First night game Ashton Gate this season, looking forward to it.

Fielding
Vyner Wright Baker Bryan
Leko Smith Pack Paterson
Taylor Reid
Should really be beating these with the options we now have. Flint dropped to accommodate Vyner as we can't be playing Bailey Wright as a full back at home to Bolton, need someone that's more comfortable going forwards as they're going to sit in with men behind the ball.

Diedhiou dropped for Taylor purely because he deserves a go, rotation.

Bristol City 2-0 Bolton (Taylor 15', Leko 64')

17,965.

Interesting that Woodrow wasn't on the bench for Saturday, injured? Think this could depend on if Diedhiou can put in another 60-70 minute stint, if he can I expect him to start. Could see us going Pack and Brownhill in the centre, hopefully we may not need Smith's ability to go box to box and his defensive work so much this time. Apparently Baker has been ill recently too.

Bolton play a typical league 1 style.

They play the percentage game and knock loads of balls into danger areas but there’s no precision or quality. It’s a bit like the old Wimbledon style. However Bolton are pretty good at set pieces and quite physical.

Bolton will get lucky at some point, that’s what happens when you play the percentage game, so they’ll eventually score and will then fight for the points.

First goal is key.
If City score then Bolton’s heads will drop and it’ll end up an easy win, probably big win.
If Bolton score then it’ll be physical and niggly and could end up a frustrating night.

Think i heard Woodrow picked up a knock.

Reckon it'll either be 0-0 or a 1-0 win for us, Bolton will probably play similar to Millwall and cause us some problems.

Woodrow has a calf injury but should be fine for Saturday.

Fair enough, either Diedhiou or Taylor to start then based off how long Fam could last for, think Taylor would be better at coming of the bench than Diedhiou as well if we needed a boost. As for the suggestion of Vyner I think he got caught in possession too much against Stoke, Wright may not be as good offensively however if we can keep a clean sheet we just need to score 1 which you'd back our attacking players to be able to do. Still feel Vyner needs to be loaned out to league 1 in January if possible.

I've got no problem with that if we have Flint, Baker and Wright in the back four...

Should play into our hands.

It will be, but remember that we've come a long way to be able to call a 17k attendance wank! Particularly as it's midweek and there will be about 150 Bolton there.

Anyone else fearing a 0-1 tonight? We should surely have enough to get the job done, but it's City innit...

Got a meeting in Clifton at half 6, going to be touch and go if I can make this. Got a feeling we will make hard work of it and maybe a frustrating night.

Score early and we'll ruin them, just need an early goal.

I think we're pretty good at not panicking if things don't go our way early, expect us to win this.

What's the general feeling around Ashton Gate about Lee Johnson like nowadays? You seem to be looking very strong this season.

Everyone's back on side for now. Let's see how it goes when we lose a few, I think Ipswich will do us Saturday.

Didn't sound like it where I was sat, even 1-0 up and looking comfortable managing the game there were shouts of criticism around me.

That doesn't mean those fans aren't on side with the manager....

I think last season and how poor we were is going to be difficult to completely let go. I think its going to take a while for LJ to get the confidence of some sections of the fans back (myself included if I am honest).

I cant help but ask myself at times if this is just a purple patch and another terrible run is just around the corner where we revert back to type.

yeah, I'm the same. Obviously I'm satisfied with our start, only 1 loss in 13 this term but he'll regain my trust after we lose a couple and we bounce back (if we do).

Same as you guys pretty much. Last years disaster is a niggling doubt in the back of my mind and he has no right to still be here after that but I really can't fault anything he's done since the Preston 5-0 game. Our summer signings look solid, and he's getting the best out of our younger players.

For he first time since promotion, we seem to have a balanced squad and a style of play that compliaments the players we have but that we can adapt if necessary.

Obviously the acid test will come after we inevitably lose a couple but I just get the feeling he's far better prepared for it this time.

I felt a bit annoyed last night, 30 minutes of plan A not working and our fans couldn't help but get on the players back. Our tactic of patient build up play has served us really well so far this year but when it doesn't work for just 30 minutes our fans made their discontent heard which I felt contributed to the players going long ball which played right into Bolton's hands. As said earlier as well there were a lot of shouts in the second half angry at how we were playing when I thought it was just good game management, we were leading and had an extra man so weren't doing anything overly risky.

I noticed the discontent amongst the fans too. Annoying, but I expect the majority were expecting us to turn up and watch us thump bolton 6 nil.

Was slightly worried before the game last night, I knew bolton would put 10 men behind the ball and didn't know how we'd cope against that.

Also, was it just me or did it look like bolton were actually time wasting, whilst 1-0 down?! :bl:

There lies the problem really, City fans often get carried away with expectations of what we should be doing. City have clear tactics they're trying to implement this year but fans can't go 30 mins without getting agitated. I noticed the Bolton players not being bothered about the time as well, walking to get balls etc found it weird, my thinking was they wanted to try and keep us at 1-0 as long as possible to try and snatch a goal late on when we may be trying to hold onto a 1-0 lead.
