Championship Preview
The English Championship has a plethora of talented teams and players. Many of the sides have experienced Premier League football in the past and are fighting to get back. Teams like Leeds, Middlesbrough, and Nottingham Forest have also played in major European competitions, so they have the pedigree and stadiums to match the big guns.
Thousands of enthusiastic bettors search for the latest betting offers and Championship news every week. If this sounds like you, stay on our page. During this season preview, we want to share some of our knowledge and opinions. We’ll begin by looking at the established front runners, but we’ll include some potential surprise packages as well.
Leeds United
The Peacocks came agonizingly close to the playoff final last year, but they were beaten by Derby in the semi-final. Marcelo Bielsa is keen to go one step further this season and secure automatic promotion. There’s no doubt that the Championship playoffs are epic, but they aren’t for the faint-hearted. One mistake and your entire season can go down the drain.
Leeds have made a reasonable start to the campaign, and we expect them to keep the pressure on for the next few weeks. Eddie Nketiah is currently on loan from Arsenal. If he keeps contributing with goals and assists, Leeds should compete for the top spots.
Fulham
The Cottagers have dropped a few points already, but we think they have the quality to get back on track. Aleksandar Mitrovic scored goals in the Premier League last season, and his great run of form has continued. Scott Parker has some of the most dangerous players in the football league at his disposal.
Fulham still have plenty of time to close the gap on West Brom and Leeds. Two or three wins on the bounce would put them right back in the mix. They’re extremely entertaining to watch. Hopefully, they can make the playoffs for the sake of their passionate fans.
West Brom
The Baggies have made an incredible start to the season. As things stand, we think they’ll go up automatically. Slaven Bilić is one of the most experienced managers in the league, and it’s already starting to show. West Brom have ground out several important wins already. We don’t think they’ll slow down anytime soon.
Matty Phillips and Grady Diangana are scoring goals and creating chances. If they can stay injury-free for the rest of the season, West Brom have a great chance of going up.
Swansea
The Swans struggled for a couple of seasons after their relegation from the EPL, but they look like they are ready to compete with the top teams again. Steve Cooper’s side is playing some sensational football. Swansea are one of the best teams in the division right now.
Spanish striker Borja Bastón has started the season well. The 27-year-old has grabbed a handful of key goals so far. If he keeps on hitting the back of the net, Swansea should compete for playoff places this season. If they can beat the teams around them, they might even secure automatic promotion.
