Alfreton vs AFCR&D

I suspect Alfreton may be happy with this draw. Not great for Diamonds, our 5th away game in a row in the competition, and with a low chance of going through.

Peterborough based apparently, thought this was regionalised?

It is. There are 4 rough regions, north, midlands, south east and south west (you can just about see them in the order of the draw)

Here's the draw - http://www.thefa.com/news/2017/sep/04/emirates-fa-cup-second-round-qualifying-040917

We'll play Deeping Rangers. Never heard of them, anyone know anything about them?

One of the better UCL sides (step 5), we're rather familiar with them from our UCL days and we even ended up playing them in the cup after getting out of that division.

As with most step 5 sides they change a fair bit year to year, but they are on the better side, and I believe they will be building to be promoted in the next few years (without splashing particularly large amounts of money at it)

Yeah really happy with that draw. First time we have drawn someone from different league at this stage since 2008. So an interesting tie against a well supported club. Glad its not away though as at the moment we look we will struggle to beat anyone away from home so hoping we get the job done with the need of a replay. Cannot underestimate you either as your unbeaten and top of your league. Will you be coming up for the game?

The beauty of the FA Cup is the opportunity it gives to play a variety of different opposition. So, given that we are Bostik North we were drawn against Brentwood Town (Bostik North) in the Preliminary Round, Romford (Bostik North) in the 1st Q/Round and now get to play the winners of Hertford Town or Grays Athletic (both Bostik North) in the 2nd Q/Round.

Still, last year we ventured further afield and were comfortably beaten by AFCR&D so perhaps we're best being local !

Why do Brackley get shunted into the south-east part of the 'regional draw'? We are in the midlands - neither in the south nor north. Be great if we'd have more of a chance of a local match rather than a game down in Surrey. Teams in the same county like Kettering get put in the northern draw. Feels to me that midland teams don't 'fit' well at times into the way the FA designs competitions e.g. teams frequently being switched from Southern League to Northern League...

Mind you it is only a 1hr 20 min journey if the M25 works... much much nearer than most of our Conf Northern fixtures

Cheers Jemfy. hopefully, we'll have sorted ourselves out before we play them. I'll look forward to this game though, a new ground to tick off.

I'm not able to I don't think - being London based I was hoping we'd be in the southern section again, or at least get a home draw!

All the reaction from our side has been pretty much the same - a very poor draw for us, we'd be happy to get a replay I think.

On the plus side, if this is the end of our run then at least it is against higher opposition...

Home to Faversham - just about a perfect draw we could get. A side two divisions below who have lost their last 3 league games.

Shildon away, should we overcome Abbey Hey tomorrow night. A repeat of the 2012 2QR fixture, strangely.

Should be a decent crowd against Shields with their huge following of Geordies & Mackems behind em.
Only trouble is we don't do cup matches we always fall at the first hurdle, last year at Lancaster City we we're absolutely awful.

Beat Abbey Hey 2-1 in the replay.
It wasn't a great game, but I suppose that's now 5 games unbeaten, which is not to be sniffed at.

Somehow or other you have managed to miss out the Hendon vs Wingate & Finchley cup tie - both the original match which finished 1-1 in front of 298 and the replay which Finchley won 4-2 after extra time in front of 266.

Well spotted, I think their might have been one or two others to add to that one.

Second Round Qualifying Round weekend.

We are at home to AFC Rushden and Diamonds.

Hoping for a half decent crowd for once. Crowds so far this season have been very poor even by our standards. Highest crowd so far this season - 596 v Blyth on opening day.

Confident of progression but we need to be weary of complacency and need to be professional. If we play like we have for our last couple of home games we will have way too much for AFCRD.

Wary of complacency but not too weary to be wary of it!
Hoping that Finchley can shock Hemel Hempstead on their own ground notwithstanding the presence of Ismail Yakabu in their ranks.

Waiting to see our lineup but I think we've probably got a few too many injuries to really have too much chance of causing a shock. Really hope I'm wrong here of course!

As suspected - our RB today is a central midfielder and Punter at CB has played something like 45 mins of first team football in drabs since joining in the summer. 3 forwards, a winger and a young central midfielder on the bench plus GK and no 7th sub named. If we're anything close to competent at the back today I may be pleasantly surprised

Just back from the game. We were very comfortable, especially in the first half. 2 great goals and a penalty. Brown with a great strike from distance and Sonupe with a cheeky lob over their keeper. Second half it seemed like Deeping changed to a 5 at the back, we switched off and they easily scored a corner. We seemed to wake back up grabbed a 4th before switching off again and conceding, then nearly conceding another a some awful defending from Horsfall but thankfully they skied it.

Great day overall, Deeping really welcoming club who just seemed like they were enjoying the day. Into the hat for the next round.
