All three reds in that game were justified but I don't understand how Lyle Taylor wasn't sent off, clear dive in an attempt to get a penalty when on a yellow - should have been given a second yellow. We should have a penalty in the second half, Charlton were better than us and our defence couldn't handle them.

Peterborough next week.

Joy. We're getting fisted.

wtf were we thinking or seeing in Pearson and Bradley. They're both L2 cloggers at best and that's being kind. Plymouth have really mugged us off with him and Jervis. ffs get Sheehan back in quick smart and play James or Stacey alongside.

Pearson can defend but is quite probably the worst passer of the ball I've ever seen - and I've seen Wayne Turner!!!

Bradley is just shit at everything so far. Can't run, can't track, cant turn, has zero positional and opposition awareness and sure as shit doesn't know where the goal is when has a open header at the other end.

I doubt there is a team in league as bad in front of goal as we are. 42 shots in our last two games, 6 on target. Absolutely fucking woeful.

Er hello. I think you will find we are worse than you in front of goal. We are a good side with no goals in it. Actually on checking we are equally bad.

I have no doubts Sunderland will be in the top two, but I think they underestimated us. They could have been down to 9 men pretty easily, as players got frustrated at Holmes, Browne etc running through them.

A word for Shandon Baptiste, who had a ridiculous game in the middle of the park. Also for every local we met, they were a very friendly bunch.

After six games, we have played 5 of the top 8. Barnsley still remain the best I've seen.

A fair assessment, in the last 3 games now we've appeared to understimate the opposition before going a goal down and waking up. Thought the referee today was extremely inconsistent, how he chose to send Power off but not Chris Maguire and one of your midfielders is beyond me.

We were dreadful in the first half even with 11, similar to the Wimbledon game. Jack Ross must have given them a rocket up their arse at half time as we started to play and actually mustered some shots at goal. Great for a visibly not fit yet Wyke to score 6 minutes into his debut and Jack Baldwin was a rock at the back. Can't fault the players effort, in the last 10 minutes they were dead on their feet but we need to switch on mentally for Fleetwood who will also be well up for the game.

Charlton
The tackle by Kightly started it, rightly he was sent off for the tackle. Then the Charlton player headbutted Kightly, rightly he was sent off.
Powell has done an interesting interview about the ensuing melee. The ref has told him he sent off Oxley because he had grabbed someone by the throat, Powell has seen the replays and cannot see him do anything other than pushing and has asked the ref why he didn't send off the other 15 or so also pushing and shoving.
Hopefully they'll contest Oxley's red.

Fair result though, we are really struggling for consistency but the injuries have not helped and it's getting silly with these reds added in.
If Oxley is suspended we are down to one fit 18 year old keeper, Powell has said he hopes for an emergency loan.

Midfield is just a joke, Powell made a mistake for me playing Mantom today, admitted afterwards that he is 'maybe 50% fit' and now won't train during the week. So every midfielder bar an 18 year old who has started one League Cup game is injured, that includes the other 17 and two 18 year olds in the first team.
Demetriou who played centre mid last week is now off on international duty and Kightly who could play centre mid as well is suspended 3 games.
Barring some miracle I literally have no idea what the team will look like next week, or what formation we'll play trying to play so many players out of position.

Having since seen clips on twitter and the highlights, all 3 sending offs were correct. Love Powelly, but not sure what clip he’s watched, Oxley clearly sprints near on 30 yards to get involved and looks to swing a punch at Lapslie.

Love Bowyer’s reaction to Fosu’s sending off. Not criticising him but basically saying he completely understands why he did it but needs to learn he can’t react like that. Always backing his players.

Didn’t think we played particularly well but definitley the better side. Good debut from Cullen I thought in midfield. Credit to Bowyer, done some good business this summer despite the restraints he’s working under. Beginning to get some decent players back from injury now too so hopefully we can start to kick on and be Roland-less come January.

Think Cuthbert was better than both of them as well. Maybe they will come good with more time and games under their belt but they are going to have to get used to playing a completely different way to what they are comfortable with.

The amount of blatant fouls that Akinfenwa gets away with is farcical. You need a strong ref when you play against Wycombe and unfortunately we got a very weak one. Still should have won mind you.

Surprised at the criticism of the centre backs to be honest. I thought Bradley especially was excellent yesterday other than the penalty which was soft as fuck.

Neither overly comfortable on the ball granted which is a little odd considering how Jones likes his defenders to come and collect the ball, but both are very good traditional defenders IMHO.

Said official yesterday is seen as one of the best officials outside of the Premier League which is pretty worrying. Not making excuses for him - he's been a Championship referee for a while; he probably just hasn't come across him in the lower leagues - some referees seem to (wrongly) target some players.

I'm not seeing what's so good about Bradley either - but everyone seemed to be after him in the summer. Plymouth fans?

It's surprising Jonesy has signed 2 very agricultural centre halves. We're not going to get promoted from this division by having these two in - not that this is the aim.

Was more a general criticism of what I have seen so far from them than just purely yesterday, although i would disagree that they played well yesterday as well.

I just dont really understand why they were signed, they dont seem like players who play how we want. I understand perhaps one of them being signed, always good to have a big bastard to head it and kick it against a direct side (although first half in particular they didnt deal with that at all well - see the penatly and the early chances Wycombe had - they could have scored within the first 2 minutes when all of Rea, Pearson and Bradley shat themselves and converged on Akinfenwa from a free kick leaving the centre half with a clear volley on goal), but both, and at high cost as well, I dont really understand.

Their poor on the ball ability sets the tone for the whole way we play as well.

From a Wycombe fan:

I really really really hate luton. the town, the club, the team, most of all totally deluded scum fans.

Where's the love? Hate is a strong word. Although I don't like playing against Wycombe because of the way they disrupt the game, but I don't "hate" them.

As for yesterday's game, slightly gutted we didn't come away with the victory yesterday considering the chances we had towards the end. That said, from the position we were in I'd take the point.

As for the two penalties, the first one was very soft - it seemed as if Bloomfield manufactured the penalty by backing into Bradley and went down very easily (but both Collins and Hylton have won penalties in the same way). The second one, I can't see how Collins has handled it as much without being pushed, but again hard to say on the video - if anything the push came from one of his own defenders.

Wycombe are a difficult team to play against. They still disrupt the game, give no time on the ball to anyone. It seemed we were suckered into going "more direct"; at times we were doing it more than they were. And each time it went down Anthony Stewart's throat.

As a team, they didn't wake up until the penalty save. We need to start playing in the 1st minute and not the 46th.

I think we'll finish higher than Wycombe, but both teams will be in L1 next season. I did have to laugh at their fans singing: "same ol' Lu'on, always cheating." Oh the irony!

we must expect more from PRM

for someone who is playing more of an engine room role he must affect games more.
he has odd cameo role moments where he can look good in spells and yet still flatters to deceive over the ninety minutes
the odd shut my eyes and hope for the best shooting from distance is good on the eye but 9 goals in 185 games ??? over 6 years.. 1 assist on record so far...???

never mind the defence, our midfield must do more...1x free kick from Jorge apart...no goals...
how long will it take nj to work out his best team ?? he tends to end up with a better team after substitutions than the one he started with ?
looks like lee has cemented his place...but the rest of them have got to be looking over their shoulders ...
class report....6/10.....must do better....

Think that's harsh criticism. Still think we need to do some work at the back but slagging off players in that manner doesn't help. Anyway Wayne Turner is forgiven for all the misplaced passes and tackles he made thank to THAT goal against Watford.

Hesitant that this is becoming The Luton Town Thread, but we just need to go back to basics and play the best players in the best positions on a consistent basis. James Justin was the worst player on the pitch yesterday; not his fault, he was totally lost in a position completely unfamiliar to him. He replaced Jorge Grant who is a natural in that position.

O'Kane is a great acquisition - he oozed class when he came on; especially for someone who hasn't played a minute of football so far this season.

Shea, Stacey, Sheehan, Pearson, Potts, Rea, O'Kane, Ruddock, Grant, Lee, Hylton (if fit) for next Saturday.

was wondering when you'd start criticising Pelly again. He's been our best player this season by a distance. Was our best player over the last 10 games or so of last season too. He's blossoming into a top box to box midfielder and we are very lucky to have him in his current form.

They seem to have a weird thing about Hylton from a glance at their forum (even has a 3 letter acronym for him call him DDH - diving Danny Hylton I presume) which is fine for most clubs but... Wycombe? Incredible irony.

The Pelly routine is getting pretty boring now. He hasn't put a foot wrong since our run in to end of last season and has been our most consistent performer this year.

He’s also not there to contribute goals and assists, he the midfield engine and that translations from defence to attack. Other players like Shinnie need to be stepping up to the plate on that score. Be nice to get some more output from him but should t be judged on that basis.

Ronan Curtis appears to be blossoming into a potential club hero already, his attitude to every part of the game (from our perspective anyway.. essentially he's a dogged little shit) is brilliant and infuriating for opposition fans and players. If he gets through the season without a red card it'll be a small miracle though.

Pretty good performance overall, though we again suffered with some quiet spells where we invited pressure from Plymouth. Our squad is looking really strong, and they seem to just be a great bunch of lads™

Assists are a borderline useless metric anyway IMHO. It's not Pelly's fault that Cornick missed the chance Pelly created yesterday, or Pelly's fault that Collins missed a penalty vs Shrewsbury etc. Chances created is a much more reliable metric but unfortunately those kind of stats are not widely available at our level.

Oh come on every fan bar a Luton one in Leagues 1 & 2 despise Hylton for his diving for penalties when no defender is within touching distance, our fans aren't the only ones who call him DDDH.

And thats fine, I get it from just about everyone else, but from Wycombe its a bit odd given the whole Ainsworth era is built upon those dark arts that DDH is so well versed. He is an Ainsworth wet dream of a player. Live by the sword die by the sword so to speak.

Trust me he'll never play for Wycombe as even Ainsworth understands how despised he is with fans who keep the club going finacially. The majority of us Wycombe fans hate Ainswort's tactics at times but there's fuck all we can do about it.
