Moving to Boston is the worst thing Thomas could've done. He needs to get out of the comfort zone he's in.
I'd have thought a loan to a Paul Cox managed Barrow to help develop a young promising midfielder is literally the worst thing he could have done. A brief spell at Boston with an arm around him might be what's needed to restore the damage.

If I moved to Barrow-in-Furness that would be out of my comfort zone.

Cox doesn't manage Barrow anymore.
.........................The problem for him now is that the club is expecting success. There is no time for developing a 21 year old who currently is not better than at least four other accomplished central midfielders at the club.

I don't think his loan spell at Barrow went that well. It's difficult to find information on Barrow but Wikipedia suggests he only made five appearances. I thought it was more than that but in any case he fell out of favour particularly towards the end of the loan spell. This leaves him in a position where he has to drop to a lower Conference team, or even a division to prove himself. Jack chooses the latter at Boston.

Now the good thing about Boston is that Adam Murray is the manager there. Murray rated Thomas very highly so hopefully this time around he will get plenty of first team football. They also have Adam Chapman, who you will probably remember from Oxford and Newport and for the Conference North should really be an exceptional midfielder. Playing alongside Chapman, and being managed by Murray should help him to develop. Clearly some thought has gone into the loan move so the club wants the best for him....................

He didn't move. Stayed in Mansfield & travelled to training every day (think Barrow train in Manchester).

Well that certainly would have been out of my comfort zone at 20/21.

How come you were allowed to sign him on loan today?

Emergency loan... always get away with it with keepers, assume it's due to Leighton being out so only Hornby who has played more than a game.

Clint Hill :woot:

:gmc:

I'm hoping he will have the same impact Kevin Gray had on our team when he joined us when we were a down in the dumps team.

Could be a good signing despite his age, now we just need Grant Holt and that should be us sorted till January.

We've signed Alex Davey on a free after a trial.

Came through at Chelsea (like nearly all English youth players these days) and had loan spells at Peterborough, Scunny and Crawley. Can't see him being anything more than backup and Aaron Downes going into full-time coaching.

Alex has all the attributes to be a quality defender. He is quick and can head the ball well.

It was just that when he played for us the defence leaked goals. You could never quite point the finger at him but we were better defensively without him in the team.

We've signed 22 year old free agent centre back Matt Preston until the end of the season.

Played 30 games for Walsall last season.

Good player, I really liked him and was sad we didn't keep him. Fast, strong, physical and good in the tackle, especially 50/50's - can get caught out positionally though and his distribution is pretty poor.

From all accounts a really nice lad too.

Vital we signed another centre half after losing Conroy to injury. As someone has pointed out we now have Preston and Lancashire as centre half options.

Hope Preston plays left side if they end up in the same team. Will really annoy my OCD if it reads Lancashire Preston from the Town End.

Defender Mark Ellis has joined Orient on a 2 month loan. Leaves us with Hill and Parkes in the centre with utility useless player Gary Liddle as cover. He's overrated by some of our fans, though started the season well in fairness, but it's leaving us short at the back. Surely somebody will be coming in now, hopefully a forward - not Steven Rigg.

I think the backlash is, like you say, down to the fact it leaves a threadbare squad even more threadbare. He’s been decent this season too...

Suprised you let him join us TBH. Seems a good signing for us as he helped FGR get promoted last season.

You could've sent Tom Parkes back for a laugh if you wanted as well :shifty::shut:

I'm not the biggest fan of Mark Ellis. No great loss imo. Clint Hill and Tom Parkes are both streets ahead of him.

This. We are absolutely desperate for a bit of quality up front. I'd even let Barrow sign Bennett back on loan if it funded say Grant Holt for example...

Loaned out arguably our best fit midfielder in Clements to Barrow for three months, probably gone permanently in Jan.

Slade has no clue, Summerfield and Berrett in the middle

I think Slades reasoning is you don't need good midfielders when your defence just launch it over their heads anyway.
