Dino Maarmia canned by Stevenage.

Odd decision. Missed the play offs by 1 point last, doing a respectable job on what can't be a massive budget. Now after a bad 7 games, he gets sacked? Feels harsh. Maybe Stevenage fans feel differently?
Seems harsh to me also. They've not been hammered in there games, they've been quite tight games. I think he deserved another month or so as a win or two and it looks very different. He's deserves atleast that after over achieving last season. Can't say il miss him as a person, he always came across as abit of a knob.

His Stevenage side was a disgrace at VP last season. Popey's opinions would be interesting on him!

Sampson will be an interesting one. Did OK with the England ladies but Stevenage at Morecambe on a January Tuesday night is a different type of game!

That's not good news... not good news at all.

Watch them pick up their first win now when we visit on Saturday. They've a good record against us as it is without the possible effects of new manager bounce.

Shame, was hoping that he would hang on til at least next Tuesday. Now we'll get the 'new manager bounce'. Have to start wasting time a bit earlier then... :fish:

They were appalling on Saturday - I'm not surprised he's been sacked. Worst team I've seen at Whaddon Road in some time and I saw Cheltenham a lot in the 14/15 season.

They actually played quite well when we went there last weekend, albeit without winning. And I gather that was despite having a load of injuries. Unless that was just a freak good performance this sacking seems like a bit of a panic decision.

From our main journo, Pete Morse.

"Annoyed I only heard this after we’d spoken to Artell this morning. I’m pretty sure it was Dino who, during one of their touchline spats, told Artell he would get sacked before he did... "

Shame, we're playing them in two weeks time. Now we'll get the new manager bounce.

I think Artell probably dodged a bullet by not having to be asked about this. You know he'll only embarrass himself, Crewe, League Two and the wider footballing world if asked for comment.

As much as I love the fact Artell has ruffled the feathers of a few teams in this division (rightly and wrongly), there was no manager more deprived of class than Dino Maamria in this league. His teams often reflected on him with their severe lack of discipline (two red cards against just us last season).

Strangely, and this has gone under the radar thanks to our fine start, Artell seems a lot more content and relaxed on the touchline these days compared to the past two seasons as well.

That would be the Graham Westley influence.

Looks like we've identified Mike Flynn as our top target to replace the Cowleys.

I don't think he's ruffled many feathers to be honest. Most of what he comes out with is quite amusing from an opposition perspective, I presumed he must often be fairly embarrasing from a Crewe perspective.

As our last manager was the biggest embarrassment you could ever dream of employing given his penchant for wanting to chastise his own fans whilst he was on long winless runs, any replacement of Davis' was always going to be a breath of fresh air.

Artell's toned it down since he rightly called out Devitt for his scumbaggery when we last played you. I can't remember him having a gripe with another manager or opposition player since. He was sent to the stands for losing it with the refs at Swindon (and even then they were truly diabolical) but that's about it.

Artell might be a loud mouth at times but he's definitely got them playing. Their record this calendar year must be very good.

Not if they’re going for Flynn

Newport Saturday were a strange one, don't look great and we should of got a point but keep digging, very physical and take the chance when it comes.

They impressed me in terms of they had the look of a side that will go up Newport. If they can play like that and win (and judging by the Crewe comments it was similar with their game) they are efficient and just don't concede.

He would probably be a good fit at Lincoln assuming they still like the physical approach.

Exactly what we said. Next to no creativity in them whatsoever but that defence is by far the best in the league, and if it hasn't conceded in the league since August 3rd, they'll always set themselves up nicely to nick a game by the odd goal. If Flynn goes though they'll nosedive down the table, he's crucial to them having a good season more than any player in that side.

It's probably why they've done well in the cups generally. Rock solid, clinical and happy to make it a battle, long ball bombardment and seemed to play the referee well (the penalty was ludicrous! he was wrestling Smith down!)

Flynn could be crucial, if he does go they'd have to get an identical manager who would play the same way as currently they nail the game to their strengths perfectly...

Cooper it is then!

Would be a very popular choice amongst Imps fans. Heard a lot of them say how they've always secretly wished he was their manager, ever since he turned them down when he was at Kettering.

Lincoln losing the Cowleys. Good, now starts their slow and steady decline back to their rightful place, the bottom half of L2. Been a good ride for the glory hunters over there, but let's see what their crowds look like once the winning stops.

Be a double bonus if they take Flynn as a replacement, although if I'm him, I'd give that position a wide berth. Maybe he could take over and carry on where the Cowley's left them, but it's a huge ask for a club of that size, especially given all the players are Cowley recruits.

I'd want to give it a proper go with Newport and see if I could take them up. He's from that area, so maybe getting him to leave what could be a promotion chaser. Unless he can work a miracle and get Lincoln into the play-offs and promoted, I only see decline for them. They are realistically at the peak of what they can achieve, how does Flynn hope to emulate that?

Stay at Newport and try and get them promoted. A bigger team than Lincoln will be along if they finish in the top 3/7 this season.

What is it when people get their jollies by wanting other’s clubs not to succeed?

Fair enough if that club is a direct, historic rival but this sounds like someone jealous of another club’s success.

It stinks.
It's a bit sad, isn't it? But I guess it's football for you. I don't mind it from the Grimsby and Mansfield fans, I'd dish it out if it was the other way round. But the Crewe fan above? Odd.

Chances are our crowds will drop to 5-7k, rather than 8-9k, and we'll be a mid-table L1 side for a good few years. Would I have taken that three years ago when the Cowleys first took over with us struggling in the bottom half of the Conference? Absolutely.

Very few clubs of our ilk get there and stay there - eventually we’ll descend to our roots. It’s why we should enjoy the good times when they come along - it’s not often.

Anyway, Luton carried on well enough when Jones left. It’s not the end of the world.

Lincoln's success whilst a large part has been down to the Cowleys has also been down to money... but unlike Salford for example or teams like Bury its been built on money earnt through cup runs and one of the most remarkable success stories in terms of enticing fans from a cup run to turn up every week.

Its admirable what they've done there to be fair from the showers that turned up to us a decade ago for a walloping... (got us back for that last season!)

Lincoln deserved all their success for the unfulfilled promise of the Keith Alexander (RIP) era of the mid 2000s. They had a rough ride in non league in the early part of this decade after suffering an unfortunate and unexpected relegation in 2011 and had to start from scratch. The Cowley brothers have transformed that club and they really are in a much better place now.

We had bandwagoners in the 90s when we went from the bottom half of League Two to the top half of the Championship in the decade. I'm sure every club has had a bandwagon in their recent histories and Lincoln were due one too. It's also more impressive given it came from on-field performance rather than a new stadium bounce like Rotherham, Chesterfield and Shrewsbury all had as well. I still think Lincoln have the ability and fortunes to stabilise themselves in the third tier for a while, but they've got to get the next appointment absolutely spot on if they wish to continue the momentum of the last few years.

And we’re absolutely useless away from home under Pressley
