There have been so many articles about what companies are contemplating, planning for or on the brink of doing, yet so few about the drastic measures they've actually taken.

It's almost as if certain people - the people in a position to make these stories stories, for example - stand to gain from such a narrative.

I'm glad you are concerned about what motivates powerful people to generate narratives. The Brexit campaign was largely funded by a few very rich men (financial). And it was backed politically by Boris Johnson (political), Michael Gove (political), Jacob Rees-Mogg (financial) and Nigel Farage (ego).

I suppose you want something more tangible than speculation to indicate whether it's a good or bad thing like maybe the value of the pound, or recently announced tax increase to cover costs.

If we were of a mind to try and measure the effects of leaving the European Union before we've left the European Union we could also point to lower immigration and unemployment, or boosts to exports in certain sectors, or the economy generally weathering the uncertainty much better than predicted... but none of that makes much sense until we have actually left the union, or at the very least know what that will look like.

It doesn't make much sense to try to measure the effects of leaving the EU until after we've left?! Are you serious?

It's this sort of rank idiocy that makes me so angry with this ridiculous act of self-sabotage and those promoting it. Genuinely seems to be a game to some people.

For us, on an internet message board? Of course it makes no sense, because it's literally, objectively impossible. What did you learn from a company saying that it 'might' leave in the incredibly unlikely event of a no-deal Brexit? Nothing. What did you learn from exchange rates or unemployment figures? Also basically nothing, because all that is certain is that the situation that produced those numbers is temporary. You can't build any kind of useful model based on information you have no access to. It would be difficult enough even if we knew what the deal looked like, and utterly pointless so long as we don't.

That is a genuinely hilarious juxtaposition. I'm sure Brexiteers knew they were voting to move away from little things like the forefront of aerospace technology so we can focus on securing the juiciest plums for this once great nation.
Hang on - they've literally said they've attempted communication with the government for 12 months so they can operate their EU publically traded company. Brexit is only milk & honey with the right direction. Unfortunately we got this government but if you pray for a general election every night before bed you never know we might get one soon.

How long does a snazzy animated video like that take to make? Because she tweeted it out 10 minutes before their 12 hour meeting to decide all this officially ended.

May has brought about her own downfall over this bullshit as most Tory MP's support Brexit so we should hopefully see a leadership challenge soon. She has threatened to sack any minister who speaks against what she cobbled together what a shame she didn't have the same attitude with Barnier and drunken Juncker instead of accepting whatever they demanded and throwing more money at them. Thatcher thought she was unsackable and if May thinks the same she deserves to see a rebellion kick her out.

The Tories are so lucky that Corbyn is as hard left as he is, because fear of his leadership is surely the only reason to vote for the "Conservatives" nowadays (unless you're a millionaire).

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.

And the fact that because Corbyn is as pro brexit as Farage and has only ever promised the same unicorns as the Tories, albeit with a red tie, there is no really credible opposition.

The winning side, which featured two high profile members of the government in Gove and Johnson broke the law in the referendum. Why wouldn’t he even mention it (even couched in terms of wanting to make sure they don’t do the same thing at the next GE) unless he actually cares more about Brexit happening than he does about bringing down the govt?

David Davis resigns.

This is all going brilliantly, isn’t it.

I’m quite sad about Davis going, he seemed to be quite measured in his approach. A casualty of May pandering to remainers sadly.

Did Davis actually achieve anything? As far as I know, nothing has been done yet.

As far as I know, Raab has basically been Davis' apprentice in Euro-skepticism for the last several years. So I'm not sure how this changes things. Except I guess May now has the slightly weaker version of Davis in the post, rather than the Sith Lord himself. Without wishing to totally gloss over Raab, as I'm sure he is his own man with his own ideas. But is he any more motivated to work towards May's ideas than Davis was?

I've struggled to find much detail on what 'the Chequers agreement' actually entails, save the promotional video above. I've seen a few bits and bobs basically guessing, such as this in the FT. But I find it hard to form an opinion on it at this point.

His cunning plan to get the PM job would be in tatters if he'd let Dumb & Dumber (DD) Davis get out there ahead of him on the hard brexit bandwagon.

If Brexit ushers in the demise of the Conservative Party I may just forgive it the economic armageddon and global political isolation.

Two years after the result and FBPE types still going on about funding regulations when over half of donations for both campaigns came from just ten wealthy donors.

Is politics now just pure negation? Where is the vision? How can you still not understand what drove many people to vote leave in the first place?

The time for that was during the referendum campaign. Actually, scrap that - the time for that was before Cameron agreed to hold a referendum as at least then it could be argued that neither leave nor remain was an answer to the problems of those who voted leave. I have no time for the standard kneejerk procedural/legalistic arguments put forward by liberals when things don't go their way, but now we're in last ditch firefighting mode they might just come in useful if they somehow help avoid/delay Brexit Day and stop us falling into the abyss. They won't help in the long term as it won't tackle the causes of Brexit, but hopefully will give more time to put forward a more sustainable, substantive, positive, radical vision that doesn't involve us just shooting ourselves in the foot.

If England do bring it home then it's obviously the first of many long term gains. It would be undeniable.

It’s frustrating as I feel the plan unveiled on Friday (whatever they may be) must be too “in” and therefore I get the impression we are just getting Brexit in name only, which then makes the whole bloody thing pointless. Either you do it properly or you don’t do it at all. A half and half version is the worst of both worlds - abide by the rules but write none of them.

It’s a big time bottle job from Remainer May, she got cold feet and blinked first. Davis was doing well in the brinkmanship stakes, held his nerve well under heavy pressure and I was confident with him at the helm. Not now.

Boris can do one frankly, he’s only resigned as he sees a leadership opportunity. Knob.

Genuine question, why were you confident with Davis?
