So here we are at the business end of the season and just 7 points separate the top 9 teams of this seasons ultra competitive National league.
Most bookmakers have Sutton as slight favourites over Tranmere to win the league, followed by Aldershot, Macclesfield, Wrexham, Dover, Boreham, Bromley and Fylde. I think the bookies have got it wrong.

Who'll blink first? Its too tight to call!

Well we've already blinked, in fact I think we've gone through the last few weeks with our eyes closed.

Manager of the month's curse has been passed on, but can see us drawing on Saturday and losing at Aldershot and Tranmere, which would kill off hope of the title. In my opinion Tranmere are favourites with Wrexham and Aldershot behind.

Sutton can’t afford to go up so it won’t be them.

My opinion is the same as Semi Skimmed. Tranmere most likely winners followed by Wrexham and Aldershot. Play offs is hard to call. I think Macclesfield have blown it and Sutton...I just don't see it.

A low points tally to win it this year as well.

Think Tranmere will pull away and win it by at least 6 points, with us and Wrexham 2nd and 3rd and them undoubtedly beating us at Wembley.

Tranmere have to be favourites, given their budget dwarfs all of the other teams in the play-off positions. They will have to really mess up not to win it.

Tranmere have had it in the bag since day 1. They can only throw it away from here on in.

If Tranmere don't win the league it will be the equivalent of Ronnie Rosenthal missing that open goal. It really would be an epic screw-up.

Oh for sure, anything other than that is unthinkable.

I don't know what Wrecsam's current budget is and there were no real clues in the budget thread on here. However, during the window they have brought in Quigley, Deverdics and Franks, and are in pole position for automatic promotion.

Tranmere baiting asides, Wrexham have recruited extremely well during January and are my pick to go up.

I'd.imagine it's arpund the 750k Mark. No idea though.

We only have a squad of about 21 senior players. Quality over quantity. Leaves us vulnerable to injuries, something we've been quite lucky with this season. The newcomers have helped a bit with that. Players like Raven should give us decent cover.

Decent to be in this thread instead of the mid-table one.

Did an *unbiased* Conference predictor earlier and had us winning the league by 3 points. After the Sutton and Aldershot double header, and apart from a tricky looking Easter, we've actually got a generous (ish) looking run in whilst everyone plays each other and other trickier sides away from home. Think it will be between us, Tranmere and Aldershot in the end and two of those will go up.

I think this thread should be closed down out of respect for us, daggers and Chester.

This forum has no place for positivity.

Hope Wrexham do it, but can see Tranmere winning by some margin considering how tight it's been.

Hopefully both go up.

Now, where's the mid table thread?

To be fair, Wrexham deserve to go up. Been here 10 years, get good crowds at this level of 4000 odd, good set of fans. Hope they manage to do it with half our team

I don't think we'll win it. I think Wrexham have sorted out their scoring without sacrificing their defence, and will power to the title now. We have some massive games coming up which could sway my opinion if they go well though...

We've gone to 3 days a week training now, in a bid to keep up with all these full-time teams. However I don't know if we have enough to maintain challenging for the title. Saying that our game v Aldershot last day of the season could be MASSIVE

Aldershot are the best side I've seen this season, wouldn't suprise me if they won it. Tranmere have found form at the right time and also have every chance.

I was convinced we'd beat Lincoln to the title last year and that didn't turn out well, so on that basis...Wrexham to win it :fish:

In a contest as tight as this one, injuries could play a key role. I think all the top sides have their best players fit at the moment but there is still one third of the season to go.

Despite the relative strength of our squad, if Cook or Norwood got injured we would be buggered as none of our back up strikers are good enough. Likewise, if Tollitt does not get fit enough to play a meaningful role we will be significantly weakened.

I reckon the winner will only need 85 points, if that. There'd be some poetic justice in being the worst ever champions after being the best ever runners up, especially with Mellon on the receiving end this time.

On the injuries thing, likewise if anything happened to Pearson or Smith we'd be bang in trouble. We've based the entire season on that rock solid defence and nicking games off the back of it.

Funny to see a Tranmere fan start this thread now they’ve got the momentum.

Personally I’ve always thought they’ll win it.
Wrexham runners up. but the 2nd team to go up, not a clue

No chance will one injury derail us. We’ve had consistently 5 players injured for 18 months now.

Can pick any four from Cook, Norwood, Tollitt, Jennings, Ginnelly, Kirby, Cole and it’d still be an oustanding attack at this level. Our biggest issue has come from the amount of mistakes our defence has made over the last 5 weeks.
