I agree with that in the main, but don't know why they would take issue with fans 'disrespecting' them. I'd happily let others be complacent if it were us in that position. Reminds me of us under Parkinson where everyone said how lucky we were, or how shit we were. Never understood our fans/and fans of other teams who take it as a personal insult when people insult a club, who gives a shit in reality?

It doesn't really matter, but we have to pretend it matters or else there would be no point in posting.

Us and Shrewsbury find ourselves running away with it at the minute and I firmly believe that Wigan will reach 100 points this season, providing we add another attacker to the squad in January.

Comparing the club with where we were at this stage two years ago when we won the league, we are in a much better place. Settled in to our new state of the art training facility, bringing more young players through the academy and giving them some game time (which we haven't seen much of for a while). Tuesday we had a 16 y/o score his first goal for the club in the Checkatrade. The team spirit seems high and we are playing positive attacking football which we weren't under Caldwell. I believe the current squad would finish lower mid table in the championship and Paul Cook is the right man for the job.

For me by far our biggest game of the season so far is coming up against Blackburn, who I think can challenge the top 2 still.

At this stage in our promotion season 2015/2016-
WIGAN: 5th with 27 points from 16 games.

Currently:
BLACKBURN: 6th with 23 points from 13 games.

I think our home will be / is a fortress. We haven't been brilliant in the games against teams around us so far (losing to Shrewsbury and Peterborough), however those were away and we have only dropped 2 points at home so far this season which was a 1-1 draw with Portsmouth and that could easily have finished 5-1 to us...

I think Shrewsbury have shown consistency and expect the top 6 all to have a decent shot at promotion. I can't see anyone other than 3 of the current top 6 being promoted through automatics and playoffs.

For me:
WIGAN
BRADFORD

BLACKBURN (PLAYOFF WINNERS)

We've just lost our starting LB for 9 months with a cruciate injury from last Saturday.
First major knock off the season...

Good post. Agree with this, the only difference is i see us and Blackburn going up automatically with Bradford beating Rotherham in the play off final.
With Oldham i think if we recall Jack Byrne in Jan they will miss out on play offs, he has been awesome for them by all accounts. Hope he gets a shot with us as i think he is better than Lee Evans.

Rather keep Byrne at Oldham. He can’t play against us and he’ll help them take points off our promotion rivals. Either that or we’ll sell him.

Tbh Byrne has been found out the last few games. Bradford subdued him while bury wound him up. Doyle is more key for me and I reckon we will have competition from Wigan for his signature in january

Agreed. Grigg’s injury prone and Toney’s rubbish. Can definitely see Cook coming back for his old chum now he’s scoring goals again.

Tricky period for Shrewsbury coming up, not helped by the loss of our left back for the remainder of the season. No doubt the new incumbent at left back will be tested specifically by opponents.

28/10Peterborough away, I don't buy into the negativity of some of there fans, I believe they will give us a tough game and already their media are pushing this game beating the league leaders will kick start their season.
.
11/11 Charlton home, this game might be called off through Charlton having players crying off on international duty, so a weekend when those chasing the top 2 can close the gap.

18/11 Rotherham away, well they fancy themselves don't they, but another difficult fixture.

25/11 Bradford home, it doesn't get any easier.

So there you have it, we could struggle for points over the next month, it's certainly an opportunity for these teams to show how good they are!

I think it's more an opportunity for Shrewsbury to show how good they really are. Not trying to deflect away from the great job you're doing but you've obviously not played many of the top teams and the ones you have, have all been at home. Even the games against Bradford and us coming up are at home!

We, for example have gone and beaten Fleetwood, Bradford and Rotherham at their places. We've shown how good we CAN be. Again, not a dig so don't take it as one but I think this is the month when people either really start believing that Shrewsbury will finish in top 2 or start saying they were right.

As for our game, I don't think it'll be called off as I believe the England u20s game isn't until the Tuesday. Also, Robinson made a comment after our last game was postponed that he didn't like having to do it and hoped to have some returnees from injury in time for the next break.

Saw a stat on Twitter yesterday that said we'd picked up 13/15 points against the top half but only 10/24 against the bottom half. Beating teams around us seems easy, we just really struggle when teams sit back.

Great day for us.

We move up to 3rd without even playing and have 2 games in hand on the 3 below us and 1 on the 2 above.

On course for back-to-back promotions thanks to Karl's continued support, if only the fans would do the same.

Seriously, is that the best you can do? Oh dear.

Gonna be a massive test of our ability this week. Bradford on Tuesday away followed by Charlton at home on Saturday. Two very good teams, think we might struggle.

Don’t know about all of you but this is looking like it could be a very boring promotion thread. I don’t think the current top 6 will change from now until the end of the season and already a gap is starting to develop. The only question is who finishes where.

I said that at full time when I saw the table, the top 6 now will stay in the top 6 til May. Still reckon Shrewsbury will fall into 5th/6th and us two will go up automatically.

As much as I'm fine with finishing top 6, I can't take three years of play off failure. We need to go up this year. Unfortunately I don't see it though.

I think the top 6 will stay the same.

We are in a little blip due to certain circumstances with our squad being stretched a little due to suspension and injuries in the last 5 games or so, plus we are near the end of a run where we have 4 out of 5 games away (losing the home match to Bradford yesterday) plus the home game v Charlton was postponed, so the cushion of points has been eroded away. There can be no doubt we will also strengthen in January, and some I am sure will think the wheels have fallen off but I think we will be ok.

Scunthorpe have had a fantastic run of 6 wins on the bounce against some difficult teams, but for all that are still 2 points off 2nd and will have to try and maintain it having got where they are which will be difficult.

Having played Wigan, Scunthorpe, Blackburn, Bradford and Charlton to come, we have 2 wins a draw and a defeat and although we have Charlton to play I think we have been "toe to toe" with all those teams. The only game this season I think we deserved absolutely nothing was ridiculously against Bury.

Going on to the Bradford game, they clearly are a good side and I think what they did to us yesterday probably was what has been happening to them at home this season. Whilst it can be argued there goal was probably against the run of play and a a fortunate deflected open goal it was excellent play down their right which opened us up. Bradford were dogged defensively, like we have been this season, and I have no complaints with the result, if a team was going to win yesterday it was always going to be by fine margins, in a game where both teams possibly gave each other too much respect at times.

In summary I think any of the current top 6 can finish in the automatics, although Wigan appear to look the most likely......

Good post pal, i went on Saturday and thought we were fortunate to win. I was impressed with Whalley and how solid you guys looked.

You are exactly right saying what happened to you lot is what seems to be the pattern in our recent home games. We are having no luck at home but away we are getting the breaks, we are a strange team in many regards (23 points away and 13 at home).

I think Wigan will win the league comfortably but second is up for grabs. I personally think it may be between Blackburn & Shrewsbury from what i have seen but it is very close to call. Both Charlton & Scunthorpe were decent at Valley Parade but were very fortunate in both games to win them and you could argue we were the better team in both (certainly the Scunthorpe game).

I think we will be short of the auto's once more but clearly January will be key. I would also be surprised if someone from the pack doesn't make surge for the last playoff spot, maybe a Rotherham or Oxford but i guess time will tell.

We need 8 points from our next four to hit 50 points at the halfway stage of the season and stay on course for the magic 100. Fleetwood, Wimbledon and Oxford are our next three before Shrewsbury and Charlton within three days. Cook will play for a draw in both of those games so we need to realistically get at least seven points from those first three. Agree that a lot depends on who has the best January window. Two years ago we signed Yanic on a permanent deal which won us the league so any club who underestimates the January window and tries to save money will probably fall short.

Come end of January i think we should know who are the most likely to getthe autos, personally think the top two spots are between us, Blackburn, Charlton and Bradford. Like you say SMH the jan window will be massive. I just hope we can keep our main players ie Burn, Morsy, Powell, Jacobs etc. Think the top six as it is wont change much now though.

Surely we will have some money available after the summer window in which we got fees for Clarke and sell on fees for Nahki Wells and Wisdom. Although doesn’t mean we will spend it well...

And when we get Man Utd away in the 3rd round of the cup.
