Christ, 150 replies on a thread about Sunderland, 140 of them about St Mirren not being a pub team. Well done St Juste.

Anyway.... Sunderland seem to be clearing out the high-wage players, Fabio Borini and Jermain Lens moved on permanently.

So why are you trying to claim St Mirren are equivalent to L2 then as comparison is equally as futile and pointless.

You aren't grasping that using only 1 measure to compare is fundamentally flawed especially when it isn't even involving the product on the pitch (ie. the players). Hence why the FM database (and still iffy but probably the most comprehensive look currently) is better than your measure as it uses multiple data points and will be moderated by input from many people.

And I'm pretty certain that the Scottish Championship is of a higher standard than the Indian Super League.

Only to state that Jack Ross moving to a team like Sunderland isn't that much of a surprise or leap, he was doing extremely well with a league two equivalent club.

This FM database stuff again.....surely even you realise it's a bit of a rubbish comparison? The data points are from fans of the countries in question, and of course it places more attention on nations that buy the game than others. Scotland would do very well compared to others in the FM database, doesn't mean it's correct or the best measure.

I'm not so sure it would be, you would have to expect even if it is Indian football, due to its huge attendances, will soon surpass it.

No. That is why I used average figures rather than figures for one club. You do know how averages work, don't you?

They also wouldn't look out of place in the National League. Don't know why you can't grasp this.

No matter how many times you say some tinpot team is "comfortably L2 standard" it doesn't make it true and it doesn't convince anyone and honestly you make enough factual errors that I can just keep going.

You keep going but without saying anything. English football fans are incredibly ignorant towards Scottish football, why don't you tell us all where we should be placed? Followed up by the amount of times you actually seen a Scottish team play?

"Probably" :lol:

"Probably" the l2 sides played enough NL teams in pre season. Sounds like you got dunked on.

Well, yes, this was a perfect example of you thinking you had a great point but it completely fell apart at the slightest inspection.

The EFL teams weren't invited to participate in this cup, because they already have an equivalent cup. The most simple and obvious explanation - and you completely missed it!

Time for you to slither away from that particular one I think.

So, what sort of manager is Jack Ross?

See my first post on the thread.

I think he'll do well here. We're now debt free and he'll have a big budget to work with. He must think he's in Dreamland getting a job at what is to all intents and purposes a Premier League club with new and ambitious owners. No offence to Scotland but Celtic aside Sunderland dwarf all the other clubs up there.

Even though Rangers are a colossal failure, even at their darkest they weren't dwarfed by Sunderland.

I place the Scottish second tier closer to NL than L2. I don't know or care about St Mirren within it. Maybe St Mirren could survive in L2, as NL clubs could. This proves nothing to aid your argument. This stance has been explained many times in the plainest English and only you seem to have missed it. I base it on the attendance metrics you have indicated a preference for, even though this disadvantages England where there are more alternate sources of income that allow clubs to offer better contracts and attract better players. As you have offered not a single compelling reason to consider any other metric, I don't feel the need to.

Well, yes, this was a perfect example of you thinking you had a great point but it completely fell apart at the slightest inspection.

It's not a perfect example of me thinking anything, because I didn't say it. Are you confused again?

The only reason this is more obvious than L2 teams not wanting to be in a tournament because they're too good is that you want it to be.

The FM database is still better than your measure. That database will be moderated and by having all those different people providing large amounts of data it will provide some balance. At least the database involves data on players, as 1 of a number of data points to compare leagues, something using crowds doesn't do.

I propose a new measure as it doesn't need to have anything to do with players:

Leagues and clubs should be compared using a weighted algorithm based on car parking spaces at their ground + no. of club statues around the ground and the amount of Bovril sold per game.

A couple of corrections:

St Mirren won a NL equivalent competition so are top end NL in this last season just like Tranmere (who had a bigger crowd average).

Football League clubs weren't invited to play in the Irn Bru Cup as they wouldn't have been interested in playing in a NL and lower competition. The SPFL clearly understood this and pitched it at an appropriate level. Hence why a couple of NL part time clubs are interested.

Yourself and the other guy keep repeating yourself, it must hurt that Ross was given the role and not some NL manager.

But anyway, if you're unwilling to concede on this very basic point you got wrong there really is no hope.

NL teams were invited, as opposed to L2, because L2 already has an equivalent cup. This is obvious. If your statement was correct, Irish and Welsh clubs would be as good just because they were invited (even though Scottish Championship continue to dominate the cup).

If you're unwilling to concede on that, and think a game database (that massively overrates Scottish and English football relative to the rest to the world) is the most valid measure of comparing leagues then all hope must be abandoned here.

The arrogance and ignorance of English football fans never ceases to astound me, although it's interesting it isn't just limited to Premiership fans.

Honestly mate, stop.

You’ve filled pages of this thread arguing with English fans that Scottish football isn’t NL standard but actually L2 standard.

Either way, we’re all agreed that Scottish Football is rubbish so this has nothing to do with English arrogance.

Agreed.

I can't be arsed any more dealing with his delusion. I still like my alternative method of comparison though as it means Oxford have a chance of going up the rankings.

Except of course it does, what nations of 5 million people have a domestic game as strong as Scotland?

If you're expecting us to compete with England, you must also be expecting Canada to have better armed forces than the United States. Complete madness.

I don’t know what your obsession with comparisons is.

Something is either rubbish or it isn’t, Scottish football is.

Anyway, you can have the last word as this is extremely dull now.

But that's nonsense, the quality of something can only be relative.

Is a Breitling rubbish because it's not a Rolex?

Is Silver rubbish because it's not Gold?

Your statements are completely illogical and if that is indeed your last post, it came far too late.

Important to add that we have all agreed based on evidence*.

Quality is relative, Juste, you're right. We are used to the Rolex standard of L1 and L2. Deal with it.

There's only the top six in the EPL and Celtic bigger in Britain than Sunderland in terms of potential.

You can't expect St Juste to find a decent quality girlfriend considering the population difference between Scotland and England.

But if you consider the population differentials past and present performance, per capita Scottish girlfriends do better than girlfriends from any other country in the world.

Nothing at all deluded about this statement. You're probably better than the Turkish league, right?

Do fans really believe this nonsense about their own club?
