Paul Hurst!!!
Yep that’s what I can see too, he applied for the Notts job when we were still in the Conference, can’t remember if it was the year we went up or the year before but didn’t get it.
(He was asked if he’d applied and dodged the question, so basically he did apply).

Looks increasingly likely it will be Hurst

Hurst into strongly odds on with the bookies, looking likely now. Some suggestion that Big Al’s Twitter retirement today is one of Hurst’s requirements for taking the job. :eye:

I think it’d be a bloody impressive appointment for a club in as much of a mess as ours, to be honest.

May as well get him to sort Brexit out as well if he manages to do that.

If Hurst does get the job, I can see him losing patience with Hardy. Ultimately, Hurst deserves it for his lack of loyalty throughout his career. He’s managed to piss off every club he’s been at (Ipswich is slightly different though). Wouldn’t have thought he’d drop this low but it’ll be a hefty wage and and he should make Notts County solid as a bare minimum. Any ‘star’ players will instantly be benched!

Sounds like just what’s needed both on and off the pitch. Interesting CV too, covers both League football and Non league so every eventuality. Excellent

If appointed would put an end to all the made up stuff, hearsay and gossip that people on here get over excited about when it comes to Notts’ next manager. But until then it’s just rumour

Hurst made a poor choice with Ipswich stepping up too soon, although I think he left Shrewsbury as he knew it was gonna go downhill if he stayed. He has time to pick his next job now though and he is worthy of a decent L1 job. Notts is a shitshow of a job at a level lower than he is proven at, so he should avoid at all costs in my opinion.

Trying to play all of our star players at once has partly got us into this mess, so it may be a good start.

It's actually a potentially very good job, we had over 15,000 fans in on three occasions last season, how many L2 clubs have that potential? The budget is clearly pretty big for this division and at second bottom with a wake up call yesterday no one is expecting anything more than a relegation scrap ...again, so there's not too much pressure on and Hardy has realised far quicker than the last chairman that there's no point skimping on the manager.
If he comes and Hardy isn't a nutter ( I don't think he is) Hurst could have a long and successful stay here.

Yeah it is when you put it like that. However, why would Hurst go for it when he could get a better job in L1 when it comes along? Hurst has got a history of reacting negatively at any kind of abarasiveness from his own fans, which you lot aren't exactly completely exempt from. For all the reasons you mention, it could definitely work. If I was Hurst though, I wouldn't risk my rep on what is arguably a poisoned chalice.

Didn’t want you to make a good appointment but it Hurst has managed to delete Twitter from Hardy’s phone then I’ll accept it!

I agree with you Son of Cod, the risk is all with Hurst and his reputation. In as much as picking a manager can be empirical, Hurst is a safe bet for us as long as we give him time.
Our fans are pretty good at the ground rarely turning on a manager, just Notts County Mad and Twitter where it goes mental.I
Not sure where Hurst lives but unless he moved to Ipswich we're probably a nice short commute too.

Oh I reckon if he isn't close to Notts now, he would relocate. If you get him in and give him time, you're onto a winner. Hardy should be busting a gut to get him in. If the fans don't turn on him and you have a great relationship with him then it might actually say more about our attitide than his!

Our fans very rarely turn on a manager at games. Only really Fullarton and Ince in the last decade, and we’ve had plenty of bad ones over that time. Part of our problem has been two owners with social media and on messageboards in Trew and Hardy thinking the loudest people on there reflect the views of everyone.

Even when we lost a club record 10 in a row under Sheridan, it was all aimed at the players rather than him.

It does make our record of sacking them so quickly all the more puzzling. We’ve sacked loads - Short, Allen, Curle, Moniz, Derry, Nolan just off the top of my head - without any reaction against them at games at all.

Hurst does not take criticism well - even made a remark about Shrewsbury fans last season at some point. I’ll refrain from saying anymore until he’s hired/not.

When we talk about turning on the manager, we're not talking about the whole ground by the way. We're on about the usual amount of fans getting on the teams back. In our experience, Hurst is incredibly sensitive to this. He will make a point of pulling up small sections of discontent. I'm not saying as a collective we are the greatest most supportive lot, but I reckon you'll have a similar relationship with him that we did. We haven't seen that post-Grimsby with Hurst as he did such a great job at Shrewsbury and then never really had the form to back up himself up at Ipswich.

Wow, Hurst is my first choice for the job and it looks like we’re going to get him. The last time that happened it was John Sheridan so that bodes well.

Didn’t Hurst have a mixed reception from Town fans before he left . Or am I remembering that wrong, I got the impression he was far from universally liked

Need ink on paper today please

Regardless of all the chopping and changing and turmoil behind the scenes these past 3/4 months , Notts will always be a very attractive job in L1 or L2. So no surprises to me if it’s Hurst. We wait and see.

Of course Notts will always be an attractive place to go for managers, especially those who want 4 months pay get chopped and laugh their way to the bank.

To be fair to Sheridan, that was all going well until Trew decided he wanted to sell and stopped paying people. He just wasn’t the inspiring natural leader that you need to keep spirits up in that situation.

One of many examples of us sabotaging a good position from within.

It's no secret I thought Hurst was a good manager and disappointed when he went, but couldn't really blame him, his relationship with our fans wasn't great, mainly because most of them expected us to walk the conference and win 6-0 every week, so whoever was manager was onto a loser.

Given time Hurst will do well with you guys given your potential, everywhere he has been he has a proven record (except Ipswich obviously which was too big of a jump too soon). Left us in 6th place (all be it in Nov) when he went, and look at us since. Saved Shrewsbury from relegation then nearly got them promoted a season later. Am sure he will save Notts, still plenty of time left.

Just be prepared to give him time and set up not to lose rather than to win. Of note is the players who speak highly of him and how much of a great atmosphere there was amongst the players here, read Amond's recent interview for more on that.

I would have loved Hurst at Swindon, we have taken a bit of a risk with Wellens in my eyes and I think if Notts appoint Hurst he'll have more than enough nous to get them out of the mess they are in.

Sadly we look to be the ones that Notts will overtake.

Exactly so all these people saying it’s a bad move and would be crazy to go there and Grimsby fans saying dropping down to Notts for Hurst is madness are talking tripe or just aren’t bright enough to comment.

When you stop and think it isn’t. You have a chairman who backs managers, you have (obvious) potential, you have the impressive history and if it all goes pear shaped within half a season or so or cos the chairman loses his cool on Twitter and sacks you. Then you just say it’s a poisoned chalice , no harm done to rep and walk away with a nice lump sum.

It’s really not rocket science folks

No Grimsby fans have said that though have they?
