He got a red card last season for throwing a litter picker off the pitch onto the side of the pitch, in the referees words I'm guessing "an aggresive manner".

But surprisingly, that was his first red card of the season and his first since the Notts County (H) match last season, 45 games ago. He's not had a straight red card in 5.5 years.

He did pick up 12 yellow cards though this season, having missed a chunk of it through injury.

Was that last one against Notts County the "deliberate" one so he wouldnt miss the playoffs or something as well?

He has been a lot better this season in terms of not getting yellows, the ones he does get tend to be stupid ones though, although there are a couple I can think of that pretty much any other player the ref wouldnt have booked, but because its him they did.

Its obvious you just arent going to get that edge out of him, especially in away games he thrives on being the villain and winding the home crowd up.

Thanks Stringy, seems a few regular Stags posters have mysteriously gone MIA and very quiet overs recent weeks. I blame the handbrake for that.

I totally agree, 12 from 12 is basically relegation form. Which is pretty poor if he took over a struggling side with no confidence and limited talented but didn’t.

Sounds crazy to sack someone so soon and no doubt Costa Del Stag will say keep the faith, played great stuff and he needs time to get his own players in but we know this is all complete chuff!

Any half decent manager with that squad , would of at the bare minimum of got 15 points to safely secure playoffs, or if it had been Evans 20-30 points and 3rd place.

To get a point a game and not reach the play offs should be more than enough to get rid.

But the blame isn’t solely on DF, awful choice from JR and above all SE is to blame for this as without his backstabbing actions none of this would of happened and JR couldn’t make such an awful choice

Agree mostly, terrible action by Evans but he still left us in a great position. The squad was good enough when managed properly.

Yes it was! I remember it now.

There have definitely been occasions this season that Danny Hylton has been booked just because its Danny Hylton.

Typical end of season game yesterday with both teams having nothing to play for, but nice send off for Curle and also Clint Hill who could’ve played his last ever game, fantastic player this season.

Can’t blame the refs for that. He is after all a massive bell end.
I thought the idea of refereeing is to referee the games as per the laws of the game, consistency for all teams and players and not be influenced by outside factors, previous history and personality?

Just like to say how much I've enjoyed being with this group of posters this season.
When we came down last season I was dreading this season but I have found it immensely enjoyable going to some of the grounds I thought I would never go to supporting Cov and being part of the group on here.
I do love reading the daily Mansfield, Vale, Crewe, Lincoln, Notts County and Grimsby verbal sparring that's been going on all season, I also find reading the Carlisle fans posts very amusing especially you know who.
So cheers to you all for making this a little more bearable for this once sad and depressed skyblue fan.

Yesterday that didn’t matter his firs time booking was Football comedy at is finest he had no need or reason to get involved. A was just being a dick. Never seen anyone booked at a drop ball situation before

Then after he was put on his ass and tbh that would of hurt and annoyed anyone, you could see the retaliation coming a mile off. So easy to wind up.

Nothing to do with his past record or history .

Glad you’ve stayed around, other staggies have gone into hiding. No doubt they will re-emerge during the play off semis lol

He hasn't been sacked yet and based on his radio interview it sounds like he is staying.

I cannot see how any fan for one second can defend him and blame Evans, the players or strikers squandering chances for this. Our tactics have been completely appalling and none of our wins have been convincing. 12 points from 12 games is completely unacceptable with this squad and he should be sacked immediately. The team since he has taken over has been disorganised, unbalanced and soft at the back. It's not a recipe for success and if we keep him knowing this we deserve to miss out for another season.

Our form has been horrendous. If we were in great form there may been a better crowd, but really no supporter was expecting us to make it.
Bit of a blame game from him in his post match interview.

He's built himself up and heaped pressure on himself going into next season. He promised the fittest side, most hardworking side, best passing side etc all rolled into one!

Seemed a bizarre transfer at the time.

Hmmm

So Mansfield didn't walk the league and did not even make the play offs.

But instead it was little Accrington Stanley who won L2.

What happened Mansfield fans? Why were you not promoted by February?

I wanted Mansfield to go up so they would have another open-top bus parade. Their last one was brilliant.

Is this what Cambridge fans have touched on a few times about a budget cut this summer?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44075122

Not a U's fan obviously but my father in law is a season ticket holder. Seems to be some very dodgy stuff going on behind the scenes from what he is saying. Up until very recently the Board and people involved in the club have been saying how well things have been going, stating they will break even and even make a profit, now the "new" owner is coming in and making statements like that. Seems like someone somewhere has been hiding things or at least obfuscating the truth.

From what he is saying they have been relying on the "one off events" (Wembley appearances/Man Utd games) and as they havent had one of those for a little while things are creaking a little financially. Especially as it seems that the Man Utd money has been squandered a little. I have always been a little sceptical of Jez George, who was the CEO. Talked a good game but always got a bit of an off vibe from him.

Not a Cambridge fan so if any Cambridge want to set the record straight on anything then go ahead. Only loosely aware of the situation from the in laws, who can be a bit confused on details these days!

To be fair, it was the bookies who had Mansfield at unprecedented low odds (odds on) before the season began and it seemed utterly mental even then.

Agreed, we were above Luton purely down to Evans.

Most Mansfield fans thought top three was realistic, and before Evans left we were competing for that.

Is this what Cambridge fans have touched on a few times about a budget cut this summer?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44075122

As the report says, we lost nearly £700,000 in the year ending June 2017. We then sold Luke Berry and Will Norris the following summer, in the case of Berry, clearly because we needed the cash.

Only a few months before the year end, our (egomaniac control freak) Chief Exec reported to shareholders:

!!!!!......Jez George is optimistic Cambridge United will be in a profitable position this season.

Chief executive George told shareholders at United’s general meeting that the club was in a healthy financial situation for 2016/17 with a surplus budgeted for.

He said United expected to make a profit of £1million from the club's business operation, having already seen the income generated by sponsorship and hospitality go up by 70 per cent.

George said: “That reflects the work that has been done over the last 12 months. We now have 15 companies that invest £10,000 or more in the club per year.”

And finance director Steve Chamberlain said United were one of just 15 clubs in the EFL and Premier League operating without the need for a financial injection each year.

He said: “For a football club of this size in this division to be able to operate without the need to go backwards and forwards to directors is incrdedible.

“The key over the next few years is to grow these revenue lines without needing to add to the cost base.

“We’ve gone through the transition from Conference to League Two and the good thing is there’s not a big leap between what we need to be a League Two club and a League One club.”

There are also plans for other long-term revenue streams including the launch of a summer school for Chinese youngsters and the potential licensing of Active Science – a science scheme run in local schools in conjunction with Cambridge pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca – with talks ongoing with the Premier League and other clubs....."

A lot more had been going on in the background over the year, much of which will probably never see the light of day.

The ructions will continue but long standing fan, Paul Barry, now has 51% of the club.
