Watched a fair bit of Southampton over the last few weeks and they tend to start strong before fading. If Liverpool can keep them out for the first 20 mins, I think they could nick it; but I'll take a score draw and predict 1 - 1.

Come on. I am sure Southampton will put in a better performance than Hull did against United!
We drew against Soton in the league and I think we will get a draw tmr too. We should beat you guys at Anfield though.

We parked the bus in the league and got a lucky point. We will probably set up for a draw tonight.

We can't fuck this up, but I think it'll be settled at Anfield rather than at St. Mary's. I'm working but will watch it with one eye.

Going to this one, but we'll definitely lose. The players don't like Puel (Which is why Fonte handed in the transfer request, not the contract line) and I'll suspect we'll keep losing until he's gone.

The youngsters are the only ones who are fond of Puel, so they may put a shift in.

I have a dream (© Martin Luther King):

Either a 1-1 or a 2-1 win for Liverpool today and at Anfield a 2-0. And then a LC Final against ManU where we will see the end of the "curse" for Kloppo.

I prefer this dream.

Liverpool lose.

Despite thinking we'll lose, I'm absolutely gutted that work means I can't be there tonight.

Hope our fans can make it a proper cup atmosphere and ignore the obvious two playing for Liverpool.

Is this Coutinho's first game back since the injury?

Seems like Southampton's lead isn't exactly against the run of play.

How didn't Redmond make it 2-0?

Good half from us but fully expecting Liverpool to up their game second half.

Dire, but its only 1 - 0, and should have plenty of chances to turn it round at Anfield. The only positive from our pov, was Coutinho coming back on and wasn't rusty.

1-0 flattered Liverpool. Can't help but think we will regret all those missed chances when the dust has settled on this tie.

Good from a defensive point of view, Liverpool didn't even have a chance after we went 1 up.

Agreed, you lot played with a game plan, were well disciplined and had some great chances to go further ahead. Liverpool resorted to Rodgers football in his final season, too much side to side stuff going nowhere. Missing Mane's directness already and the other forwards just didn't know how to break Soton down. Hopefully they can work on it over the next few weeks and look dangerous again, as the side does look a bit flat at the mo.

Liverpool have got to be the happier after that. Offered nothing going forward and gave away plenty of chances yet find themselves only 1-0 down with 90 minutes to play at Anfield. I'd expect them to turn it around but if Southampton don't just sit back I could see them getting a draw which would obviously be enough now.

Good to see Le Tiss come out and give the referee some stick, the others in the Sky box didn't point it out. He was awful from our point of view.

Tempted to fuck work off and go to the away leg now that we've got something to hold onto.

Brilliant, although can't get too carried away until the final whistle blows at Anfield.

Strong Liverpool team, but we simply wanted it more tonight. Refreshing after last season's collapse, but I still hold Steve Caulker responsible for that.

Glad the referee's display was pointed out. One of the worst I've ever seen and that's saying something after two seasons in League One.

Good stuff.

Hopefully Southampton can go to Anfield and get an early goal to worry Liverpool.

I've seen the replay of the goal and had a chuckle at Klavan's comical error. It sounded like this "hahaha".

Special mention for Romeu too. Been our best player this season after hardly getting a game under Koeman. An absolute tank in the middle and has ensured that we haven't missed Wanyama.

Hardly saw any of it but every time I looked up Redmond was through on goal. Not especially confident for the second leg, we're not playing well without Mané.

All defenders make mistakes tbh, and he has been fine really in all other games he's been in excluding Burnley (where the whole side was shite that day). Not going to castigate him for it, and on the balance of play anyway, Soton deserved to score.

We're up against it in the tie, but when have Liverpool ever done it the easy way, and its only halfway so all to play for yet.

Doesn't look like we'll be signing anyone this window either, so the team is just going to have to adapt. Maybe Ojo will come into the side once he's upto speed, he's got a bit about him that kid.
