Do you think £10 is reasonable?

I do yes. £20 for a ticket, about the same for travel to Rochdale, midweek fixture and that's before drink and food.

Like I say it's not the same as being there but it's a nice alternative.

Of course I might hold a different opinion if we'd lost 4-0.

Sounds like yet again some shitty defending cost 1 or 3 points.

It’s getting boring now how we can constantly make defensive errors for 3 years and yet still not change anything at the back. Remarkable!

We were lucky before in having Taylor, Bodin and Harrison so we could just outscore the other team. Now we have none of those and we can’t score from open play

An absolute shambles from us in the empty stadium, bad owners derby.

One of the worst I have ever seen.

Southend look a half decent side; quite pacey, hardworking at a high tempo. I think when it comes off it probably looks great, but they’ve had little end product so far.

I’d argue we’ve looked better v Portsmouth and Sunderland but a 2-0 lead is very nice indeed.

Hylton now has 2 in 2 but I can’t say he looks to be in great nick.
Summed it up very well. So far we are great in midfield but that’s it. Second half you did a job on us. With hindsight I think we were done by that early goal when we were the better side at the start

Pleasingly comfortable in the end, Southend had a brief spell of pressure about an hour in without troubling our keeper. Last 20 we should have had another 3 or 4 really but for some bad finishing and terrible decision making in the box.

Thought our front two were good all night. Midfield didn't really click for most of it. Defensively solid. Only issue is without Sheehan or McCormack our attempts to play out from the back have to go through three players who don't look comfortable on the ball so lots of to me to you passing between Rea and the two centre backs with no-one wanting to take responsibility for passing forwards. Had we not got the early goal that might have become an issue.

Off and running now though which is the main thing. Get another result on Saturday and the start doesn't look too bad.

Yeah that’s a fair point re. the whole away trip. Hadn’t really considered that. Just thinking on the face of it, £10 to stream a game seemed a bit much.

Thinking about it, £10 is worth it for just not having to tolerate Julian Warren alone.

Lee Bowyer has absolutely torn into tonight’s referee

He’s going to be great value whilst he’s our manager, can’t wait,

One of the worst I have ever seen.

How is Bakayoko going? Noticed there wasn’t much good said about him on Twitter tonight.

Good win for us, excellent start to the game where we were on the front foot. We then dropped deep and allowed AFC to bombard us with crosses, far too many times we allowed a cross into the box. That being said we soaked it up and then with the helping hand of a comedy own goal completed what most would consider the perfect away performance.

AFC will do well if they can sort out a potent goal threat. Hard to play against, swamp you, lots of high angled/arrowed crosses, big side, quick tempo. But Hanson’s best days are over and although the right winger looked okay cutting in on his left and Piggott did well with his back to goal, our keeper wasn’t really tested and did make any real saves of note for a side that had 20 attempts that’s pretty poor.

Ferrier looks a monster, Ginnelly seems to have matured, Dobson looks very composed and both centre backs very solid.

I don’t think we have played anyone that will test the top 6 yet, but we have made a very good start.

Good win tonight, first half could have scored a couple more with Akpan missing a 4 yard sitter. Very little composure second half however, we need to take better care of the ball hopefully that'll come over time. Scannell and Akpan were immense.

Win against Wycombe Saturday and 9 points from the first 5 won't look shabby, especially as we didn't turn up for 2 games.

Subbed on and subbed off (albeit he was forced to bring him on after 5 minutes).
Manager calling him out after the game for his attitude and performance.
Booed off by the fans.
Rest of us calling it the worst performance from a striker in a Coventry shirt.

Other than that, not bad!

We play Fleetwood tomorrow and I am not optimistic. It will see the GP return of Paddy Madden, will be nice to welcome him back to just hope he doesn’t score.

Bobby Grant will also return and be booed as usual, he has scored the last three times we’ve played Fleetwood so i expect it again from him. Fleetwood have a very good record at Glanford Park, hope we can change that but not confident.

Good to get the win on the board. Got to say Southend looked a decent side especially first half, knocked the ball around well with confidence and for a time I thought at 1-0 we might have some problems. Didn’t turn out to be the case in the end as we were pretty comfortable and I dont recall Shea being unduly troubled. Really should have added to our tally by at least one.

Front 2 were superb all night, Hylton never stopped running the channels and doing his annoying thing, he isn’t quite at his best yet either which is pleasing. Lee enjoyed going up front again and deserved his MoM award for me, think his style works better there than the 10 position.

We did have an issue in that none of Pearson, Bradley, Rea looked confident on the ball playing out how we like so not sure how sustainable those 3 playing together is over the longer term but worked well tonight as thought all 3 were excellent defensively. Fair play to Pearson coming out after his shocker on Saturday and doing the basics defensively again.

Loved Justin’s little cameo at the end, great piece of skill to beat a Southend player to the extent he was so annoyed by it he had to leave one in on him a few minutes later. Great stuff.

Our finishing tonight was woeful. We had 21 shots and only 1 on target.
Frustrated not to get a point - but if you can’t hit the target you get what you deserve

Great typical away day performance. Rovers were on top for large periods of the game. Defending so well and MacGillivray is a beast of a goalie. He's won us 6 points already this season. Rovers massively missing Harrison. Silly lunge on Pitman just after scoring their equaliser. Check out Evans goal. What a goal running onto the ball with your weaker foot! Love the way Rovers full backs hug the line though. Can see why they have such a good home record. Glad to see Pitman come on and play a good part in the win.

Wow, I think the Luton fans who have commented have been far too kind to us, quite easily the worst performance under Chris Powell by a country mile and I saw the drubbing at Plymouth last season.

The only decent period we had was the first 15 minutes or so where we managed some yet more comical defending (becoming a horribly worrying theme over the first 5 games we've played) to go 1 down, I then thought we could be in for a good game as we pressed and passed it around with purpose.
But then that was it, we decided to have no urgency whatsoever, just pass, pass, pass, pass, pass repeat x100, like some shit version of Arsenal. Not one shot on target in the entire game. We even had 4 strikers on in the 2nd half yet still nothing.
A chance to get a cross in, no - pass.
A chance to shoot, no - pass.
It just went on and on, Luton literally just needed to turn up. If anyone had wandered in to that game in the second half you would have thought we were 6-0 up.
Around 70 minutes in I watched the planes instead.
Thought the Luton number 17 was the best player on the pitch. Only Southend players to come out of the game with any credit were Oxley (as usual) for making the saves to keep the score down when Luton broke 2nd half, and Dieng in the 1st who sadly came off injured at half time.
It's time for Cox to be dropped as well, piss poor tonight, we've looked much better when Hopper has been with Robinson up top.

5 games in and yeah, we're fucked. Robins has royally fucked this summer up and we're probably going to pay for it by going down.

Bakayoko genuinely may as well leave the club now. He's clearly not good enough and he's never going to win the fans over it, it's just going to get more and more toxic. Feel for the lad as he's not been given any sort of chance by the fans but he's just not what we need and the longer he continues to be offered up as the answer to McNulty void the nastier it's going to get.

From the Luton supporting perspective I thought we did a decent job of forcing you into that pass, pass, pass. Defended our box pretty well and bar that 15 minute period you mention where a couple of balls came in, there was little drama for us.

Interesting you picked out Pelly (ive noticed opposition fans tend to pick him out a lot more than a Luton fan might), he did have a good game although I felt Lee was the stand out player.

I thought you looked a decent footballing outfit, got some decent footballers and attractive to watch. You can tell the standard is significantly higher in this league compared to last season, hence perhaps why you feel we are over stating your abilities! I wouldnt be as critical as yourself and I on top of the 2 you mentioned I thought that Mantom was quite good, and the full back, who although gave away the penalty looked like he had something about him at times.

Mantom is a good player, but he, Hyam and Dieng are too similar, really missing Dru Yearwood. We may need to change formation while he is injured.
Elvis Bwomono the right back is only a kid, Luton did a good job on him, picked on him, he had no support from Demetriou which didn't help him at all.
It was just a frustrating time, as you say, the football is great to watch, but our end product has been completely lacking at times and there was no invention at all tonight, everything telegraphed.
I will stick by it was the worst performance under Powell though, but that is the standard he has set. Some guy behind me said 'chirst is Phil Brown back in the dugout.'
We never win at Luton anyway, my son got to suffer it for the first time tonight. Good luck for the rest of the season, you'll be comfortably mid table at least.

Rather than mantom, hyam and Dieng being too similar I think we really struggled when Dieng come off. Hyam just appears to me a josh wright side ways passer who also wants to kick everyone up in the air

Never seen a team have so many shots whilst leaving a keeper with more or less nothing to do, plenty of conversions if you decide to change to rugby however.

We still have a lot to improve on, but after Southend a win and not surrendering is most welcome.

Watched us for the first time last night due to cricket commitments on August Saturdays. First half we were good and should have got a second goal. Second half we were woeful and Wycombe deserved the draw (despite the blatant foul by you know who in the build up to their equaliser).

Yet to get a win on the board and still gelling. Carey very quiet at the moment. At least we've got 2 easy games against Peterborough and Portsmouth next.

Well at least we're not bottom.

Again, no need to panic just yet and we should have expected this season to be a big ask in a higher league (since we didn't really have enough cash to strengthen substantially) - but if we can't scrape a win in, say, the next four games, I'll start to get a bit more worried.

I saw enough in the 2nd half at Plymouth to make me think we'll be fine, after the equalizer CMS had a disallowed goal and Kashket hit the inside of the post and the ball run along the line before being cleared.

My oh my. Barnsley gave us as good a spanking as I can remember in 40 years watching us.

They were just miles ahead of us in every department.

Unless that was a one off, that's likely to be one of the promotion places sorted out.

Relieved to get our first win which in the end was quite comfortable. In fact we should have won by more goals with two one on one opportunites wasted and Justin (who to be fair played well the short time he was on the pitch) choosing to pick out Pelly instead of going for goal. Thought Hylton had a bit of an off day with some uncharacteristic errors and strangely lacking in confidence. Pelly had a very decent game, showing his strenght on the ball and willingness to make forward runs. I think he could play a vital role for us this season. Was also impressed with our ability to break quickly on the counter, signs perhaps that we are getting back to some of the form we showed last season.
Agree with my fellow posters in that Southend didn't look a bad side. Neat passing and movement with a lot of technical ability but lacking the killer touch up front. Sort that out and they could well be up in the play off spots. Another small criticism is that their heads dropped once the second goal went in and allowed us to dictate the game.
All in all a good result and performance giving us some much needed confidence.
