Will take the win however it comes, beggars can’t be choosers at the moment. We’ve lost enough games from iffy ref decisions over the years and we’ve been more than due a win given our recent games, last week being a fine example.
The tackle for the penalty was clean, hence the outrage and abuse I’ve never seen before for a referee at Gresty Road. Just another of Hannant’s dives on the day, should have been booked for his 1st in the first 10 minutes, but he got away with it all day, as the ref was shit. Robbed. Anyone who went knows that, take the amber specs off.
Given the shite you posted about Hannant in the Amoo/Hannant thread a few weeks ago, I personally find today quite sweet. You had personal hatred for him beforehand, it’s just beautiful.

Probably just me, but I can see why the ref gave the penalty. In quick time, you could be convinced it was. Yes Ng does touch the ball, but it only moves a fraction and Hannant sells it like a champ. It wasn't a penalty, I'm just not prepared to go crazy over awarding it.

I think the Green red is fair. And once that happens, everything is skewed. Positive is how we played in the 2nd half, you can take a small moral victory that we had excellent stats for a team with 10 men. Doesn't count for much, but still.

Artell would be wise to focus on his own teams issues before whining about the ref. Yes, they are shit Dave, tell us something we don't know. I doubt he'll be complaining about their standard if we get a similar penalty next week. Powell scoreless in 8, Porter in 6. Can't score the opening goal. Can't start games well enough. Conceded in the opening 15 minutes in 4/8 games, can't get a lead going to half time. Plenty of stuff to try and solve aside from the obvious mystery of why are 4th tier refs so poor.

Good to see a Crewe fan with common sense. I’ve seen it back in slow motion as yes Ng does get a slight touch of the ball but in quick time you can see why the ref has given it.

Football evens itself out. Look at your penalty against us last season at your place. It was never a pen in a million years but I didn’t see Dave pulling the referee up on that decision.

What penalty? We didn't get a penalty against you at home last season? Or the season before, or the season before that. Two very decent finishes (Miller's was fantastic) put you to the sword at our place in a game we dominated last season.

Regarding the game. We only have ourselves to blame for the two terrible goals we conceded from open play. Very happy with the second half performance, Anene changed things when he came on but as soon as we got the lead the defence (which let us down yesterday) switched off. I'm a traditionalist so I'll always argue that 50/50s like that should never be a red but if you're a ref (who was truly atrocious yesterday) you've got a split second to make the decision and I'll accept that. Pointless us appealing it too so that's Green out for the rest of the month. We gave a very limited side who probably would've taken a point before kickoff two gifts which they gratefully accepted and thus we were our own worst enemy yesterday. Clinical finishing wins you games, not a first half of passing it sideways playing into their hands. Second half was a different story though.

That penalty decision was shocking though I can't see how anyone can justify it or stick up for the referee yesterday. Hannant was going down before Ng even touched the ball and quite frankly he was an absolute disgrace yesterday. Persistent fouls, a cynical handball in the first half, diving, kicking the ball away when play went dead a couple of times. I'm absolutely astounded as to how he wasn't sent off yesterday. The referee was far too lenient when dealing with his antics. He totally lost control and made lots of poor decisions. There was a foul given for when a Cambridge player did an overhead kick in the box with no Crewe player around him, obviously he landed awkwardly but how the ref thought it was a foul baffled me. The boos he received were richly deserved and I've not seen a ref as bad as him at our place in all my years of going. He makes Attwell, Kettle, Salisbury and Wolstenholme all look competent.

Onwards to Orient on Tuesday where we need to bounce back quickly.

I think I got you confused with Morecambe which is an easy mistake to make.

At the time I was convinced it was a definite pen. Then I watched the match highlights and I was still convinced it was, but I kept replaying the footage 'cos it wasn't only the Crewe fans claiming it was dive but also a good number of U's fans as well. And yep, with the benefit of more replays I could indeed see that Hannant dived. It saddens me to say this but it was such a good dive that it's wholly understandable why the ref fell for it, while only being 2 or 3 yards away.

The red card is another matter entirely though; the ref did get it right, though I really do understand why the Crewe fans were so incensed at the time. Except that going by the new rules, that sort of tackle is a straight red nowadays, and my guess is we'll be seeing a whole lot less of so called 50-50 challenges in the near future whether we like it or not. I don't, but I'm aware that quite a few serious injuries occur after a 50-50 challenge.

He blatantly dived all game and was never booked. For the red card he was shrieking in pain then on his feet straight away. Your players were kicking balls away after the ref had blown. Regularly sitting down for no reason to waste time. I’d be ashamed of those antics if it were Crewe. I’m convinced the ref was intentionally biased.

You're coming across as someone who's never been to a L2 match before. The only thing we agree on is that at times (but deffo not all the time) Hannant was looking for cheap free kicks. That's something I hadn't seen him do before, and it could be him being ex Vale had something to do with it.

As for the rest, sorry but we have to agree to disagree.

Glad I watched the master van der Poel instead yesterday. Small blip. Onwards and upwards.

Just watched it after reading this thread and that’s a blatant dive, he’s already going down before any contact is made.
Can’t really tell on the red, I can see why he gave it with the speed he flew in and how the Cambridge player screamed like a woman in labour, but only one footed I think that’s harsh myself, and the Cambridge player must heal from his injury really fast as he gets up as soon as the red card is out.

If thats a wind up, its a very poor effort. I dont recall Hannant diving once all the time he was with us.

I think he meant he had beef with Crewe being ex Vale so was happy to shithouse them.

Wasn’t known for diving with us but wasn’t really ever a player in the box! We had him out wide. That said in fairness Aspin had that weird honesty policy where players would be in trouble for diving, time wasting or kicking off at the referee etc whilst we had to watch everyone do it to us!

Hannant has been in the thick of everything for us since joining. I’m not condoning the so called dive but he’s been nothing short of fantastic since joining. Astounded he was released.

We needed more pace and power as our goal scoring record was dreadful so that was likely one of the reasons, to make way for Amoo and Browne as we lacked pace and have Worrall who is similar in style as a wide man but better at it.

Askey has a certain character he likes too.

going by half speed on ytb, it's not a dive but the crewe lad does get a touch on the ball first.

Ah my bad, I read it as us being a team of divers and we are anything but.

Didn't go to the game but have watched the highlights... The red card could have very easily gone either way. It was a 50/50 ball and 5 years ago, it would have been harsh to book Green but can't really have to many complaints about the sending off... it couldn't have been that malicious if the player recovered immediately. Now the Pen... yeah it's a dive but Hannant knew the challenge was coming.

We go again on Tuesday and it'll be interesting to see who will slot into midfield as we've largely been unchanged all season. Personally, I'd love to see Dave give Hunt a start alongside Nolan.

Haha. I was guessing that Hannant doesn't have a lot of time for the Alex. I'm sure he saw firsthand the rivalry between the two clubs during the time he was at Port Vale.

So no, I don't think Vale are a bunch of divers or anything ;)

Red was a red, penalty was a pen after a few viewings but it did look it on first sight.

Reminds me of one we had at Colchester a few weeks ago that went against us actually.
