Sorry, wading in a tad belatedly here. Lowe manages a trigger happy club, really? The only trigger happy sacking we have carried out was Chris Lucketti. And love him or not as a player, his arrival heralded 7 defeats in 8, a fair few mind boggling team selections, no goals, and our full strength side going out of the JPT or whatever it is called, to a Fleetwood side that made 11 changes. We were already in a desperate position with the chairman's daft promotion gamble hugely backfiring. Granted we were relegated with an utter whimper anyway, but at least Lowe gave us two months of putting up a fight before it all somewhat pathetically petered out
Flitcroft and Clark were shown remarkable patience by our chairman. In fact I'd say Flitcroft was our equivalent to your Davis, except our chairman sacked him at the right time, or too late, pending who you speak to. If we were trigger happy, with the way we were relegated under Lowe last season do you think he'd have been given the job permenantly?
It is far too early to judge Lowe, but he does have an incredibly experienced assistant, a director of football and an ex teammate from our 2011 promotion season as part of his backroom staff. Our chairman appears to have finally dropped his ridiculous, gung ho approach to getting us to the championship and it appears consolidation is the objective this season. I will be very surprised if he is sacked, if he is, it will come after our chairman has given him sufficient time to turn any bad run we are on around.

In fairness how many managers have you had this decade? Knill. Barker. Shirtliff, Blackwell, Flitcroft, Clark, Lucketti, Lowe. I'd say you're averaging a new manager every year on that basis (granted some lasted a lot longer than others) whereas we've only had 5 managers since 1983. So from my experiences I'm bound to call a club averaging a new manager every year trigger happy in comparison. That said, Notts definitely have the happiest trigger in this league by a mile. Something like 30 managers since 1995 or something?

Personally I think Lowe is a snakey bastard who doesn't accept responsibility and is full of himself and his own ego. To think he was offended when he wasn't asked to manage us when Davis was sacked sums up the state of the bloke. His whole move to Crewe stunk of an opportunistic ploy to carve his first steps in football management when you look back on it, because he knew about the majority of fans wanting Davis out from his loan spell with us.

What I will say in a more positive light about Lowe though is, if you're on a great run of form, I can imagine he's a dream to work for and look up to because he clearly can inspire confidence amongst others. However, he's the sort of bloke you wouldn't want to play for in a bad run of form because he never accepts responsibility. Even as a player for us when he was showing some shocking form missing so many one on ones, he was having a pop at team mates and fans in the media rather than blaming himself.

The jury's out on you lot, I think you'll be mid-table personally because you don't seem to be as big a basket case as I initially thought, and that might be enough for Lowe to keep his job for next year.

That said, I'll never understand Stewart Day thinking he could take Bury to a huge stadium and the Championship. Probably for the best to accept your fate as an L1/L2 yo-yo like the vast majority of us are!

Knill was in charge for over three years, he received a better offer and left.
Barker was in charge for roughly 16 months, received a better offer and left.
Neither were sacked. Shirtliff was a caretaker manager, never full time. Lowe is still our manager. So of the seven managers we have had in ten years, four have been sacked. Flitcroft more than comparable to Davies and he had three years. And he was only sacked when we went on a record breaking run of defeats before being knocked out of the FA Cup, 5-0 at Wimbledon.
Clark more than deserved his sacking and was given much more time than he deserved. Perhaps he is comparable to Crewe's Gudjon?
I think last season's disaster makes things seem alot more trigger happy than they actually are. For all of our chairman's many, many faults, he does seem to show managers alot of patience.
I think Crewe are not a normal team to offer fair comparisons with though.
Regarding the rest of your post and in particular, Lowe, I can certainly see what you mean. He showed similar conduct for us after that promotion in 2011 and his constant dismissal of his own responsibility last season did not impress me or the majority of our fans. It is certainly why I did not want him as manager. But on appointment my opinion, and that of many other Shaker fans was simply he is our manager, lets get behind him. He definetly is passionate about the club, and as long as he has his players showing passion and commitment, something we have shown thus far, then I think Bury fans generally will get behind him.
Regarding the chairman, most Bury fans will agree with you. The man is deluded, egotistical and about as reliable as a broken down bus. Unfortunately he is all we have and, for once, after last season, he appears to have learned a lesson and stayed well away from the limelight since relegation.

A Nolan and Johnson double sacking could be on the cards tonight.

Nolan will survive tonight but the 8-5 defeat at Lincoln at the weekend might do for him.

I think Nolan has August and perhaps FGR to sort this out minimum of 4 points

What would sacking Nolan achieve?? Genuinely perplexed....

If he sticks by Vaughn at Lincoln I'll be amazed. We will need to go mega physical there or Jacobs 8 goal prediction is accurate

Nolan is now on borrowed time but unless we sign a centre half, tackling midfielder and get Tootle fit and Jones resembling a footballer again it won't make the difference.
Can't believe how unbalanced that squad is and Nolan has to carry the can but if rather give him a couple of loan signings than sack our most successful manager in the last seven years four games in.

Genuinely shocked that Gary has been sacked tonight. The statement from the board on Saturday was basically that results needed to improve and Johnson needed to get a decent forward in. In his interview tonight after the game Johnson claimed one or two new players were due in over the next couple of days.

So what's changed? The result was an improvement, even if the performance wasn't, and he was getting players in. Surely he was doing what was requested of him?

With that being said, it is the right decision, Johnson's record as manager for us in the Football League is appalling and it's started dreadfully this season as well. This isn't a knee-jerk, it's only been 4 games, decision. This is a culmination of 96 Football League games since promotion.

Gary Johnson will forever be seen as the man who saved our club in 2015. Without him we would have dropped into obscurity and would not be where we are now. He, and his team, from 15/16 will go down in the annals as one of the best Cheltenham Town teams ever, and for that I will be forever grateful.

Now he can take a break from football, which is clear he needs, and put his feet up on at least one job at the club spectacularly done. It's a shame it's come to this now.

Thank you Gary, for everything.

As for replacements, early front-runners are Lee Carsley and Jerry Gill. Both have their positives and negatives. Will be interesting to see what the board come up with. Whoever it is, it has to be quick because we can't depend on Russell Milton for too long.

What you guys could do with is someone like Danny Wright who could really stamp his authority on your team.

It would be incredibly sad to see Nolan sacked given how the galvanised the club last season but it would be justified. The same senior pros are clearly not playing for him the defence is worse than Sunday morning standard and the two clowns being picked in midfield are allergic and incapable of putting in a challenge. It's quite an achievement to go from the play offs to this in such a short period.

Or is it? Only 8 wins since Christmas tells part of the tale. Pre season was a mixture of pub teams and Derby and Leicester he only picked 45 minute teams so we never really built up any rhythm or time to gel for the players during the whole of pre season.

Add to that Notts have paid significant fees in total for Hemings from Oxford, Kellet and Dennis from Chesterfield and Crawford from Chester and you begin to see why he's under pressure. The expectation was we would be competiting when in reality avoiding relegation looks the most likely challenge at this point in time.

All joking aside, I actually think with Wrighty as a focal point up front, we would have scored before tonight. That doesn't mean I think he's good enough for the Football League though.

From the statement last night, it said Milton for the foreseeable future, so doesn't sound like you plan to appoint anyone prior to the end of August (I'm thinking possible loan signings in).

Don't really understand why they didn't sack him at the end of last season. I mean, they've not sacked him off the back of the opening 5 games - it goes back longer than that because he has a poor record with you in the FL.

Seems a strange decision by the Cheltenham board to call Johnson into a meeting after losing three in a row, then sack him three days later following a draw. What has giving him that extra match achieved besides reducing the number of matches and length of transfer window that his replacement gets?

Lowe must go from Bury he hasn’t got a clue, signed some right dross. Stokes, Miller, Dagnall, Gold, Archer, Adams are poor, the club is set up for non league. Get rid now Day.

Surprised Cheltenham have sacked Johnson so soon into the season, not been a great start but you'd still fancy him to improve them on last season's finish. Losing his top scorer hasn't helped him and surely they have one of the smaller budgets in the league?

Hopefully Yates will be gone if we lose against Mansfield.

Bit rash. it was pretty obvious that you'd be a bit out of your depth at this level, not sure anyone else you could get would be doing any better?

Yates is a decent manager, got as good a chance as anyone of keeping you up.

He needs to go. We played some of the best football in the Conference under Askey. Now it's hoof ball and long throws. League Two's Tony Pulis and not very good at it.

He was decent at Cheltenham though, got some mates who are Robins that still speak pretty highly of him, despite it not ending too well.

Think he did well last season at Solihull too? Playing pretty football ain't easy when you first come up, as we've found out.

You can't come up to a new division with higher quality teams and keep playing amazing football.

I'd suggest that's more poor wording from the club than anything else, a new manager will be in within the week in my view.

I agree completely with your second paragraph.

Seems a strange decision by the Cheltenham board to call Johnson into a meeting after losing three in a row, then sack him three days later following a draw. What has giving him that extra match achieved besides reducing the number of matches and length of transfer window that his replacement gets?

This is the one criticism I have of the sacking, as I said in my previous post - he achieved what was requested of him in the board's statement on Saturday.

Supporting two clubs should result in a ban from this website.

Apparently it's a top half budget (so I've read today) - the sacking is not just because of the start of the season.

He was decent at Cheltenham though, got some mates who are Robins that still speak pretty highly of him, despite it not ending too well.

Think he did well last season at Solihull too? Playing pretty football ain't easy when you first come up, as we've found out.

Your Cheltenham friends are correct Chris, the 11/12 team is the best footballing team I've ever seen at Whaddon Road. Yates needs time to get his own players in and he'll get Macc doing well, especially with Neil Howarth alongside him.
