I remember in 2002 we got to the 3rd round for only the second time and drew the glamour tie of Oldham at home.

After winning that and making the 4th round for the first time ever we drew - Burnley at home (then Division 1 Burnley).

We somehow won that game as well so surely we're due a Premier League team in the 5th round (the last 16 of course) with the likes of Newcastle, Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea all being left in the draw - nope - we drew WBA away!!!

Sometimes the FA Cup can be a right bitch.

We drew Chester in 2006 in the 3rd round. Went to a replay and the winners had Newcastle at home. Had to feel a bit for them after we beat them 1-0 at the Deva.

During the 2003/04 season we made it to the quarter finals. Our run was;

Round 1: Chesterfield (Who were in the same league as us.)

Round 2: Hornchurch (not a bad draw at a low ranked non league side.)

Round 3: Bolton (yeah they were prem at the time but hardly big timers.)

Round 4: Luton (Again same league as us. Lowest two ranked teams left in cup.)

Round 5: Swansea (At the time league 2 side and pitted the two lowest ranked teams left in the cup AGAIN at the last 16 stage.)

Quarter finals: i remember watching the draw live with more anticipation than ever because alongside us left in the cup was;

Tranmere
Manchester United
Arsenal
Sunderland
Fulham
Portsmouth
Sheffield United
Millwall

We drew Millwall away, i was devastated. For the third time in consecutive rounds we the lowest ranked team drew the other lowest ranked. Not only was it Millwall (no disrespect to them) but it was Millwall away who were flying in the championship play offs while our league form was poor we were sitting mid league one.

We actually held them to a 0-0 at the new den with them missing a penalty late on. They beat us at Prenton Park in the replay 2-1 with goals from Tim Cahill & Neil Harris. We were unlucky that season people say the draw was kind and gifted us winnable games but the way i see it sooner or later we were always going to lose one so i just wished we’d lost to a Man Utd or Arsenal.

Easy to say after getting knocked out, but firstly Charlton's equaliser at Field Mill was about 2 yards offside, for what we received an official apology for, and then that in the replay.

Happy to get those decisions out of the way in something irrelevant - hopefully we will get a fair decision in the league

I remember losing to Exeter one year when they were non league and we were League 2, then them drawing Man Utd away, felt absolutely sick as fuck.
Exeter held them to 0-0 at Old Trafford too before losing the replay.
I can’t remrmber ever getting a plum tie in the FA Cup, all our games against the massive teams Liverpool twice, Spurs, Arsenal, Everton have all been in the League Cup.

We've had Newcastle away and Liverpool at home in our time, also Middlesborough in the 4th round before they went shit, remember us getting a full house at home to Burnley also when they were top of div.1 (before it became the championship).

My first ever FA Cup game we lost 2-1 in 1997 to Southport at home

We had the same in 2015/16 as a League One club, Exeter (L2) away in R2... lost 2-0 and they got Liverpool the next day in the draw.... that then prompted everything else that followed when the chairman lost his shit and saw us plummet as a stable top half League One squad wasn't enough obviously...

Aside from that we got to Round 4 in 2014/15

Shortwood R1
Salisbury R2
Plymouth R3
Brighton R4... watching the draw with both sets of fans in the pub pre match and that came out and collective sigh...

Then in 2017 we got to Round 3 and got Championship Huddersfield away... crap crap draw! Played them millions of times and them on their way to the Prem dicked us 4-0, ironically the fans who travelled to Wimbledon away where we lost 4-0 in the league where compensated with a free ticket to this!

Mansfield fans moaning about one goal when they were already 2-0 down and completely forgetting they conceded four others.

Let’s talk about Lyle Taylor’s third goal when he made your defence and goalkeeper look like an u13s autistic side.

That's the goal that Bowyer said was a farce wasn't it?

We are just shite in front of goal, it was not a 5-0 game (Bowyer) we should have scored 3/4 (Bowyer) but yeah you were ruthless in front of goal and that has got to be admired.

I don't really see why you went defensive at that, I mean we are not that bothered quite frankly, Lincoln on saturday is more important but we have already received a apology for the wrongly allowed goal in the first game - Charlton should not have even had a replay.

Any more Charlton fans on here? The two that have bothered so far are a bit noncy. I can't tell if both are children or on the wind up.

I really don’t care about last nights game, we earned a 2nd round tie at home to Doncaster. Great.

Just felt I had to say something after every Mansfield post seemed to be moaning about one goal out of five as if that is what changed the tie or about a goal that was scored over a week ago, but of course - they're not that bothered.

It’s when you consider the referee over the two ties, it’s irritating that’s all, turn the situation around and you would be the same so let’s stop pretending otherwise.

This is a thread designed to be able to talk about the FA Cup and the match, so surely you would expect a few comments regarding big decisions in a match? No the farce decision didn’t change the game yesterday but it’s still a topic point in a game of football either way.

I can’t help it that you get upset at that.

Couldn’t be further from being upset if I tried.

As said, I really don’t care about the tie or the competition and couldn’t give a shit what the referee does. In fact, the last thing I wanted was a replay for our already depleted side so a 1-0 defeat at your place would have suited me fine.

I never get this. We wouldn't have had the same number as Exeter in the draw, so we almost certainly wouldn't have got Man Utd.

I was looking forward to Billericay, so a bit annoyed that Chesterfield decided to win a match for the first time in ages to get through.

Bit harsh to bring Macclesfield into this, in my opinion.

You’re bemused by me replying to a post I’m quoted in?

You’ve made the effort to come in here beforehand though, because you made up in ya own mind that every Mansfield fan post was directed at the fact the 3rd goal changed the game, which is untrue.

Let’s just keep it to what happened, Mansfield were incredibly wasteful in both games and FYI we are in every game. Referee gave a goal wrongly in the first game which got you a replay, then in the replay you lot were ruthless, our lot were shite in front of goal again and the referee fucked up again.

The end result is Doncaster at home, a winnable tie for Charlton, enjoy it.

Live. Laugh. Love.

Ahh yeah hadn’t realised that, it’s a bit confusing when I looked at the ball numbering systems, for the second round whoever won from us and Exeter would’ve had the same number, but for the 3rd round when Man U come in it goes back to alphabetical order numbered balls.

Get rid of replays in the FA Cup, pointless.

Tell that to the non-league sides who manage to draw games against league sides and get a chance for more money or a TV appearance.

You say that, but in a one off tie, you have a better chance of beating a higher division side than if you played them in a replay.

Apart from the very rare occasion a lower league/non-league side gets a draw at home to Manchester United, and then goes to Old Trafford, they are pointless & got no need for them in the modern game.

It’s been 10 years since we reached round 3, and on that occasion we got Millwall away and lost after a relay. The FA cup has been very grim for us in recent years.

Obviously winning the original tie is preferable, but I doubt any non-league side would scoff at the chance of taking a league side to a replay. I’m 100% certain they would take that over losing in ET or penalties after drawing with a league side inside 90 min

They don’t necessarily have to travel to Manchester United. They could get a replay at somewhere like Sheffield United or Norwich in front of a crowd of 12,000 or so. That’s huge for these minnows.

Replays certainly can be irritating but definitely not pointless in a lot of instances. The FA Cup is about a lot more than just progressing into the next round for a lot of clubs.

Keep cup replays but scrap the fucking Checkatrade. Last night was our 7th consectivtive Tuesday night game and we have another next week and then another the following week.

Losing last night might be a blessing really as we have a free Saturday now a week Saturday, Hopefully we put our kids out in the Checkatrade trophy the Tuesday after that aswell and go out of that.

I'm all for keeping replays and respecting the long tradition of the cup, as has been said lot more other modern fluff to ditch first if we need to be trimming fixtures.

The check a fraud has many faults but you can't blame your hundred Tuesday night games in a row on it when you have postponed games because of a couple of nobodies playing for Mali under 20's

Let's be fair, if we take away the seond one you're on about, it would have still been 4-0 and would have made no difference so stfu
