Flint never expressed an interest in going to Birmingham, I was willing to accept Flint leaving for the right price as we signed a better centre back in Baker for a third of the price we would have or will get for Flint.
He said the interest was 'flattering'. Birmingham were the only club last summer that made an offer for Flint, not one bid but three. Johnson said that his head wasn’t ‘right’ to play. And didn’t make your starting XI again until you played Reading (SIXTH match into the season). I wonder if he celebrated Maghoma’s winner when you lost at St Andrew's.

Flint had interest from many clubs but Johnson confirmed at the Q&A early in the season that Flint's head wasn't turned by Birmingham and your paltry offers, he had more significant interest from clubs that would've been more appealing than the one he's currently at.

Think you might be a bit premature there. But it's interesting that Garry Monk currently has a higher win percentage at 19th placed Birmingham than Gary Rowett has with Derby.

Not really, a top 6 finish was always going to be an acheivement this season. A successful year regardless of what happens next.

Deserves some credit but I'm guessing he'll get none from you... :bg:

I was looking through that ‘Would you sack Rowett if we lose on Sunday?’ thread on DCFCfans. It looks like those who are pro-Rowett want a bit of continuity and stability, and those who want him out are bored of his style of football. I know it’s effective but when there’s more emphasis on defensive shape and structure than playing attractive football, it’s bound to split opinion.

To be honest I'm in stuck between both the pro and anti Rowett groups but I wouldn't want him sacked purely for the two reasons you list, we need to give a manager time. That and despite the football played it's hard to argue against a manager who's achieved a top 6 finish. The fact it has split opinion, despite the finish, shows not everything has been rosey this year though.

Most of those who want him out are still stuck in McClaren's 13/14 debut season where we were good to watch, we've seen since that not every manager plays like that.

One thing that has impressed me and surprised me has been the change from his normal 4-2-3-1 to 3-4-2-1, that's the reason we've picked back up.. it works. Didn't think he'd be able to adapt and we'd keep on sliding down the table so fair play to him for stopping that.

We'll see which way we go next year after he's shifted a few more unwanted players out and hopefully he's able to bring some more of his own in. He's no genius but he's alright at this level.

As a Birmingham fan he did an amazing job at blues considering he had a shoe string budget, I will say though that I honestly prefer Garry Monk he’s more attacking and IMO is a more intelligent manager but there’s no doubt Rowett is a good manager.

I strongly fancy Derby for an unlikely successful play off campaign, Rowett having the last laugh at Wembley.

I’m indifferent to the man, really liked him as a player, felt he was great initially as a manager, the rumours about him holding us to ransom soured my opinion somewhat, I didn’t agree with the sacking but the bigger mistake is what followed.

As a former Blues man I wish him well in the play offs.

Good season for derby just came up against a very good side in the playoffs. Rowett done a good job there too.

It's a strange one. We've played badly for 70% of the year, we've won games where we shouldn't have and we've been comprehensively outplayed by a number of teams - two of them being Sunderland and Burton.

We've finished sixth, though, and we can take credit for that. I do worry that we could well follow the footsteps of Reading, Sheffield Wednesday next season. If not, perhaps even worse.]

Definitely a good outside tip for relegation anyway.

What has changed since the last one?
What has changed is that Rowett has decimated Derby’s playing style with boring, defensive football. He allowed Ince & Hughes to leave and brought in players aged 30+. Derby have the highest average age for minutes played this season at 29.5, and the lowest % of minutes played by under 21s at 1.1%. Rowett's addressed that by tying up Keogh, Carson, Forsyth & Ledley with longer contracts :conf:

Still made the Play Offs and gave one of the better teams in this division a run for their money.
Derby only managed two attempts on target in 180 minutes of a play-off semi-final. Birmingham put more goals past Fulham in half that time, a match if they’d won they would have got promoted. When we went 1-0 up, we were still looking for the second goal. After Cairney scored, we went straight up the other end and got the third to kill them off.

If Rowett had showed a bit more positivity like we did, you could and probably would have took a bigger lead going into the second leg. Fulham look vulnerable at the back when they’re hit on the break, should have used the width more to run at Targett & Fredericks. Defending for your lives to protect a 1-0 lead from the first leg was never gonna work. I thought it was funny though seeing Rowett complaining over Bettinelli running the clock down when the Derby players were doing the same in the first half.

So nothing has changed since the last post then, you've just pretty much copied and pasted the anti-Rowett half of dcfcfans.

Decimated is strong, we haven't played decent football since 14/15. Ince and Hughes were always going to leave, the only disappointing thing about that was the fee received for the latter. The 30+ year olds have actually turned out to be our best players. Davies most peoples POTY, Huddlestone impressive, Ledley impressive pre-injury, Jerome fired us to the play offs. Arguably his worst signings have been the younger players we have spent a lot of money on.
Keogh, Carson and Ledley have had quality seasons, literally no issue signing those three up.

I don't think there's any hiding from the fact he went against his word last summer but it's clear to see those signings were all reactionary, too good to miss deals. Why not, we were 45 minutes from pulling off a 50/50 shot at the PL so hard to argue.

One game in isolation doesn't really prove much, look at the previous 23 games they played in to that one. If only Rowett had shown a bit more of that positivity that got you a couple of spankings at both Brizzle and QPR. Not too sure there's any high horse to be sitting on when it comes to stopping Fulham, you beat them in a one off game with so much riding on it, so different to the tie we played in last night. They're a quality team who had already been to Pride Park and played us off the pitch when we attempted to take them on. I'm not going to lecture GR on how he got it wrong as he wasn't actually that far off getting it right, a bit more composure and quality in the final third and we'd have taken them closer.

This side has clear limitations, we gave it a go with them in mind. Didn't disgrace ourselves, didn't bottle anything like the great tiki taka side of 2014 apparently did, we just came up short against a clearly better side.

Plenty of things to improve on in the summer and next year but if you can't say finishing 6th is a successful season (in his first full season) then we might as well pack it in. He's a decent manager with plenty to learn who's earned the chance to have another crack next year.

I do agree derby could have been more positive, we played positively in both games against Fulham letting a steady 8 goals in, however we scored 4 ourselves in the 1st game and in the 2nd game we had one of our unable to take our chances games, so yes I believe you can create a lot against them but they can rip you apart in seconds. Fulham are as good as wolves for sure, just that very poor start cost them but since November I'd guess they have more points than anyone.

Probably not. They want Moyes apparently, but they’re struggling to persuade him to come down to this level.

Presumably he’d rather be like Curbishley, wait for a Prem job, and then never get work again.

He’ll easily get another prem job, did a good job at West Ham.

Stoke have approached Derby to speak to Rowett. I could see him going.

Not quite true, he has punditry and has had different jobs at clubs.

Why would he just take a management job for the sake of it, has to be right for him. Far more commendable than these same old recycled managers who just grab any job offered to keep themselves relevant.

Incidentally, If I remember correctly he wanted the Wolves job after McCarthy left when they were pretty much dead and buried but walked away after they would only offer him a contract until the end of the season. He was obviously happy to manage Wolves in the Championship.

Yes, I love Curbs. Leave him alone.

Wasn't he an assistant at Fulham and West Ham as well? Probably done more as well as doing punditry so been pretty active, just not as a manager.

He managed West Ham.

Think he had a couple of roles at Fulham including coaching and technical director or something.

Indifferent to this as a lot of us are.

The only thing I’m miffed at is it’s another 8 players he’s signed now thrown into a squad that’s already fucked up enough as it is.

GR is made for Stoke IMO, players are already there for his style and he’ll have millions to throw at it too, no brainier for him.

If he takes Carson he can fuck right off though.
