This is something unusual and different. Furthers details including the players involved are to be announced this week

3 special matches kicking off simultaneously on Wednesday 29th March at Tamworth, Harrogate and Eastbourne featuring 3 squads of Conference North and South players against 3 British Army XI`s.

Admission to the matches is £5 Adults with Seniors and Juniors free.

The National League and The British Army are pleased to jointly announce that they will field three representative sides to play each other simultaneously on Wednesday 29th March with the matches being staged at Harrogate Town, Tamworth and Eastbourne Borough respectively.

All three matches will be supported in partnership by Vanarama and S&C Slatter Ltd.

The purposes of these matches are:

. Strengthen existing ties between The National League and The British Army at a recognised sporting event.

. Enhance the community relationships between local member clubs and Army units in and around the locations selected for these matches.

Full details for each of these matches will be detailed in due course but will kick off at 7.45pm with an entry price of £5 for Adults (including match programme) whilst seniors and juniors will be FREE.

Brian Barwick, Chairman of The National League said “This is an innovative approach and we are pleased that with the cooperation of our member clubs we will be able to consolidate the relationships we have collectively and individually with the Army. We look forward to three enjoyable encounters on the field and meeting up on the evening in three different parts of the country, thus enabling fans to come and support these matches. Our grateful thanks are extended to everyone who is working to make each a success”.

Major General Mitch Mitchell, Chairman of the Army FA endorsed those comments by saying “Over the last two years the support of The National League itself, along with their member clubs and their title sponsors Vanarama has allowed us to forge new links in communities wherever we are based and to assist personnel leaving to return to their working community. These links grow daily for the benefit of all concerned and these three matches will cement even further the ties existing. The Army FA is pleased to join in this venture and hope that it will attract a good following both military and civilian on 29th March. We have strong community connections with the three venues chosen”.

Interesting team selections. I presume that certain teams (Fylde, us, Chorley, Halifax, etc.) chose for their players not to be considered as there.

Sam Heathcote? He's not even a regular starter in Britain's worst football team. I'm guessing the squads are picked almost exclusively on the ability to get the day off work.

I like the idea as something new and unique. The obvious question already asked and without a clear answer is what happens to any profits made? Hopefully they can be directed to a charity. I guess it's hard to say anything at this stage since it will be difficult to tell if the matches will make a significant enough profit or not! That said announcing a charity link up would certainly help drive up attendances, with the obvious idea of pushing anything military based (i.e. Help for Heroes).

It could be a good thing for the host clubs to help push up attendances by drawing attention of local people with an interest in football and military connections.

I can't help but think that the timing is off though, something like this would be better around the same time as the playoff finals (on a different day) - not involving the finalist teams of course. A Wednesday in March isn't the best timing! After the season has ended for most teams. At least then any tapping up etc will generally be with the aim of next season when players will be touting themselves around anyway etc.

I imagine clubs will be fuming if players get injuries from this of course.

Game time creater for the Harrogate Town lads included. All on the margins except Agnew who has just had 6wks of preseason training.
Apart from an initial tweet a few weeks back not been anything to publicise this from what I have seen.
May would have been a much better time.

Charlie Sheringham, on loan at Hemel from us, got six apparently. He's hit a bit of form since leaving on loan, which I'm glad about, but I still very much doubt we will need him next season.
