Great opportunity for Jones to prove himself at a bigger club in a higher league after doing so well at Luton, he'll be sacked by next christmas like but he'll be a lot richer.
Similar to Paul Hurst last season with us/Ipswich. Hope this one turns out better for all parties....

Honestly I’m devastated at this. He signed George Thorne who obviously had lots of other offers to go elsewhere, a day before and said how much he’s looking forward to working with him. He’s been vehement in his response to those clubs who won’t offer the same project as us. This month was absolutely pivotal for us on so many levels; this is the last thing we need.

In terms of compensation, he’s 1 year into a new and improved 4 year deal. I wouldn’t accept a penny less than £2m.

£1m already agreed if reports are to be believed.

Where has that come from? Honestly I’ve no idea how that compares to other managers...?

I also love the fact the club are actually talking in the media about our manager.

Luton Town confirm that Jonesy has been given permission to talk to Stoke City.

We got £500k from Leeds for Heckingbottom and we were gonna sack him anyway.

Its pretty annoying as a significant proportion of Stoke fans dont seem particularly enthused at the prospect of him going there, instead calling for "experienced heads". By that I think they mean the same old failures from the manager circuit which i cant get my head around as thats pretty much got them in their position. Some of the names some of them are touting are head scratchers from an outsiders perspective.

Can see him not hitting the ground immediately running and them turning on him/their board for the decision which will be extremely annoying for us.

Seems exactly the sort of strong character with a clear vision that they need but they dont seem to see that.

I see that he will become their 4th manager in year. Jonesy seriously?

As a replacement I genuinely have no ideas. Any suggestions? He was the first manager since Newell that actually improved the players in the squad rather than buying, releasing and turning over 50 players a year.

They're idiots whose brains have been mashed by a decade or so of Premier League football. I'm not even a Luton supporter and some of the comments made by them I've found a little grating. They need to take a long hard look at some of the much bigger clubs that have fallen into the EFL in the past couple of decades and brace themselves for a not so Sky Sports future.

Just get a caretaker manager in until the end of the season. When Jones gets the boot in May, you can just slot him straight back in. Then everyone's happy, right?

Michael "Micky Mouse" Collins is available, or Paul Jewell?

Awford is the academy manager, if Jones takes Gomez with him, which I would think would be the case, then could see him being the one to step up to caretaker yes.

EDIT: Actually thinking about it I think he left last season as some spanish guy is in the charge of the academy now I think.

Indigo Idiakez is working alongside Awford to my knowledge. He’s a bit of a better footballer than “some Spanish guy!”

Nice bloke Awford, but questionable judgement. Basically told Ricky Holmes he wasn't good enough for League Two.

Exactly this.

Swansea fans have the same attitude.

Always loved him for that. The following 18 months he was insanely good for us, one of the best spells of any player i have witnessed at the club!

Looking forward Luton is a very attractive destination given league position, squad strength and a very supportive and stable board. Should have no shortage of applicants but Jones is so tough to replace because he had both the tactical nous and man management to improve everyone in the squad.

The last two appointments by the Luton board have been absolute belters and perfect for what the club needed at the time. Before that they made a series of poor to disasterous picks so we have to hope they learnt what they are doing rather than just getting lucky with the last couple.

Could see Luton maybe going for a Darell Clarke type maybe. Young, similar type of journey as Jones.

Whoever Luton appoint needs to be of the same football philosophy as Jones. Very hard to change a squad that has played the same way for a few years.

Similar to us. We had a new board back in 2013 who took a few stabs at it before getting it right. Then they went for Cook, followed by Jackett.

Luton need to avoid the trap of just going for a boss who has had success at some point. I reckon that style of play should be the main factor so that the passing game isn't disrupted too much.

Edit - I see you beat me to it, Nelson!

I have no insight in to what he's been like behind the scenes but I wonder if current first team coach Joaquin Gomez could be the right candidate. Obviously fits the desire to keep the same style of football given that it's been him implementing that on a daily basis already. Clearly it would be a huge step up into the manager's chair but the board who have seen him working for 3 years will have a better idea of whether he might be capable of that.

I'd much rather another bright young thing than an older bigger name who might be past their best.

Be prepared to be very disappointed then. Are you saying Jones is on 10k a week? Average player wage in league one is say 2-3k a week. Your manager who is fairly newish in the game is on 10k. Fair play if he is. He will still double his wage though
