No game for us to discuss from last Saturday so thought I may as well start this. We’ll probably be unchanged and looking at Bury’s squad I would be happy with a point!

Interesting game from Notts perspective.
3 wins on the bounce but now coming up against a very much better team than those just past.
A decent yardstick to see “if” we have got over the opening blip or if the last games were just because we played “lesser” teams.

Not sure who we could bring in midfield instead of Brisley? Milsom has another 2 games on his ban and no one else fits that position without looking at youth.

Like to think we can get a 1-1 here.

Tough game this, Nicky Maynard is amongst the goals so keeping him quiet is paramount.

Home win. We can't win games against half decent outfits with our weak as piss midfield and the last three games have papered over cracks. Getting to January not in the bottom two where we can bring in some proper midfielders is going to make or break the season

Perhaps a bit harsh, I don't mind a centre midfield pair of Milsom and Hewitt (not exactly Bishop & Ravenhill but not weak as piss either IMO), and I'd say the 3 wins were either deserved/ground out rather than papering over cracks. Better than shipping 3/4/5 goals every week anyway!

Obviously Milsom is still banned for this one, what are the alternatives though? Vaughan, who bless him looks a bit of a fish out of water in L2, Husin, who most people don't seem to rate, or Brisley, a CB who has started the season out of form after a good one last year? Out of those 3 you might as well play Brisley for his aerial ability at both ends from set pieces, and at least I think he is a natural left-sided player so keeps the balance with Hewitt. Unless you are gonna throw a curveball and play Patching/Crawford/Kellett..

That's the problem isn't it. We have lots of options but none of them good enough to play. Of that lot Crawford has the most promise. The rest are at best conference level, in reality lower.... don't get me started on Vaughn

My comments may be harsh but we won't get promoted with Hewitt and Milsom as our first choice pairing. Very happy to be proved wrong though.

Playing midfielders to cover for a midfielder isn't really a curved ball though is it Wooderson. Why are they here if they can't cover ? I actually agree that they're weak but would play Jones as he's at least a footballer and left sided. Brisley looked lost at Macclesfield to me and we looked a man short and utterly uncreative for it.

I’m somewhere in the middle. Not quite painting over the cracks but more stopped the rot rather than totally turned the corner.

Formation dictates we probably play a player out of position in centre midfielder to try and grind out a result.

Win this = turned the corner

Draw this = good result

Lose this = still firmly in the mud

If we play like we did 2nd half v Crewe then I have no doubt we'll pick up 3 points. Depends on how County set up. We've struggled a few times v teams that have shut up shop and looked to hit us on the break or from a set piece.

Big day for us as former player Lenny Johnrose is our big guest and with news he's been diagnosed with MND he's sure to get a good reception - I think some other former Bury players will be there from our great time in the championship too. My first two years as a supporter at 7 years old and I've been hooked ever since.

Bookies rightly have the home side as firm favourites . You can get 3/1 on the worlds oldest professional football club winning this fixture

Bit similar to me with Grimsby that, first season watching us we were promoted to 3rd tier, next season promoted to 2nd tier and then 6 straight seasons in 2nd tier.
Hooked, despite roughly 20 years of misery ever since.

Notts away at Bury is the game when the geezer thought he’d scored, the ball stopped in the mud, Kaspar picked it up and he hadn’t scored.

It is one of my favourite moments as a Notts fan in the basement division. The look and smile on Kasper’s face after it happened is fantastic.

On that day Bury was Mother Nature’s b!tch

i got 33/10 at Bet Victor so about the same.
I think we could shock a few tomorrow but we definitely won’t be keeping a clean sheet.

I can see a high scoring game as we won’t set up to defend and we are good on the break, could lead to an exciting game.
Can see a 3-2 win for either side.

Curve ball in that none of them has started in CM so far, and Patching and Crawford are obviously youngsters. It's been two weeks since Macc now, hopefully Brisley has been drilled a bit in how to play the position. But none of the replacements are ideal.

Anyway, both teams have some good attacking players for this level, like LEP says. BTTS probably a good bet for this one.

I think that’s a bit harsh on them - the problem is that Nolan built a wildly unbalanced midfield with a lack of holding options, so with Milsom out we have to resort to Brisley.

I think Vaughan, Husin and Patching all look capable of doing well as the third, creative midfielder, the curveball has just been that Alessandra has been outstanding in that role so far. I have my doubts over that lasting long term and would expect one of those three to become the favoured option.

As part of the ‘3’ in a 4-2-3-1, you mean?

In the case of Husin and Patching yeah, Vaughan would work best deeper but still as the spare creative midfielder.

Still remains as one of the most nerve wracking days and we were the least likely to go down god knows how County fans felt at 2-0 down. Great scenes at the end though.

Sort of, more so us, we were actually relegated to non league for most of the afternoon...
It’s easier to show it though...
The season that nearly stained
Aha so if Oxford had won, you’d have been down if you lost which it looked like you were gonna.
We had the opposite emotions that day, we were promoted as the games went into injury time, then we conceded an equaliser to Northampton at the same time as Orient got a winner at Oxford meaning we missed out, then turned in an abject performance in losing the play off final.

T.A. I didn’t need reminding of the ridiculously high level of nerves that day. As soon as as one of the goals me and dozens of others just went down the stairs to under the stand to watch the scores elsewhere cos what was happening on the meadow lane turf didn’t matter.

Others things noted from those highlights:

His cool was the finish for Bury’s second?
Never seen that many Bury away supporters as on that day!
Was that Kasper in goal for you?
Fully remember getting the penalty, scoring it and the wild scenes afterwards but not our first goal. Who scored it anyone know?
