Oh well, our run had to end sometime, may as well be to a side far higher up the table to is with massively different season expectations who also happen to be in just as much form as us.

The fact we only lost 1-0 with no CBs and for 45 mins only two recognised defenders on the pitch has to be a small moral victory for us.

Bring on Palace.

So a fair result as Mansfield dictated the play generally and had the better chances by far, we only have ourselves to blame that the last couple of minutes were nervy because we just didn't take the 3/4 chances that you would expect to take atleast one, Walker and Cj were good but they need to be more clinical.

Grimsby didn't actually sustain any sort of pressure untill the last five minutes, and that was not exactly a very good effort either. It's a respectable scoreline for them due to the line-up but it's slightly flattering for Grimsby too.

It’s not a bad result given the circumstances. Sounds like an awful ref for both sides and happy to escape a game with no defenders at 1-0

I’m still serious about the playoffs. Everyone else still has to play Mansfield and we only lost 1-0, with a team with no CBs in it. Ref was also very weak by all accounts!

Will add that the referee could have given that penalty for Grimsby, I mean for me it's not one but you have seen them given. I think he didn't give it because the player went down like Dele Alli.

No complaints with result but Mansfield’s play acting was a bit pathetic, and we should have had a pen at the end but it would’ve been daylight robbery had we nicked a point. Mansfield easily the best team I’ve seen us play this season and they will easily get automatics.

True but they do normally get given.

It was only one of us and he always over reacts to us winning a few games! And GG always gives him bites.

I mean I said we had a chance of the play offs, which being 6 points off them after a superb run of form is. Just a few people got a bit rattled at that shock revelation.

Nah pretty 50/50 I would say, depends on every referee really I think you have a leg to stand on but so would the other side if it was given.

16 goals conceded in 24 games is ridiculous

Can somebody sort out the 'YEAR OF THE STAG' profile picture? I'll post it in the non-league section for whichever Wrexham fan that did it originally

6 points is a massive margin though, it doesn't look it but it is especially with 5 or 6 other teams between us and 7th. Plus this month we play the top 3 sides, played one today.

Play offs was and still is a long way away despite recent form, it's not like we even played well in December either, we were poor against County and Vale and average against Swindon and a backs to the wall win against Exeter. I don't care what recent form showed I'd be shocked if we made the play offs even if we did manage a result today.

Yeah sounds fair, from my angle in the Ponny level with the edge of the box it looked a pen although as soon as Vernam stole the ball back you knew he was going straight down so the ref probably thought the same too, didn’t stop me going mental at the ref though! :bg:

Grimsby obviously can't be too critical due to the players missing today, but you have still been a team on really good form and won the last five at home so it's a fantastic result for Mansfield.

I don't think Play-offs is beyond possible for them, I have always said you have a few players I really rate at this level (Thomas, M Rose, Pringle) Not to mention one of the best goalkeepers in the division. It will be tough like, and will rely on one or the two better teams in Exeter, Colchester, Bury etc to mess up but that's how Lincoln got in last season.

Nobody is saying we will make the playoffs, only that there is a chance. We made up 5 points in a month so it’s absolutely do-able.

It entirely rests of January’s form and signings

We didn't make 5 points in a month, we made 3 points by winning 4 in a row. We made 5 points up since October

We should have been comfortable ,by the time grimsby put us under any pressure ,not clear with the penalty appeal but winning away at grimsby makes a nice change onwards and upwards

After Cheltenham, we were 12 points off and before today, it was 6 and it’ll be 8 after today. You’re both sort of correct.

Well he said month and at the start of December we were 9 points of 7th, at the end we were 6 points off.

After the first 10 games we were on 5 points, 11 off the play offs, and despite getting almost 2ppg since them we were still 6 points off, so we made up 5 points in 15 games on auto promotion form, 6 points is a lot as it relies on us not only maintaining the form but also the teams in playoffs losing form, and/or the other 6 teams between us doing the same.

Sod it then let’s pack up for the season we’ve got no chance.

I prefer to be realistic and don't over react to some good results the same way I don't overreact and call for the managers head after losing a few.

Besides this season was all about rebuilding after Slade gate and we are well on course for that, another season in lge 2 will also probably do us good too, we have so many youth players coming through and getting a chance, how many would get that chance if we ended up in lge 1 next season?

As soon as we knew we had no defenders today we should’ve either flooded the pitch or had a couple of our reserves called up for Madagascar.

Naive, schoolboy play by your lot.
