There were also Mansfield fans arrested for using smoke bombs (one was 14), so there were minor issues but on the whole was good natured and passed off peacefully, even if both clubs had a small group of fans who were actively trying to fight either side of the match.

Arresting a child or anyone for that matter for setting off a smoke bomb is a joke.

Most of the time they're called flares, too, which I don't think is quite right.

The young lad, apparently, threw it in the direction of the police, which probably didn't help his cause!

Yeah the police class them as flares which is ridiculous considering actual flares are classified differently.

Flares are obviously dangerous, smoke bombs in a open stand though?

Flares are dangerous? No wonder their was so much trouble at football grounds in the 70's :bg:

The fact is, whether it's a bomb or a flare, the people that throw them whether on the pitch or not are fucking idiots and should be arrested to their stupidity.

No-one finds it funny or appropriate, and it's (one of) the reason we get lumped with early KO's.

Meh I don't mind smoke bombs, they can add to the atmosphere. They certainly did on Saturday. Obviously I don't condone throwing one into the middle of a crowd as one of your fans did.

And one of yours did into our end about 2005? They're alright, Look better at the night games but they end up in the wrong idiots hands. Think about 5/6 got set off by our fans at Notts last season and one was thrown onto the pitch and probably only just missed the lino by a few yards.

I don't mind smoke bombs and flares at all but that hardly matters. What does though is that the number of asthmatic people among us is on the rise, and we can't tell them to stay away from footy grounds just because there's a chance a couple of kids will set off smoke bombs at some point during the match.

There was a small amount of fighting in the streets of the terraced houses on the way out that we were almost caught up in.

They shouldn't be throwing it though. What exactly are you expecting to happen to you if you throw a smoke bomb?

I agree with Stringy, you throw a smoke bomb, you can't argue at being arrested.
Big Day Outs always seem to attract silly little things like this happening.

I agree, don’t think setting one off is a problem though.

I never said otherwise so I’m not sure why he quoted me.

Tbh it doesn't matter what your average fan thinks. We don't make da rules.
You don't see smoke bombs and flares been used when its 300 away fans at Accrington or Exeter, just for the big days out.
I can't remember how many were thrown on the pitch at last seasons all important 0-0 draw in the League 2 Nottinghamshire derby. I think the scoreline on that front was something like 3 -1 , or 4-1 to Mansfield lol

The correct measure for how dangerous a smoke bomb incident should be rated is by the numbers of Ugg Boots that are damaged.

If relevant, a factor can be applied for the relevance of the smoke colour to the fixture where the incident occured and how many potential winning goals were prevented from the perpetrators team.
