Why is it that many fans post on here with disgust that their side has not managed to give Newport a 'right hammering' when they play us ?
I see many posts saying that it is disgusting that their side has been 'embarrassingly beaten by a side like NEWPORT COUNTY' or the fact that their team hasn't' put us to the sword' and stuffed us.

We may not be the best side in the league , may not play the best football week after week but we are what we are. We come with a game plan and for the best part of the season so far the players have stuck to it and we have got some decent results because of it against our far more 'glamorous opponents'.
Apart from 2 'hammerings' this season we have done ok and we are where we are in the league 'on merit'

FWIW I was quite impressed with Newport earlier this season. Very solid and probably lack some attacking flare, but can see them being in with a play off shout.

Fair play to you to be honest.

When we beat you 3-0 pretty easily on the opening game of the season had someone said after 9 games one would be in the top 3 and one would be in the bottom half, I don’t think many would have thought it would be us both where we are.

Why do you give a fuck anyway. If you’re happy with how your club are doing, it’s generally bollocks to everyone else.

All I care about is my club - not what anyone else thinks about it.

Good work County1, fair play.

Although some Vale fans on here have a history of being more bothered about away attendances at Vale Park than scorelines, league positions. Looks like Andy is a prime example

Not sure the Carver one will hold up in a court of law. Pretty weak. The Andy one is fair enough though. So that's 1 comment so far. Please provide about 14 more examples and then I will admit that Luke was wrong and "that many fans post on here with disgust that their side has not managed to give Newport a 'right hammering'".

The Carver one definitely holds up , the use of the word ‘bloody’ sealed it. 2 good examples tbf.

My advice, get Vanni to do the research for you, he loves looking back through old threads that don’t involve his own side.

The smiley suggests it may have been done knowingly though. We will have to put it on the maybe pile for now.

We battered Newport in fairness but certainly myself pointed out they were fairly clinical and just needed to sort the defence out as better teams would punish them. Yeovil exposed it but they’ve ground out plenty of results and so are possibly better at the back than they demonstrated at VP when only wayward finishing, the upright and good goalkeeping prevented us beating them.

They’ve done a remarkable job to be fair and I wasn’t impressed with Accrington against us and they won the league so...

Not sure I’m aware in the main that Vale fans mention regularly away attendances at Vale Park?

Imagine relying on something Carver said as evidence in a court of law.......

Newport drew with Spurs last season. Spurs smashed Real Madrid. Newport have improved since last season. You do the maths.

I'd be absolutely delighted to help out a fellow forum member! Sifting through old posts is indeed what I specialise in. It would be helpful though if you could be more specific - I've tried searching for 'Newport' + 'hammer' + 'smash' but I'm not getting anything.

Seriously though, I haven't come across such remarks on fans expecting their side to hammer Newport but I wouldn't be surprised if some fans really do believe that. I find that some fans label a handful of clubs as relegation candidates as early as July (probably influenced by the pre-season odds on betting sites) and simply disregard the league table and recent form of said clubs.

A classic case of this was when Leicester won the PL title - some fans of the big PL sides were disregarding the good season Leicester were having and expecting their side to brush them aside. "They're only Leicester after all!".

Nobody really cares about other sides - other than close rivals. This is a good thing. I much preferred it when the opponents who rolled up at Newport were a shadowy, nameless breed of villains. The fact that they seemed mostly anonymous added to their sinister nature - "The dirty number 5" was far more satisfying than actually naming the evil.

I don't really agree with the chummy 'both sides walking out together' routine either. I used to like heartily booing the pantomime villain opposition as they ran out of the tunnel at Somerton Park, before lustily cheering our brave, noble lads in black and amber.

To be fair though even with only 6 or 7 games to go I was still expecting Leicester to fuck it up.

well we aren't any strangers to getting beat off of Newport. The rest of the division is just waking up to what's been a reality for several seasons for us.
Same here, we always play shit against them for some reason, even in our non league days I can only remember ever beating them once at Blundell Park and pretty sure we’ve never beaten them away in recent times.

Horrible bunch of cheating, diving, time wasting snides. Luckily for them they had a referee on Saturday, who not for the first time from this particular referee who has been terrible on every visit to our place going back over 10 years, who let them get away with it. And btw it`s not sour grapes because that was by far our worst performance of the season and we didn`t deserve anything out of the game but I honestly thought we had left teams who reply on that sort of crap behind when we got out of the VNL. Having watched Newport on Saturday we quite obviously haven`t.

Couple of lads from my work who went to our game at Newport said the same thing, said they spent whole game trying to get our players sent off, surrounding the referee at every opportunity, despite us being that shit on the day that they really didn’t need to.

No one cares about Newport. Sometimes I even forget you're in this league.

Oooooh ... Hark at Mr 'We've got an air raid siren, we're a MASSIVE club'. We're so big I forget other teams even exist.'

(PS I quite like the air raid siren) ;)
