He's the perfect man for this job. We needed someone who knows what it takes to be succesful in this league, and also the type of character needed to lift this club!

It is the perfect job if he wants it. Take a big salary, with no pressure, then if it screws up, sit by the phone for our chairman to ring him again. His pension pot is building nicely after his Eastleigh stint, 8 week temping with us, and now another pay day.

How long do you reckon Westley will get this time around?

On a more serious note (although I have been semi-serious with both points) - do Barnet have a DoF in place? Seems weird for Allen to make player decisions to pop off by the end of the week.

No pressure? It's probably the job with the MOST pressure in this league... This club should be in league 1

Don't even joke about things like that!

Who knows? We had someone in kind of that role, but apparently it changed to a more general manager of the entire site. That said, it wasn't that difficult a job as a lot of the players released were certainties to go.

You seem to be under the impression that he gives two hoots about whether you should be a league one club. It's a comfortable pay day if he goes there, and if he fails, like at Eastleigh, there's always a job for him to fall back into at Barnet. He made it clear when he went to Eastleigh that money is the motivator for him now.

It's like Ike people at other clubs don't understand how MA works. You offer him money - he either says yes or no. If he succeeds (or in other words, if you're at Barnet because we're the only place he has for a while), he takes the increased pay offer from another club regardless of how things are looking for the original team. He then gets sacked and takes the pay off, comes back to us for a while and the cycle starts again.

He's always been a short term manager who can and does command a big payment. Signing him won't solve Chesterfields long term issues, just like it has its never done with us.

He's the biggest money grabber there is.

If he does his job and gets us back into the Football League at the first time of asking then I wouldn't begrudge him of seeking a better deal elsewhere come the end of the season...

I think most CFC fans understand this is a short term thing, we need someone with NL experience and he fits the bill, when we're back in the FL our sights will be set a little higher than Martin Allen I'd have thought!

You're going to such a massive shock on the first game of the season when the mighty Bromley visit the Proact and do you for three points. It'll really force you to reassess the current size of your club.

But by all means, do continue...

The mighty Bromley, haha
Leyton Orient had that moment early in the season, ‘twas a good summers evening...for us.

Our current predicament doesn't affect the size of our club? The fan base is still there, albeit disillusioned (understandably), best ground in the division, more than likely the best academy in the division, and no matter how many cock ups and bad decisions our board continues to make, it won't tarnish our proud history...

I am well aware of the challenge that awaits in the conference, and believe me, it wouldn't shock me if we go and have another poor season as the last 3 years have offered us supporters little hope. I won't blame Barnet fans for being bitter towards us for taking their manager though as it's understandable

Allen will be a short term fix if nothing else. He won't take any shit and will get rid of all the cowards we have in the squad, that in itself will be a success if he came here.

We're in no position to even contemplate bouncing back next season in my eyes.

Highly unlikely that we'll bounce back at the first attempt, unless by some miracle we manage to offload atleast 75% of our contracted players....

I'm confused as to what you're saying 'don't' to?
"Best stadium in the division, best academy in the division..." + general air of superiority.

It means naff all when Woking smash 4 past you or you fail to qualify for the First Round of the FA Cup for three years. Also, judging how Allen did at Eastleigh, I wouldn't be gloating too much about stealing him from Barnet.

Not trying to tell you what to do - do what you like. But if you build-up your humility credits now, it won't be as bad for you when [insert less fashionable NL club here] school you on national TV next year.

I'm not fussed about MA leaving, yes we showed good form towards the end of the season but out was against favourable opposition. His style is hard to watch the majority of the time.

Even the season we won the conference the final 6 months were painful to watch the majority of the time. If we can get a half decent reputable manager in we'll be fine, I fully expect us to be title winners come next May with our squad.

Chesterfield isn't a more attractive club than barnet, grounds are fairly similar, our training facilities are far superior, our youth academy is far superior, our current squad is superior and I'm pretty sure our budget is superior.

Chesterfield will indeed have a bigger fan base and a better history in the football league but that counts for nothing when trying to get 3 points on a Saturday afternoon

All air of superiority must be left at the entrance gates for those coming south.
Superiority is available for life long non league teams who get to look below and gloat, at reaching our premier league!

Going by what I’ve read on here so far, you get the brotherhood malarky.

Our grounds are not similar, I've been to the hive and it's not a patch on the proact, and I'd also be fairly confident in suggesting that our academy has produced far more professional footballers than yours has so we'll leave that argument there shall we!!

Ofcourse none of the above has any bearing at all on performances on the pitch. Speak to the majority of Chesterfield fans and we'll all tell you the same, none of us are expecting an easy ride, just look at how long ex FL clubs sometimes find themselves down here for. You lot don't have to keep reminding us how difficult the conference is and how we're all gonna be so 'shocked' when a small club rock up and beat us 3-0 at home... believe me, we won't be shocked as we watched a village side dismantle us 4-1 to relegate us a few weeks back! The simple facts are that a club of our size cannot spend too long down here it's as simple as that, and that's why we need to make sure this appointment is one we get right. If we don't get back to the football league sharpish and we spend years and years rotting in this league... attendances will plummet and our town will be without a football club as we will go to walls!

Has Allen been announced?
If not then it wouldn't surprise me if he applied for the QPR job.

Did Barrow beat you in the FA Cup once? Why wasn’t it mentioned on here?
