Our Chairman, who now very, very occasionally posts on one of our forums (used to be a poster before being involved in the Club):

"We knew a vote was ultimately coming but we didn't know until last week that the format would remain exactly the same. Otherwise we wouldn't have been wasting our time trying to engage with the EFL and making suggestions for changes to the competition.

Under the circumstances we did the next best thing and consulted the Supporters Board."

So it does seem that we made attempts to change how the competition is run/those teams involved.

It also turns out that the meeting between Clubs and the EFL about the competition was cancelled due to the Sky deal issues and a meeting wasn't rearranged.

Would be good to get as many as possible fill Wembley way with a protest on the day of the final. Hopefully it’s to B teams in the final and we could get more outside than in.

We have put a statement out that we voted against the current format!

All I can is wow, didn't expect that after what the club has said the last couple of years, seems they have finally listened to the fans.

Or maybe they knew it would carry on anyhow so just voted against to please the fans?

I think realistically they had to, despite what their private feelings might be. Shame the fans of some of the other proud league clubs haven't and won't put the same pressure on their respective boards.

Good we’ve voted against, shame it’s 3 years too late though.

Everyone’s favourite trophy returns tomorrow - and I think Bury will finally be knocked out ahead of 3 big league games.

So we have

Stanley vs Bury
Vale vs Shrewsbury
Cheltenham vs Oxford
Northampton vs Bristol Rovers

Plus four other ties not involving L2 sides

We got knocked out by Shrewsbury last season at home although the scorer of one of their goals is now at Vale...

We should play in theory a full strength side as we did the previous round as we had no game Saturday and have sent many of the fringe players back from their loans.

Might start with Dior Angus after his goal scoring spell at Nuneaton on loan.

Angus instead of Pope, or as well as? I'd love to see Angus and Miller start.

Rest won’t do the Pontiff any harm, unless he tries out a potential Pope/Angus partnership ahead of the league games?

I’d like to see a positive team with it being a lower pressure game, although the cash for winning would come in handy as long as it isn’t going to Elon Musk!

No doubt all the attention tonight will be at Sunderland, where I suspect that game will have more fans than the rest combined.
Well fixed by Harvey on that one.

Only about 15000 crowd which isn’t good compared to normal gates

In the middle and up front, every chance. At the back though I'm not so sure. It wouldn't surprise me to see Duffo try a different formation with 4 at the back and that could be our downfall.

We've suffered three very big injuries in the last couple of weeks with Will Boyle and Johnny Mullins going down in defence and Nigel Atangana potentially ending his season at Crawley. That lack of bite from Big Nige in the middle means I wouldn't back us at all tonight (but then I would never back us).

Cheers, might give you a swerve then. Oxford have been poor lately though, hence the temptation.

Just seen Guardiolas press conference ahead of tomorrow's EFL Cup game. On Diaz, he has said that if Man City had a B Team they would be able to keep him. He wants the likes of him to play against proper teams, presumably at League One or Two.
This is precisely why we need to keep opposing this competition so the likes of Pep don't use it as a lever to get B Teams into the EFL.
I've gone off Pep.

Agreed, Harvey would’ve defintely been expecting about 30k at that no doubt. Hopefully all anyone is talking about after is the trouble like with Vale/Joke then we might stop getting these completely conincidentel draws.

This more than ever shows exactly why this competition needs to continue to be boycotted.

Man City through. Let's hope they get to the final and play Chelsea. Will be a nail in the coffin then.

Beat Shrewsbury on penalties with Tom Pope oddly missing ours and the bloke Shrewsbury sent on for pens missing!

Should of won that in normal time really. Just us and Bury left from league two... huge task for us both though with Sunderland and Man City kids left in our half.

Man City kids look like they’re going to do well unfortunately. Great turnaround from Bury but not sure I’d have risked that many first team players before Saturday. I’m guessing it’s more for the prize money than checkatrade glory...

Draw for next round is not regionalised. It is an open draw.
