remember when we won this league it was more or less a 2-horse race between us and Hereford. We won it with a game to spare and played Hereford away last match in front of 7,000+ fans. They went up the following season and iirc went up again to L1. Since that glorious time in both our histories it's been mainly pain and downhill since. I hope Macclesfield win it, but feel it will be Wrexham.

With the apocalyptic weather due for the end of this week, could be a spate of games off and more games in hand to fit in.

Looking more over our shoulders at the moment with all these draws.. Ebbsfleet away on Saturday has suddenly become a rather big game with them sat in 8th just 5 points behind us..

I think I've come to accept that Wrexham aren't going to win the title this year; I just don't think we're good enough. A team who were going to win the title would've beaten Aldershot on Saturday, and Tranmere the other week. It's increasingly looking like it's Macclesfield who are grinding out the results, and it also looks like whoever attaches the wheels to their promotion bandwagon may have done it properly this year.

Play-offs should be seen as decent progress from where we were last year, although it won't be for some of the fanbase. I think we've got the tools to beat anybody on the day, so it should at least be exciting. It's going to be Tranmere at Wembley to go up, isn't it? :ffs:
