Fairly poor start to the season for us, though not helped having up to 7 first team players injured (Clarke, Dummigan, Taylor, Fane, Byrne, Baxter & Surridge). A few of those should be back this weekend - whether that be starting or off the bench - so a small cause for optimism.

Callum Lang should make his debut too.

With the greatest respect to Macc, we should be looking to win this. That's never the case with us over the years though.

The team I would go for (though I don't think he'll waiver from 442):

Iversen

Graham - Clarke - Edmundson

Hunt - Missilou - Gardner - Branger

Baxter

Surridge - Lang
Latics 2-1 Macc

Disregarding Lang as I havent seen him play, I can't see a better team than that. It's got width, muscle, attacking threat and it should be good to watch.

Only minor criticism of it is I would rather give Haymer a game than Graham but it's no biggy.

Purely for confidence we have to win this. I don't want to be playing catch up at this early stage of the season and if doubt sets in in can do a world of damage.

Macc should be a different kind of test but if we play our football we should win

I agree we'll still be 4-4-2, but if Baxter is available, it opens up the avenue of a diamond with Jose Baxter at the head of it.

He could of course play as one of the two strikers, but he never stays at the top of the pitch, and would result in more of a 4-4-1-1, which would be disappointing in a home game we have to be looking to win.

Playing catch up? Hate to say it but so far you've been rolled over by MK Dons at home and got out of jail with a penalty at FGR, who should've put you to bed far earlier. This league isn't easy and you'll do well to finish top half.

As mentioned above, 7 of our starting 11 are out injured. Any team would struggle with those kinds of injuries. We have to hope that when they're all fit we'll have enough class to have a good season.

Baxter still not fit enough to start, but 3 return after injury, including Peter Clarke's first appearance of the season and a debut for Andy Taylor!

New loan signing Callum Lang has to make do with a place on the bench.

Sounds like we're very much 2nd best again, though able to still make a few chances. Not taking them few chances is going to be the story of our season I feel.

Oldham side will only get stronger when they bring the likes of Baxter off the bench too!!

Nowhere near good enough for this league. The only consolation is that Askey will be sacked by shrewsbury by Christmas and he'll come back ready for the national league again.

Come out all 3 games with a similar feeling. Ultimately been 2nd best over the course of each game but have had 20-30ish minute spells in the 2nd half where we've been better but not scored enough goals to make up for the mistakes made and end up feeling we could (should for Swindon) have got something.

Most of the players signed by the chairman/agent/manager aren't good enough for this level and we're going to get to the end of season wondering what mightve been if Askey hadn't been forced out.

Has anyone got any proof that Peter Vincenti actually exists? He and a couple of others should be much closer to the starting 11. Seems like there's quite a big difference between the fans' first choice team and Yates's.

The fact that Kobe Arthur couldn't get near the team last season and he's started every game. Plus our poty is being sidelined for Grimes!!!

Vincenti supposedly not match fit yet. Lloyd got injured warming up last week, now has foot in a supportive boot. Hodgkiss injured isn't helping. Durrell obviously out for a while.

Some injury problems as all these would hopefully start, but no explanation for absence of Evans and Lowe

For me that performance wasn't all that different to the mk game. We looked solid enough if not creative. At this level though I think that will bring results. Continue as we are and throw Baxter in the mix and I'm quietly confident
