There seems to be a bit of a no holds barred approach to attacking Wigan's followings. I thought that following was fair, particularly if there were travel issues due to the weather.

And Blackburn may lead the pack this season due to the number of new grounds, but I think our average was better than theirs in at least one of our recent Championship seasons.
Blackburn averaged more both seasons pal.

Well there were three seasons in our last stint there, but I'd genuinely be interested to see the figures. I'd say for us it went something like 14/15 1,300 15/16 1,200 16/17 900 ish.

If Blackburn's was more, in the first two seasons I bet it wasn't a great deal?

Your first season back would have had the same "new ground effect" on figures as what we've had this season though surely?

Apologies, you did better them in the first season 1198 v 1107

15/16 was 995 v 1106
16/17 was 767 v 979

To an extent, yes. We'd played a lot of the teams 8/9 seasons before when we were last in the Chanpionship. But don't think you've played many of the teams in League 1, and where you have (like at us and Wigan), you haven't had a big following.

You also have to remember you're coming down here and laying teams to the slaughter. When we go up to the Champ, some games we're lucky to be in the opposition's half.

I wouldn't argue against that, that's what happens when both clubs charge £25 for League One football. But ours was less shit :bdick:
I guess I must be missing something but how was yours less shit if you only took 400 more in a game that wasn't on tv, in much better weather conditions and with you being a much bigger club than them?
Not fishing for an argument by the way just saying it as I see it.

The game at the DW was, at the time, far less important. In October we were shit. I've no doubt that we'd have taken 4000+ if we played them away rather than at home yesterday. No doubt some will say that's just fickle fans like.

No chance you'd have taken 4k to a sky game, 40% of your home gates this season would be impressive then.

Wigan's attendance yesterday was imo decent and pretty much what I would of expected.
Our away followings are definitely inflated due to new league new ground and riding high effect. We've also been blessed with some very local aways.
Fail to gain promotion and our average will fall quite steeply, but in fairness we've taken some good followings to the further reaches and especially on midweek games.

I thought it was quite a disappointing following tbh, regardless of whether it was on TV or not.

They’ve been the best team in the league this season (taking into consideration the amount of games in hand), it was a top of table/title deciding game (sorry Shrews) and pretty much round the corner.

It was only 100 more than we took and we’d only won 1 game away all season.

Wigan should have been taking 3k to that IMO.

when have you known Wigan to take that figure away for a league game, they aren't well supported.

For the record, I thought it was an awful following for a game of such importance. Took 3k for a Monday night game when we sent them down. Should have been at least that IMO. Thought the atmosphere in the away end was poor as well. Only started making any noise when we scored.

We’ve taken at least 3k to an away game once every season for as long as I can remember off the top of my head. Since relegation from the Prem we’ve had 3k+ at Bolton in 13/14 and 14/15. Blackpool 15/16 (would have taken double that had the allocation allowed it) and United last season. This season it’ll be Doncaster on the last day. Gone are the days where we took 5k to the likes of Leeds when we were on our way to the Premier League, but also gone are the days where tickets in the Championship were £20 an adult.

You didnt have a 3k away following in the league last season, you've got to admit it's not a regular occurrence, it's not a dig you have fair support for the size of your club.

It’s definitely not a regular occurrence. But you insinuated that we’ve never taken over 3k anywhere so I was just correcting you.

Sorry it wasn't meant as fact, more a generalisation as there's always the exception to the rule, an anomaly for every club each season.

FAO Bury fans: We’ve sold 1700 of the 2200 allocation for Saturday, and likely sell all by Friday 3pm. However, Bury have today announced it’s also POTD.

My question is, where will they sit all the POTD’ers? How many does the Manchester Rd Stand hold?

Last thing we need is a repeat of the fiasco a few years ago where hundreds of us were locked out.

When Rovers and Wigan were in the premiership, Wigan only ever brought 3k once, the game they actually relegated us at Ewood. On a couple of occasions they only brought around 1.5k.

Not saying Rovers away support is fantastic, it hasn't been for years because of the decline of the club, but in the Premiership we sold out the whole 5k at Wigan every time, apart from twice, once when Paul Ince was in charge and the club were in a mini mess, and the other time when Steve Kean was in charge, when the club was in a real mess.

The Borough of Blackburn with Darwen only has a population of 147,000 - so our average of 2200 away this season is around 1.4% of the population of the whole borough, not just Blackburn. When you put it like that, look at leeds 715,000 population, and when they take 5000 away from home they think it's unbelievable, but yet that's only 0.7% of their population.

We sold both ends and had 3306, don't know if that helps, mate

You average 1,900 not 2,200
