You could fit the entire Dover team inside McNumpty's jacket.

Is that the same McNulty that just a fortnight ago struggled to get near a striker we signed from Northwich? Oh aye, best player in the league...

Still banging on about that pointless cup game, well done enjoy your fixture pile up when your trying to make the play offs

Nah, I'm banging on about McNulty being too slow and unable to out jump any tall forwards. Was immense in his day (his spell at Barrow mainly), but his last two trips to Holker Street he's been crucified.

There's at least half a dozen better in this division.

I thought this thread was going to be about what Steve's favourite baked potato topping is.

FWIW, I'd guess 'pie'.

No, no, no. Josh Gowling is the best centre-back in the division.

McNulty had a dodgy couple of games when he first signed, before settling in to become one of our best players. His performances are usually very good, but like anyone at any level he will have his more difficult days. Just because he didn't play particularly well at Barrow this season or last doesn't mean he's no longer the player he was several years ago. He has always been slow and fat, so will probably be no worse in another 5 years time.

When I saw the title of the thread I expected to open it and see a picture of a tent.

I remember when McNulty was at Burscough and they were in the play-offs to qualify for the inaugural Conference North. They were playing against Bradford Park Avenue and it went into extra time. McNulty had to ask to be substituted as he was flying off on holiday that evening! He's never been the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's definitely a tool.

Quality player. A rare bit of natural footballing talent in this league. If he wasn't fat he'd be playing much higher up, so count yourselves lucky that you've seen him play.

I love it when fans claim that Mcnulty only had their star striker in his pocket because of the way their players played the ball to him. "I'm only obese because I was spoon-fed cake."

I must admit mate hes not very good at charging into his own keeper and putting the ball into his own net so yes, i can throughly understand why you wrexham chaps dont rate him. However you are quite right yesterday he did have the whole dover team covered .

I can understand and share Mark's exuberance after an unexpectedly comfortable Rovers win at Dover yesterday.

It sounded from all I've heard and read that Liam Ridehalgh's excellent man-marking contributed as much to Miller's quiet game as Steve's performance. McNulty, despite his size, remains a real talent at this level, although he'll have good and bad games like most at this level as getoutofit points out.

Rovers shouldn't be judged on one game be it the cup defeat at Barrow, or another, in the same way as I wouldn't rule out the Bluebirds promotion chances on the basis of a dismal showing at Prenton Park early in the season. Personally, I'm quite sorry we've not got a cup trip to Taunton next weekend. All teams in this league are here because they deserve to be, and that includes Rovers

Dover are widely recognised as being the most bizarrely random team in the league in terms of form so I'm not sure why Tranmere fans are all suddenly spaffing their pants over this result.

One week they'll be on fire and put the likes of Lincoln and FGR away, the next they lose 5-0 to Chester or 4-1 to Boreham Wood at home.

If we're being technical here, Ricky Modeste was in McNulty's pocket. Miller still hasn't emerged from Liam Ridehalgh's (never thought I'd say that)...

Ricky Miller was made to look like Ricky Butcher off Eastenders yesterday, Andy Cook stole the show. As for McNulty, he looks a little bit uneasy to me at the moment. Think he selected the back 4 when Brabin was manager and doesn't like playing along side Sutton and Vaughan who were both excellent yesterday. Indeed it was an allround pant spaffing 2nd half performance.

Yep - I'll definitely be telling my grandchildren about him in 40 years time.

"Who was the best player you saw live? Messi? Ronaldo?"

"Nah, it was Steve McNulty son. It was an absolute privilege to watch him being given the run around by JOE QUIGLEY in November 2015."

I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek, in case it didn't come across. I still reckon he's ace though. Steeeeeeve.

His reading of the game has always been excellent. If he wasn't so hugely fat he'd have surely played higher than he has.

I thought the Fleetwood and Luton vintages were better than what I've seen of him for Tranmere. Kayden Jackson made him look stupid last year.

Miller was anonymous at ours recently when we beat Dover 5-0.

Hmm .. Reda Johnson definitely, maybe Creswell, Doe and Diarra (cause McNulty is past his best), possibly Raggett and Pinnock by seasons end once they've another years experience. Clough's not so good on the ball under pressure or at reading the game.

I think at his best, McNulty was better than any of those - just not now. For us, Livesey is the better centre back, even though Diarra is a beast.
Most teams have a good centre back though, and I'd maybe add Tilt at Wrexham to that list, who seems extremely composed on the ball.
