Diamonds 1 - 3 Alfreton

Despite the fact I expected it I'm still a bit disappointed. Listening to the game Alfreton had more chances, but Diamonds had spells on top - couldn't score in those spells. Ironically our goal came to level things at 1-1 just before half time when Alfreton were dominating the game.

Interesting to note that Alfreton's 5 goals over the 2 legs were 4 free kicks and a deflected clearance. Seems they missed open goals from open play in both legs too. Finishing from open play clearly not a strong suit for Alfreton, and defending (and attacking) set pieces not one for Diamonds. Alfreton really didn't like our forwards running at them. If we'd played this game last year we would have been easily beaten without the forward options we have this year, if we'd played without all the injuries I think we'd have had a fantastic chance. Not to be though. A shame we couldn't hold on in the original fixture when we lead.

A tough tie at Stourbridge for Alfreton, where they will face another team similar to us (and better than) in their recent history of FA Cup runs. It's not a draw I'm disappointed to miss out on, but it would have been nice to knock out another team from above and have a chance of going further. We've had an eye on reaching the 1st round proper ever since the Barwell fixture a couple of years ago, and this is actually the earliest we've gone out since being promoted to this level, we've also not been knocked out by a side at the same level or below us yet.

Nabil Shariff will be glad to get back to league games. With just 1 goal over the 2 legs his goals/games ratio was taking quite the hit. Brown was back on the bench, though I imagine he would have only taken the pitch in the event of a defensive injury emergency, but encouraging that we might be able to play 4 defenders again soon...

Stourbridge away for us in the event of victory tomorrow.

Pretty tough draw what with their recent superb cup record but just glad to be in the hat after Saturday.

Unfortunately away in Wales on the 30th so wont be able to make should we progress tomorrow v Diamonds.

Now that you've progressed through after tonight's victory. The game against Stourbridge should be an interesting tie with only two losses for Stourbridge in the league, and with both clubs bang in form and having a great season so far, be a close call.

Very fair assessment that Jemfy. I certainly dont think there was two goals between the sides last night and you would have not believed there was two levels between the two clubs either. Diamonds gave an excellent account of themselves and took us all the way! The superb Daniels freekick 15 minutes from time being the decisive bit of quality in the end.

Good to see us actually see us withstand a period of pressure without conceding last night too something we seldom achieved last year.
Overall just happy to be through after two very watchable cup ties from which Diamonds can certainly hold their heads up high. Hope you guys get the promotion you deserve.

Nightmarish journey home last night with several diversions too and junction 24/25 being completely closed. I didnt get home till 01.15
Going to be another very tough test at Stourbridge because their FA Cup record speaks for itself. Would be happy with a replay. Unfortunately I wont be able to make it as I am away which is a shame.

I know the feeling with a nightmarish journey home with the diversions on the roads sending us all over the place with them being closed.
What a nightmare I got back about 01.00 and that was from bloody Chorley.

Seems Ashton Althetic v Chorley may have been chosen by BBC Sport
Chorley FC
FA CUP | Big news coming soon regarding our @EmiratesFACup fixture against @AshtonAthletic. Watch this space!

Makes sense, BBC appear to be working off of the profile of low placed home team vs high placed away side and this fits quite well

Away at Northern Premier Stourbridge FC for us tomorrow. Unfortunately I will be missing what looks like a very stern test indeed. Unlike the last round Id be happy with a replay. Stourbridge have a superb recent cup round getting to the first round in 5 of the last 8 seasons and they of course got through to Round 3 for the first time in their history last season.

Stourbridge come in to the tie on ther back of a very impressive 5-1 win at Warrington which moved they second. We were flat in 2-1 defeat at Spennymoor and friendly or not lost 2-1 to local side Selston in midweek which we do nothing to help boost our crowds.

I hope we have learnt from our mistakes against Rushden because if we underestimate Stourbridge in the same manner as Rushden we will be dumped out for the first time before the Fourth Qualifying Round for 7 years.

Likewise I'll take a draw at Burgess Hill tomorrow, despite their recent poor form in the league. I'm wondering whether Bobby Wilkinson will give Elliot Benyon the start tomorrow as I believe the game will suit his poaching style more than Dan Fitchett.

Hopefully we'll have over 200 down there, new ground and QPR/Fulham play tonight so 2CW's can follow us.

The two encounters the Shaymen have had in the Conference North against step six opposition in the FA Cup have been absolute walkovers. I have no idea why it's goalless between Ashton Athletic and Chorley an hour in, and hope the home side punish them for it.

FA Cup - Brackley 4 - 1 Braintree
Maybe Braintree had an off day, and one game doesn't prove too much...
But if they're second in Conf South, it would further the claims that Conf North is of a significantly higher standard than Conf South this year

Stourbridge 3-1 Alfreton

Couldnt make it but sounded horrific.

Down to NINE men after 25 minutes?! Never known anything like it. Was listening to Black Country Radio who were pro Stour and they understood why the first was given but said the second was very harsh and a shocking decision from the ref. Tom Allan was first to go after his error lead to a Stourbrdge player running clear which he pulled bar apparently. Unfortunate because he has been fantastic recently. Not sure what happen with Bradley`s Woods Red to be honest.

Unreal effort from the lads second half as a Westcarr penalty brought us back to 2-1 down with 25 minutes to play and we were the better side with 9 men and had a couple of chances but in the end Stourbridge made the man advantage count.

Absolutely gutted. First time in 8 years we have not been in the Fourth Qualifying Draw. Will be strange listening to the draw without us tomorrow.
Commendable effort given the horrendous injury crisis we have at the moment. Westcarr was forced to play the second half at left back? and we had 3 academy kids on the bench

I agree and it pees me off. I actually like all the north east teams in pyramid to do well, except these. Seems like colne dynsmoes again. Hope they hit the ceiling soon

Unfortunately they won't be hitting the ceiling soon that's a fact. I would imagine they'll take the EVO-STIK North table this season. They are currently a point clear in that league with a game in hand.
And then with all being well at the club during the summer, take the premier division by storm.

Comfortable win for Boro yesterday, cruising into the 4QR.

Torn between wanting a big team, like Leyton Orient, or a winnable game, like Torquay

Turns out our incompetent ref from yesterday has previous

Last years Third Qualifying game between Workington and Matlock - http://www.timesandstar.co.uk/sport...778-9759-678047b38d23-ds#.WdDfEonV5qs.twitter

Says it all that the Stourbridge manager came over to Macca at half time to apologise!
That referee did the game between us and Alfreton earlier this season. Don't remember too much of note involving the referee on that day which is generally a good sign.

Burgess Hill Town 1-0 Wealdstone (Att: 590)

I hate football. 90 minute train delay meant missing the first half hour but what I did witness was too many square pegs in round holes and lack of clinical nature. Some supporters are going on about how Burgess Hill deserved the win for their plucky spirit but we were the ones asserting control in the second half however we just couldn't get that elusive goal.

Great strike on the volley to win it in the 90th minute to be fair, plenty of wound up Stones supporters venting their anger at the players and management at full time.
