Mike Newell was coaching our first team last season - he disappeared for a while then he was seen at a game on crutches. Apparently he was pissed one night and fell down the stairs and broke his leg. He hasn't been seen this season and there is a new coach doing the warm ups etc

Mike Newell pissed? You sure? Not heard that one before :animatedf:

I see Shaun Derry is being linked to the Chesterfield vacant managerial position again. He's simply one of the best managers in L2, in fact I'd say he's definitely in the top 3, and will be a real statement of intent from Chesterfield if they manage to prise him away from us. He's that good believe me.

:hypo:
Why would he leave cambridge for a club doing worse?

Brian Horton has come from nowhere to be favourite this morning... A return on the cards maybe and has the experience and love for the club I guess.

Brian Horton was about 80 at Macclesfield wasn't he?

He's only 68 now!

Been around for years though, great player for us and our last trophy winning manager, although him as manager and Micky Adams as DOF would be interesting, plenty of experience.

Odd one that's entered the bookies fray today is Solomon Campbell at 16/1! No! Just No!

New manager should be announced tomorrow according to sky sports, 2 interviews yesterday and 2 today with a second interview today. Horton miles ahead in bookies odds now.

Lester has drifted from 1/5 to 4/7 on now, with Neil Redfearn closing in to 5/4 2nd fav. All due to Lester needing a compo payment to get him out of his Forest contract, and we're not keen. Is what I'm hearing.

Bookies odds mean sod all on lower league new managers anyway, when Hurst left Adkins and Cowley were both odds on with Adkins 1/3 at one point and Cowley 2/5.

The rest, as they say is history.

Chris Powell allegedly seen at Vale Park so couldn’t be one of the candidates, although judging my Mickys autobiography the norm is for meetings away from Vale Park... :bg:

Any truth in the aspin rumours or just hearsay because he played for yous

Very popular choice of the fans, he didn't just play for us he was a legend for us so along with Ainsworth is one a large proportion of the fans want.

We are linked to Aspin every time the vacancy comes up because of that.

I think he is a realistic candidate, but our chairman doesn't know what a good manager looks like so we could end up with anyone.

Powell looking a good bet at the moment. Interviewed apparently and would be a good appointment with MA upstairs too.

Micky Adams watched us at Yeovil today so seems he will be DOF.

Where has Shefki Kuki been these last few years ? Remember him because of his name more than anything else, although he did seem to score pretty regularly or maybe he didn't, just that his name always stood out when he did.

Do Vale fans really want Horton ? He always struck me as a manager who would do a holding job for a few months before failiure set in. Surprised he's only 68, he seemed old in the 90s.
Was Macclesfield his last job where he left them miles adrift before Paul Ince came in and worked a minor miracle ?

Did ok with us last time for five years winning our last trophy and taking the club through losing its second tier status through administration and left after a fall out with us on the cusp of the league one play offs.

I personally wouldn’t be against him returning but doesn’t seem it’s the likely outcome. Askey seemed to stop the bookies yesterday but the chairman denied it so could be Powell possibly? Guess we will know soon enough.

His last job was Macc's relegation season, I think. Went in for the last 8 games, winning 0 and losing 6 IIRC.

Yeah something like that. He came in for his second spell after Gary Simpson got sacked and couldn't keep us up. We didn't win a game while he was in charge. Personally i think he'd still do a better job at Vale than Askey though.

I don't think Horton or Askey are anyone's first choice. I'm hoping it's Powell, but can't see it happening.
