Six point relegation humdinger at Vale Park. Apart from Swindon where we deserved and got zilch things have pretty much been looking a lot rosier since the appointment of Aspin.
Usually when a team has a new manager it means defeat for Vale , on this occasion i feel we are on an upward curve and i fancy us to win tomorrow.
Depending on the FGR result we could go above the trainspotters, funny that as i could of swore i read and heard in August that they were Champions elect and Artell was the messiah ?
Vale 3-1 ( 4678 )

I've got a rare Saturday off so will be heading over for this one. Barnet have been in free-fall recently, but will a new manager give them a lift?

3-1 home win.

After two months of having serious injury problems, this is looking like the first opportunity to reverse fortunes and get back to the results we had against Luton, Swindon and Cambridge. Should feel like a completely new team with Akinde, Coulthirst, Campbell-Ryce and Weston back. Plus hopefully McGhee will pick the side up from the tough period we've had of no strikers available.

--------------Stephens
Vilhete Clough Santos Tutonda
JCR Weston Taylor Akinola
-------Coulthirst Akinde

I never ever trust Vale in these type of games! Burnt too many times... biggest game of the season so far for me, despite picking up 10 in 15 points we have gone from a point from safety to only a point above it so other results haven’t really given us chance to clear it. Lose tomorrow and we are back in it! Win though and a four point gap opens up and hopefully can start to grow that going forwards.

Think Barnets injury’s have started to clear up so may be a factor too. Play as we have in the main under Aspo and don’t take them lightly then hopefully we will get a positive result and il finally see us win after seven months!

interesting that Beesknees says Akinde back, amazing scoring record and a major surprise that nobody has taken a chance on him, i believe Luton were interested once ?
We just have a whole new feel about things though a home record of 1-1-6 is nigh on disgraceful.

In fairness in all comps under Aspo it is 3-0-2.

Hopefully Jon Macca gets an awesome reception as he joins the legends in the dug out from tomorrow.

2-2 draw methinks - Vale are on their way up under Aspin and Barnet with so many of their first XI players returning from injuries will start to turn their season around.

If Aspin ends our record of direness against sides who haven’t won in 6000 years and have appointed a new manager (although McGee has fallen to Vale on his debut before) then I will actually start to believe he could turn water into wine!

Going today, haven’t seen us win in 7 months and only twice in 2017 (been probably about 15-18 games in 2017) surely my personal barren run of walking out of Vale Park happy has to happen sooner or later!

I`m expecting a tough game as their goal difference shows they are not that bad and have had some good results this season. I hope we go with Forrester and Pope up front and if we do I reckon we will scrape a 2-1 win.
This game has a 90`s feel about it with McGhee in the dugout and Aspin and McCarthy there for us with Rudgey upstairs.

It’ll be tough for sure, imagine they will come to be physical and defend solidly and look to get one on the break and then see it out which we invariable struggle with.

If we score first we should go on to win but if they get the first it will be very very tough to get a result with our record after going behind.

Interesting going two up front after Antons stunning goal against Crewe was followed up by an equaliser last week. Really hope after 18 months he can stay injury free now and live up to the undoubted talent he has.

Powerful aerially that pairing.

Can't deny I am disappointed with the line up. Not sure what Vilhete and Akinola have done to be dropped, particularly for a player like Sweeney whose main attribute is that he is well over six foot tall.

Vilhete has been there years hasn’t he? Sure he scored against us about six seasons back!

Went to the local school, first played for us when he was 16/17. So must be about 7-8 years now. He has been our best player this season, incredible work rate.

Poor game ruined by a clueless referee who has given us absolutely nothing.

We should be ahead though with a free shot from six yards hit at the keeper early on, Barnet have come and defended well though aside.

The referee is that bad he gave offside against Barnet and insisted the free kick be took in their half!

Dont think either side can be happy with the ref but he has a tough job on his hands. So far real blood and thunder stuff.

I think the free kick location was right as well.

We are genuinely, absolutely, 100% nailed on to be relegated this season. We're so, so bad.

Deserved win in the end, has to be patient and the clueless referee didn’t give the penalty it was his linesman!

Tough as expected but the team trying to win it won in the end.

Back so can comment better now!

Great three points and massively needed, the positive was in years gone by we’d have lost this 1-0 or drew 0-0 but kept going and eventually unlocked them through a rare piece of good football to draw the foul.

Barnet came for a 0-0 and were time wasting from minute 1 with the keeper using all the Velcro in his gloves the amount he adjusted them! Very McGee side very physical and the referee never really dealt with it at all.

That said their keeper made three good saves although the first two he shouldn’t of had a chance to save with Pope from six years and Forrester from a similar spot second half and the win was well deserved although Boot had to make one good stop after a defensive error.

Pope was always shit at penalties in shootouts so made me nervous but he emphatically put it away, the clown in the middle wasn’t going to give it despite everyone else seeing it and luckily the linesman on that side was the only competent one of the three officials.

Four point gap and that’s four wins and a draw in the last six (six and a draw in 8 in all competitions) and need to keep going now.

Pope won a lot in the air today but what a talent we’ve got coming into the side in James Gibbons! Another of our kids that looks the real deal, can cross, tackle, has pace and isn’t phased by anything. Good job we’ve tied him to a long term deal last week as looks a real gem.

Enjoyed P&G on the way home in the car too... Artell sounding a broken man... shame he’s such an uneducated manager... :bg:

Just about edged that against a stubborn physical defence. The referee had a poor game. Onwards and upwards though, and a massive 3 points as teams around us also won. There's more teams involved near the bottom after today including Crewe.

Aspins sixth win in 9 games means he has won as many as Brown did in his tenure of nine months!

Ha, I genuinely didn’t realise Mark McGhee is Barnet’s manager. Christ, you have my deepest condolences.

Well i realise Barnet need the points but they were literally time wasting after about 15 minutes !!
Dire game that was only going to be settled by a penalty or an own goal, got what they deserved in the end and hilarious to see the keeper rushing about in the last few minutes.
Some of his antics , swapping sides, deliberately missing the ball when the ball boy threw it to him were a joke, tried everything apart from lighting up a cigar.
The biggest joke was that the referee was completely oblivious.
Hopefully a better game tomorrow as at least Fatty Evans will be trying to win the game.

I've watched it back and still cant see any problem with the time taken. One occasion the keeper moved the ball to the other side and one occasion a player didn't pick up a ball from the ball boy. I'm sure Port Vale would've shown more urgency had Akinola put away his chance just before the pen.

We were poor, our style of play was poor and we did nothing to deserve a win so I have no complaint about the result and congrats on your win..

To be fair the keeper was ridiculous from minute 1 with it, maybe showing us respect because of our form but you win that your out the drop so expected a bit more urgency to win.

Sorry to disappoint. The lineup instantly told me that wasn't the plan and keep it tight, try to sneak a goal was the order on the day.

Just seemed self inflicting to a degree which could be costly if McGhee persists that negatively with the undoubted talent you have in the attacking third.
