And yet most of his formative footballing years were spent amongst the hills of the Algarve, sipping port and listening to the almada.

Joe Hart was an absolute revelation at Torino.

He conceded three at the weekend again, against a team who hadn't scored yet. Hart has conceded the most goals of any goalkepeer in the league.

Smat effectively summoned St. Juste with that one.

It was clearly a wind up, not a very good one, and I had already posted extensively on the thread....

7 games in 3 seasons.

....and still playing in the Portuguese league. He's got another loan spell to a top flight team, let's hope his manager doesn't throw a hissy fit and recall him out of spite this time.

He is not playing at all. I am sure Gauld could be learning a lot more about the game if he was running at the defences of sides like Doncaster or Bristol Rovers (which he is very much capable of doing), and not sitting on the bench at Sporting.

What on earth does that have to do with anything? Did I mention English players at all?

Nope you didn't, but I did.

And the best that has been found is a player who did not spend any youth football in England. Sore one.

Why is a nation of 50 million plus people unable to have any successful footballers playing abroad?

Credit to the likes of Gauld and Burke for giving it a try. Some Arsenal player went to Benfica this season as well, right? It's a positive thing and should be applauded.

Because not enough players want to trade wages for chances. The average annual salary of a Premier League player is £2.2m, compared with £255k in the Primeira Liga or £182k in the Scottish Premiership.

He hasn't made a mistake for any of the goals he's conceded yet and he actually prevented West Ham from conceding 5+ on Saturday with some very handy saves. You weren't willing to accept the golden gloves point I brought up, because he was playing as part of a very good team. Conversely now that he's playing for a disastrous defensive team, you can't use goals conceded as a stick to beat him with. Schmeichel and Lloris have made more mistakes than Hart so far this season, goals conceded is an equally flawed metric as clean sheets which you completely disregard.

Though, cognitive dissonance is the name of the St. Juste game.

About $15k Steven.

How strange, St. Juste likes to claim the leagues as equals or fairly compared yet one pays players ten times as much as the other.

Very strange.

I physically couldn't care less and have no idea why you brought it up. Good luck to Burke at West Bromwich Albion though.

Stockport County.
St Juste is surely an Englishman trying to do a parody to take the piss out of the Scots?

I don't actually understand the nonsense that us English think we have great players, far from the truth. Admittedly it gets slightly different the further south you go and particularly to the more, how shall I say, "brexit towns" or maybe "patriotic towns". The towns who froth at the mouth when United go there and purposely wind them up by singing that United have been World Champions more than England for example.

Every football fan I speak to and mix with are under no illusions that England are pretty shite. I've never seen England win anything in my lifetime and I wouldn't put a lot of money on me ever doing.

If England are shite, than Scotland are proper, proper shite. I don't see that ever changing in my lifetime either.

He's right about Joe Hart though. Always been overrated.

Obviously, the English Premier League pays massively over inflated wages for average players. There is no doubt about that.

From a footballing education point of view going abroad is a very positive thing, Burke did it for this reason rather than following the money. Which should be applauded.

Absolute cloggers like Birmingham probably pay their young players more than Benfica, so credit to the (ex Arsenal?) player who took the plunge and went abroad.

He hasn't made a mistake for any of the goals he's conceded yet and he actually prevented West Ham from conceding 5+ on Saturday with some very handy saves. You weren't willing to accept the golden gloves point I brought up, because he was playing as part of a very good team. Really? He looked poor both when Mitrovic eased past him and Pogba beat him from distance.

Still, what keepers just palm off they concede loads but they are not absolutely 100% his fault. Where is this great shot stopper he is supposed to be?

At what should be his peak 'golden gloves' Hart has dropped to a team lower in the league who are now conceding more than they ever have done, and have the worst defensive record in the league.

And you think he's doing well?!?!

Finally, that is not a correct use of cognitive dissonance. That would be altering or manipulating the facts to suit a pre determined point - Hart has conceded the most goals in the Premier League and my point was, and is, that he isn't that good and is very overrated.

In response you are bringing up his golden gloves from years ago, when he played for a team who is now desperate to get rid of him. That is cognitive dissonance, you think he's great and are explaining away the actual fact that is conceded more than anyone else (not his fault gov) and bizarrely asserting that he is playing well by only conceding three. The West Ham defence has hardly changed since last season where they conceded, you guessed it, far fewer goals per game.

Were you relying on the fact I didn't understand the concept of cognitive dissonance? Probably the only way to explain your post.

Except you have no idea what the wages are in Kazakhstan.

Even the SPFL figure looks fanciful to me, would be interested in the source.

Scotland has plenty of successful footballers.

There's no doubt England have a better team than Scotland, we were quite fortunate to draw with them recently.

This is always going to be the case when a nation is more than ten times your size, and where football is also the dominant sport.

For Scotland to get better? We could do with more players following Burke and Gauld abroad.

Remember Jim Leighton? Probably not. ;)

I know the name because of his spell at United but I can't say that I ever saw him play.

I see that he played for Dundee too, is that the good Dundee considering your allegiance?

We've just signed Kylian Hazard

Eden's little brother

He's 22 and been playing in Hungary for the last 2 years so I'm sure he'll be a key player for us in the immediate future.

"sign my brother or i'm moving to barca"

Probably have to sign his kids when they become old enough too. We had Thorgan (the middle brother) for a few years too so I guess we just want his DNA.

Unless all 3 were just raised by themselves in the wilderness I'd assume there's more.

He was only there for a year or so and I can't say I remember much about him there. He was good in the Eighties, but fell off a cliff from Man Utd onwards. Was one of Fergie's first transfers along with Brian McClair iirc there.

I think there is more than three tbh. A bit like the Toure's who there used to be about 7 brothers (think a few died though).

One more youngest brother who's at the academy Eden started with. Both parents were footballers though.

We should sign the 2 other Pogbas, Chelsea should sign Thorgan, and then we can have a proper match.
