And to reiterate, if you don't like it then don't read it....

I don't much care for the New Yorker, but rather requesting they stop publishing, I make do with not reading the magazine.

Works fine for everyone.

That's only because it represents New York and New York was named after the Duke of York and future King James II, an Englishman.

Not the greatest grasp of history there, King James II had a Scottish father and was part of the Scottish "Stuart" dynasty (hence the spelling).

Interestingly, despite the huge disparity in population, it was a Scottish king (the aforementioneds grandfather) who took over the English throne - not the other way around.

And New York was originally referred to as New Amsterdam but was traded for the Spice Islands - a sale linked to the creation of the worlds first stock market.

Knowledge is power, good stuff to read up on.

Tenuous, I wasn't talking about his father.

You Scots will try and claim everything, eh?

This isn't Scot McTominay we are talking about here, friend.

Scott McTominay is another guy with a Scottish name and a Scottish father.

Do you even remember the point you are trying to make?

I'm not sure why you keep bringing people's fathers into this.

Typical playground arguing tactics, in my opinion.

New Amsterdam weren't traded. It was occupied by the brits and renamed in New York. It was later re-captured by the dutch and were furthermore renamed into New Orange. This city were later traded for Suriname and the worlds first stock market is a kind of a joke. the only "thing" that they have traded there for over 100 years were slaves

oh ffs, this thread

to bring this btt which is "International friendlies":

The German FA has announced today that Germany will play against Peru in a friendly in September. Not big news but it's only the 2nd time that both countries play against each. The only one before was at the World Cup 1970 where we won 3-1, thanks to 3 Goals from "the Bomber" himself.

We probably won't have a manager by then, but nevertheless it should be an interesting one.

So Scotland lost to Mexico through the night 1 - 0, with the pick of our highlights being Russell through in the box near the line, fell over by himself when no one was near him; he wasn't even looking for a penalty, he just fell over trying to control that round thing he's supposed to get paid to be good at. No doubt St Juste will think it was another world class performance under McLeash, and use the height above sea level as an excuse on how we lost.

Don't worry that's actually a good result for Scotland, if you consider both countries populations.

:fish:

btw: We'll play Mexico in the 1st group match. Won't be easy to win this one ( we're actually a bit on a dry spell, 5 winless matches (although only friendlies), the worst run since 1988)

We just beat Saudi Arabia 3-0 without even breaking a sweat.

Sweden next as the last friendly before the World Cup.

Is this your way of backing Karius without actually having to back Karius, mate?

I've never said that about any of our performances under McLeish.

It also indicates how much of a fan you are if you can't spell the name of the national team managers, himself a famous player.

Of course, this was very much a second string experimental squad playing two far better teams (from much larger nations) away from home. Losing 0-2 and 0-1 are really not bad results, there is surely no sane fan thinking we would have won.

So long as the players learned something, and McLeish leaned something about the players, it was a worthwhile excercise.

Of course, the self hating Scots will be furious we lost away to Mexico, in Mexico, during summer, with a 2nd string team. For shame!! Disgrace!111

Does your mispelling of 'learned' and 'exercise' indicate anything about yourself?
Just askin'.

Not really, there's a difference between a typo (and me not caring enough to check) than spelling an extremely well known players name incorrectly.

It's not Dalgleish, Lawe and Bremmner. Clear indication someone isn't that interested.

How would you feel about a supposedly big England fan writing about Scoals?

Belgium vs Egypt tonight on MUTV. Will tune in to see how Lukaku does. Intriguing game but no Salah I believe.

It took you a couple of tries to get Paul Gascoigne's name right in one of the other threads where you post a lot about English players.

Alli's pass on Welbeck's goal is pretty good too. I like the lack of ego in that squad. Looks a hard-working unit that'll be hard to knock out. Good omens.

It was good there actually being an atmosphere at an England game. Don't get that at Wembley!

Was a cracking atmosphere around the ground. About time we binned off Wembley and took the show on the road.
