So will the favourites win the bid (USA/Mexico/Canada) win the right to host the event or Morocco come out on top despite some issues with facilities and safety?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44338953

Sure the final vote will be political - even more so with Mr Trump around upsetting everyone including 2 of the countries the US are trying to co host with!

Didn't know Mexico were in on this. Thought it was only the US and Canada...

I don't mind who gets it. Although most of my acquaintances who've been to the US recently said the place stinks since Trump got elected (people more edgy and more racist). For purely practical purposes, I'd like Morocco to get it. A country I'd like to visit one day.

Hope Morocco get it coz they're... a country. Having it in Japan and South Korea was okay as they're geographically small but spreading a World Cup out over most of North America would seem a bit shit, IMO.

Don't understand why they're spreading it across all 3 countries?! Surely the US could go it alone. I'd like them to get it anyway, I went to Paris during the Euros and loved it, but fuck going to Russia and I'm not sure about Qatar. The US is used to tourism obviously, so I don't forsee the flight/hotel prices being as crazily inflated (ala Kiev recently) compared to a smallish country like Morocco.

Can they ban the American "ultras" if we get it please? They're annoying.

And we thought Russia was too big/too far to travel for each game...

1 question I do have though, which country gets automatic qualification/seeding? Surely it can’t be all 3? That would be a joke

Remember the World Cup is going to be 48 nations big by then, 3 automatic qualifiers is nothing really.

Is that actually happening then? I guess by then it will be.

Wasn’t there going to be some sort of additional qualifier even at the word cup? If so, I bet those 3 wouldn’t have to go through that...

Today is the day for the final decision - see Trump has sent out warnings about punishing countries who don't vote for American and co!

Reading about this just makes you realise what a farce it was for England not to host the world cup for 2022. Mexico & USA have held 3 world cups since 1970

And we thought travelling around Russia would be too much

Looking forward to the Yanks with their equivalent of the Vuvuzelas

Wonder if they’ll wheel out Diana Ross to have another crack at it.

England wanted to host games in Milton fucking Keynes, I wouldn't have voted for them either.

The US hosted the best ever World Cup (off the pitch at least), this will be even better - it's bigger and the country is much more used to the game.

Hopefully there's games in Montreal and Boston as well as New Jersey, all are a relatively short trip for me :woo:

The bid suggested the final in New Jersey.

Mexico and Canada will each have seven group games, two matches in the round of 32 and one in the round of 16... How will Estadio Azteca not get at least a semi final. Wtf.

Should have been Morocco :(

We weren't going for 2022 - that was between USA, Australia and Qatar I think and we know money won the day there !

tbf, I get the logic of Qatar. There hasn't been a Middle Eastern world cup before and it's expanding into new markets. Of course, the whole killing migrant workers thing should disqualify them...

Pretty sure we were - and we were the first to lose the bidding. I remember Portugal/Spain attempting to host a joint world cup (who I saw as our main competitor)

Although actually a quick google shows we bid for the 2018 World Cup. Damn :(

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_and_2022_FIFA_World_Cup_bids

Seems we did go for it and they then decided to host 2018 for European countries only & 2022 for non-European.

We should hopefully get 2030 though!

Pretty strong competitors tbf. I think we've had some endorsements already though which will help (from within Fifa)

Believe so, also from the German FA and certainly UEFA.

Frankly if 2030 isn't Uruguay/Argentina/Paraguay it'll be a disgrace.

I hate everything about this decision (and shameful that the German FA had decided to vote for them). I bet Trump already tweeted that he brought the World Cup back to the "greatest nation".

Alright, Mexico is football mad but they already had the World Cup in 1970 and 1986. USA? don't get me started . Canada? yeah, ok but...ah **** it. Money again as usual.

I don’t think it’s right to have three hosts unless those three hosts are small countries - I could forgive three countries like Sweden, Denmark and Norway for example. But two of the three in the United bid have held successful world cups on their own - I don’t see why a joint bid was needed?

Still, I’m more in favour of this than Morocco as all the people I know who’ve been there disliked it and felt unsafe, particularly the females I know who have travelled there for work.

A Nordic World Cup sounds great, watch it be the next bid to beat England.

Yeah, this is rubbish. I am INCANDESCENT* that the US are gonna host a second World Cup before us.

*ok probably more MILDLY IRKED, but still

And why does it take three ginormous countries to host it? Ridiculous. They would preferably:
1) host it solely in Mexico. Hopefully the border wall might have been constructed by then. This would have the advantage of keeping all those pesky yanks out.
2) Retain Canada as a host but add England and Germany to the bill. An Owen Hargreaves World Cup. Who wouldn't approve of that? And it's not much sillier than the current plan in terms of distance.
