You've got a good one there in Mike. Very raw but huge potential. He's a better version of our trialist striker therefore I wish he was still with us
We moved Mike on when Southwell signed. You now have Southwell and he will score more goals than Mike from watching them both.
Completely different attributes but Southwell is the better striker and allround player.

We beat Bishops Stortford 1-3 today, good result. Pre season going ok despite our mostly very young squad and its inexperience.

Well that wasn’t great. Lost 3-1 away at Telford. Telford to be fair were very good with their pace and power and they were right at us from the first whistle, scoring quite quickly, which seemed to stun us and it all became very messy. A well taken volley that made it 2-0 appeared to wake us up and we pulled one back just before halftime, with Fondop pulling off a great header after good work down the right from Rutherford. Second half became a bit of a non event with very few chances at either end and I have no idea how their 3rd came about, he just all of a sudden seemed to be through on goal to finish. Fondop was our best player, really good hold up play, powerful in the air and challenging and but for a great save, would have scored more, but it’s 4 in 4 for him now. Sam would have learnt a lot from this game and he’ll know that we’re short of bodies currently. He would hopefully have learnt also that Carrington has no influence in a midfield position whatsoever, he was all over the place, with Luke Young having to play 2 positions at times. Might be a blessing in disguise this result, as you learn a lot more about your team after a loss, than you do after a win. Having said this, we missed 2 massive players for us in Pearson and Deverdics and their absence was notable all game. Still need to be doing better though.

Guiseley 1-2 Gateshead
Even 1st half which finished 0-0

We played the second half with both centre backs from our academy, one did very well the other had a 1st 15 minutes to forget.
Liburd gave himself a through ball past one side of a Gateshead centre back, ran around the other side and slotted in the corner. Gateshead made several changes and put us under lots of pressure for fifteen minutes scoring 2. After that spell we dominated and created plenty but failed to score.
On to Bolton at home on Tuesday.
I do wish I'd seen Paul Clayton in his prime as he's been terrific whilst here!

We beat Coalville 1-3 today. Good result that. Goals were scored by trialist Jonathan Edwards, Dayle Southwell and Matty Kosylo.

We looked solid and it was great to see Tarpey back but we desperately need a big centre forward. Nothing sticks up front.

Won 3-2 away at Concord Rangers. With Macauley Bonne x2 and Josh Koroma scoring for ourselves.

Went 2-0 after around 15mins, Concord started very quickly and were pressing us hard for about 30mins. Then we scored a well worked goal and to be honest after that we had the majority of the game, eventually turning it around and winning. The winner came from a long throw which was poorly defended.

Concord have a very useful side, expect them to do well in the South this season. They had a player called Nana up front who caused us a few problems and scored as well. They ran out of steam by the end though, they really went for us in the first 30mins as I said.

We're away to St. Albans on Tuesday night.

1-1 at Wealdstone - a few triallists but a lot of first teamers.
Really lacking a striker, only got Rendell and McClure on the books but got Holman on trial, who isn’t a 20-a-season striker.
Think we’ll see quite a few low scoring games this season at the Rec. still worryingly short of a competitive squad and no more pre season games planned either.

Alfreton 2-2 Nottingham Forest Under 23

A very entertaining afternoon`s football at the Impact Arena

Seemed Billy went with Pretty much our first XI that may well start the season against Kidderminster Harriers and I was very impressed. We looked solid and compact and looked like we are knew our jobs. Big Tom Denton caused the Forest youngsters all sorts of problems and opened the scoring with a trademark header after 20 minutes. The Forest keeper Erlandsson who had a loan spell at Salford and Barrow last season made a total hash of collecting a cross from James Clifton to make it 2-0.

Forest had much the better of it in the second half as personnel changes took their toll as we began to lose our shape. Arribiyi firing home after a good run before Appiah finished well 3 minutes later,

Thought 2-2 was a fair result overall. Seen nothing so far to deter me from my belief we are going to have a good season.

We won 5-0 away at Nuneaton today with a fairly youthful side out... and considering they drew 2-2 with port vale it can only be a very positive result!

Our pre season has gone very well so far

We have one more against Basingstoke next Friday, but it is behind closed doors (for some strange reason).

On today, thought we looked good going forward, very impressed with Wanadio and Rendell will benefit from his pace and crossing/shooting which seemed decent. Trialist 21 did well too although should have scored in the second half. Surprisingly James Rowe (stated as the trialist wearing 14 on the teamsheet) had a good game and scored a good goal.

Defensively im a bit worried - still need to sign 2/3 players plus a backup keeper. As for where we'll be this season I have no idea and won't until after the first 4/5 games I expect.

Following on from a 2-0 win vs Birmingham U23, a 5-0 win over Evesham and a 3-0 win over Tamworth. I'm getting worried a good pre season always ends in a disaster of a season, right?
Just our Home friendlies vs Burton and Kidderminster left to get this monkey off our back and lose one.

I wasn't there yesterday but it sounded like if it wasn't for our keeper (imo the best in the Conny Sarf) then Aldershot would have won at a canter.

A good test for both sides, as for us we're clearly a lot fitter than any previous pre-season and that should hold us in good stead for the season ahead. I'll get my first look at this new side vs. Bromley next Saturday.

Went to watch us at Spennymoor yesterday, won 1-0, Luke James scoring, Spennymoor played really well, would imagine they'll be challenging around the top end of the Conf North again this season.

First time I've been to Spenny and couldn't believe the slope on their pitch, must take some getting used to if your the opposition.

Southport stuffed us 3-0 at their place. Didn't go, but sounds like the manager learned a lot about his new recruits. And who he'll need to bring in.

We're worryingly short in midfield at this stage.

Not done any pre seasons yet but making one to pay my dues to Tommy Lee in his testimonial on Wednesday and interested to see how we get on, ive not heard of any of our signings tbh and we’ve pretty much got a clean slate to go with so quite looking forward to it

We got stuffed 4-1 by Everton U23s.

I didn't make the game but sounds like we competed well in the first half and even took the lead through Frank Mulhern but as the game wore on Everton's fitness and quality (their team included a few lads with Premier League experience) became apparent.

Next up for us is Warrington Town away on Tuesday night.

We moved Mike on when Southwell signed. You now have Southwell and he will score more goals than Mike from watching them both.
Completely different attributes but Southwell is the better striker and allround player.

I would probably agree with you on that. However, Mike suited our system very well and would have offered us something different to Southwell should we want to change things up

Our game against Lancaster was a bit of a waste of time, even though they had players such as Craig Stanley, Richie Baker and Matt Blinkhorn, they were very poor.

Hindle looks like he could be our main striker this season. We're a bit short in midfield and defence, and we really should be playing better opposition at this stage.

Has Alex Ray Harvey disappeared off the face of the earth? Or is he wedged somewhere up Cox's back passage?
He played tonight second half, not listed on the team sheet strangely. I like him to be honest, excellent midfield terrier. The game finished Guiseley 3-1 Bolton. We had another new triallist playing out wide tonight, he was fantastic, roasted the Bolton full backs several times and picked a neat pass every time but one. He also won us the penalty for the third goal. I hope we signed him before he left the changing room!
Feeling strangely confident at the moment.

We've got Wigan tonight, our first proper test having wiped the floor with Sheffield FC, Nuneaton, Gainsborough and drawing at Boston with a reserve team.

Don't usually bother with PSF but popping along as it is Tommy Lee's Testimonial game which means there should be more than the usual PSF crowd of about 1000.

Warrington Town 1-4 Stockport County (Warburton, Dimaio, Mulhern, Bell)

Pretty solid performance from us against a good Warrington Town side (which included Richard Brodie!). All 5 goals on the night were superbly taken and provided an entertaining spectacle.

First game I have got to this pre-season. Like what I saw in the most part. Ash Palmer looks solid. Dimaio looks like that extra bit of quality in the centre of the park we've missed.

Up front Mulhern is a hard worker. Makes things difficult for the defenders. Should perhaps have had another goal to his name.

Nyal Bell is an interesting one. Physically he's a defenders worst nightmare. Tall, strong and very quick. He certainly has something about him and took his goal last night superbly. Just seems a little raw at the moment.

Lost 3-0 away to Northampton. Quite an unbalanced team as both centre backs weren't risked and our right back pulled out in the warm up.

Good news is that Tarpey got more minutes and looked sharp and progress is still being made on bringing in our new much needed striker.
