Been a pretty slow start to our transfers but trying to get rid of high earners is a must so I understand the reasons why. Still very happy with Dylan McGeouch (Hibs) and Jon McLaughlin (Hearts).

So far it's those two plus:

Tom Flanagan (Burton)
Alim Ozturk
Reece James (Wigan)
Chris Maguire (Bury)

and a couple for the U23s:

Jordan Hunter (Liverpool)
Jack Bainbridge (Swansea)

and possibly Liam Millar (Liverpool)

We have apparently had a bid accepted for Reading DM George Evans and have reported to have just bid 7 figures for Mohamed Eisa. Also strong rumours about Charlie Wyke.

I expect a very slow start from us but hopefully we can get a team together that is good for this league (Please).

Double signing for City today, both season long loans.

George Miller from Boro
Jack Payne from Huddersfield

Both seem like good additions.

Payne was really impressive for us. A monster provider of assists if you have the players around him. Sadly we really didn't offer anything else and teams could really focus on him, but a great signing for any team at this level.

You've made a second bid for Wyke, seems a certainty that he's coming to you. Just hopeit hurries up so he can be replaced as soon as possible.

Gills fans - do you want Cody McDonald back? Word is he's surplus to requirements due to the surplus weight he piled on over the summer.

He's always had a habit of coming back after the break looking a bit rotund. He'll always be a Gills favourite but sadly his best days are gone.

Any good?

Yeah, plenty of potential - but does go missing in games. Although, our whole squad went missing from January onwards last season.

When we first signed him, he started very well. Scored 7 in 16 league appearances, but hit the woodwork 3/4 times, also. That following pre-season, fans were placing £3m-£4m price tags on him, which were justifiable in today’s market.

Last season, he started with an injury in pre-season, and started slowly until scoring an hat trick against Rovvers ont SKY. He finished with 16 goals in 43 appearances, but should have had a lot more had the team turned up in 2018.

Very good hold-up play and is a decent box-finisher, but lacks pace.

Parky doing us a favour trying to derail Wyke to Sunderland and bumping the price up.

Cheers. Sounds good.

Hopefully Jack Payne will be that creative player for Charlie

Jack Payne could be brilliant when he had space and absolutely play the opposition out of a game. You will need the side built around him in the 10 role as he does wander all over. If he is closely marked he can disappear in a game but does have the capacity to do that one brilliant thing even so.

He was lost with us unless playing the 10 role but we did have some absolutely turdlike players about him. He definitely isn't a wide midfielder and can be a bit lightweight so don't expect much defensively. I preferred James Henry in the 10 role in comparison as overall the team was less exposed whilst being as effective in a different way.

For the negatives I've mentioned, he is still a very good player.

If Sunderland land Wyke and Eisa then goals certainly won't be a problem for them. I agree that they may take a while to gel but it's starting to look like a formidable squad at this level.

It looks like we may be turning our attention from signing Eisa now, after Sunderland's interest. I can still see us bidding a sizeable amount for a different striker as it's pretty clear that we want to sell Chaplin. He's got a year left on his contract and Jackett can't seem to work him into our system.

Sunderland offer Bradford City improved £600,000 deal for Charlie Wyke. Still think if I were in Bradford's shoes I'd still want double that for a player who hasn't struggled for goals in the last 3 seasons and just coming into this peak.

This. Anything less than £1.2m will be a joke, it’s alright saying the McNulty deal shouldn’t effect other players values but Wyke is miles better (we had both McNulty and Wyke here season before last), it’ll be our way though to under sell whilst all around, other strikers go for inflated amounts. That being said, for his talents, seven figures should be an absolute minimum, £600k a long, long way off.

This is true.

I don't think it's a surprise that Cody nearly always took a little while to get going in a season - generally his best spells were more towards the end of the calendar year.

I echo sentiments above. Went to his debut game vs Gillingham and he scored twice. Anything less than £1m would be disappointing from any City fan's perspective.

Which he might have got away with if he hadn't been injured for a lot of last season and had more than 5 goals to his name here. He hasn't featured in pre-season at all, so expecting him to turn up at Ebbsfleet any day now.

The Evening Post has confirmed we're not in for Wyke, quite relieved about that as I think he would struggle in the league above. We play one up top, so we need mobility.

Considering recent history I'd usually be reticent for us to splash some cash, but Eisa sounds like he could be the missing link that helps us give a real shot at going up.. so I'm hoping the London boy prefers the South over the North

Wyke’s a finisher so he’d do alright in the Champ. He gets himself in decent positions when the service is right and he has the quality and composure in the box that a lot of lower league strikers lack.

Mobility is worth fck all if you can’t finish, look at someone like Hiwula.

We've been linked with Sean Scannell from Huddersfield, yes please.

If we get him that will take our signings to 10, with still one or two strikers to bring in. Surely only Posh have that beat?

Don't really agree with that, obviously you want your strikers to finish but our system relies on a high press and pace on the break, if someone can't shift and keep it up for the 90 minutes then they're no good to us.

You look at lone front men in the top half of the Championship and they're all mobile, one of the main differences as you step up the leagues is athleticism.

That's why you have players like Joe Garner who takes the piss in League One but his goal tally more than halves in the league above because of quicker and more dominant defenders.

Sean Scannell would be a top signing at this level.

Have too agree with this, I thought Wyke was poor when he played as a lone man and said so on C and B many times, far better with another up there with him, he can be a bit lazy at times as well not ideal for high press.

I was more disgagreeing that you said he’s not good enough for the Champ, I think he could make the step up with the right system and service, hence what I wrote.

From what i've seen of him (all be it little) and from what i've seen of some other prolific strikers at this level who have flopped in the Championship I think he might lack the necessary ingredients, especially as very few teams play with two up front.

Impossible to say until he gets the chance though but I don't think i've seen anyone above Bolton linked with him.

My main point though is I just don't think he's suited to the way we play.
