20M quid is pushing it a bit, you are Sheffield United, a club who notoriously sells its best youth products and better players. What gives you the impression it's going to change now?

Every club in the world is a selling club, if a player wants to go he almost certainly will go e.g. neymar. The only thing that lets us down is we don't sell for enough money, produced a fair few premier league players over the years. Walker, naughton, lowton, jagielka, maguire, calvert-lewin. All of those combined and we brought in less than 20m plus a bit in add ons. 1 of them has already gone on for 50m and another for 17m.

How much of the 50m did you get from Man City for Kyle Walker? If you do sell Brooks you're better to negotiate a good sell on fee rather than an upfront fee.

How has David Brooks proved he is worth anything close to 20m?

Agree he hasn’t even proven that he’s worth 5 million yet, hes hardly played any games.

But in his limited subs appearances he generally looks well above Championship level and occasionally drifts past players like they’re not there (which is a rare talent). Older Blades say he’s the best young player we’ve had in decades, has far more flair and talent than Kyle Walker, Kyle Naughton, Matt Loughton, Harry Maguire, Dom Calvert-Lewin.

It’s early days and could be a fluke or purple patch.
With so much money the game it’s really difficult to give a fair valuation on someone with potential, he could be worth 5 million or could be worth 50 million in a few years.

Regards previous sales of our young players it’s all down to economics.
Walker and Naughton had hardly played for us, so 8 million seemed a massive amount at the time and sell-ons were added to the deal. Maguire had outgrown league 1 and was entering the final year of his contract and he refused to sign a lucrative contract extension, so it was a no brainier to cash in than wait a year and get nothing. Calvert-Lewin was 5th choice striker in league 1 and although looked promising he never looked anything special, he’s certainly no David Brooks.

Potential is an overly used word in football I think. There are so many kids who have crazy fees linked to their names because of the word 'potential'. From a Wolves perspective we had a kid called Zele Ismail about 5/6 years ago who was going to be the next big thing, and the first 100m player (going of the infamous News of The World headline) all going off his so called potential. Nowadays he plays for Bury I think and rarely gets a game for them.

For what it's worth regarding Brooks I think he looks a very good player in the short time I have seen him on TV. But I think he'll have to continue his good form for at least another year or two before people really sit up and take notice of him. Breaking into your first team on a regular basis would be a start.

I believe the deal was 10% of any profit made by Spurs when selling Naughton and Walker.
Think the split was £5 million paid for Naughton and 3 million paid for Walker.

Spurs sold Naughton to Swansea for £5 million, so our sell-on clause meant we received ZERO.
Then Spurs sold Walker for £50 million, so we should have received £4.7 million from Spurs.

Totally agree.
Potential used to mean relatively little, it was achievement that was more important
But PL clubs are so cash rich and desperate to buy the next top quality player
That prices and salaries are inflated to crazy levels for anyone that shows a glimmer of top level talent and that’s what killing our game.

Jerome Sinclair was a top English talent at Liverpool with huge potential, many say he has similiarities to Raheem Sterling. Liverpool offer him a big pay rise which he surprisingly refuses.
Instead he joins Watford on a reported 22K a week over 4 years.
At Watford his career has stalled and he’s hardly played a single match.

Normally you’d think Sinclair will be disappointed that his career is going no where but he’s now a millionaire, so even if he never plays again he would probably say he’s been a success.

Fortunately for us Brooks seems really grounded with a great attitude desperate to play football instead of chasing the money. Also Wilder is easing him in gently and will make sure Brooks stays humble and focussed.

Great attitude, though flaky as fuck, I keep forgetting what his nationality is this week.

If David Brooks is worth £20m, wonder how much Ollie Watkins is worth...

Have to take my hat off to Wilder, improves nearly every player he signs, but to be getting the tune he is currently getting out of Clarke is incredible.
Great man management.

I don't understand what's happening here. A couple of years ago, we had the battle of the Leon's. Clarke and Best competing as to who could score the most goals.

Clarke won with THREE from 29 games. Best got 0 from 28 from spells with us and Brighton.

How does a striker go from being a laughing stock to this?

Good manager, great team spirit, team full of confidence and has a great bond with the fans, basically everything is perfect for him.

Also clearly talented, as shown at previous clubs. Issue perhaps to do with confidence.

Always been a attitude problem, he clearly had ability at Wednesday, sadly he was overweight most of the time and tried playing like a poor mans Jon Parkin. Typified where in his final game for us, relegation decider against Palace, gets us level with a great finish, then goes onto break his toe kicking the advertising hoardings...

Fittest player in our team, never stops for 90 minutes, a different class this season.

Was the same for us, could tell he had all the ability but barely ever applied himself. When he did he was unplayable.

Athletic, fully committed, hard working, great touches. Bit of a paradox really because makes goal scoring look easy but misses loads at the same time. Chases lost causes which he sometimes turns into positive outcomes. Could have had six v Hull which he fully acknowledges

He works like a horse as well, runs his knackers off for the team and chases lost causes,

Right, he's definitely a fucking imposter! The real Leon Clarke must be held in a basement somewhere. The same one where the real Rammy is being kept.

Lost cause chasing Leon Clarke? Positive mood Rammy? All feckin' fake news, I'm telling you.
