Management is a funny thing though in that as fans we don't really know anything about it, we think we do, but we don't. Ronald Koeman's career wasn't glittering prior to Southampton and look how in demand he's been, had always started well at places and always ended tanking and either resigning or sacked. Management still seems such a mystery and dependent on a bespoke things at each club for success or failure.

What does a manager do day to day? how much say do they have in transfers, training, what goes on during the day to day even. Are they a facilitator or due they just due certain bits? Ferguson and Wenger are too of the few examples of those that succeed with doing everything. Was interesting to hear this week that Guardiola doesn't pick the captain and lets the players do this.

Add in to that you have guys like Mick Mccarthy who can always seem to do certain things, Martin O'Neil used to be similar too, I remember within weeks of taking over his Sunderland side were running on average the highest in the league, up from 2nd bottom previous. I remember Billy Davies getting canned as apparently he was spending 3 days a week in Scotland or something like that? Also I recall seeing George Burley on a match day once at a petrol station, only hours before kicked off and over 60 miles away from where they were playing, and apparently that wasn't a one off.

Think it was pretty obvious as soon as this takeover was to be completed Jackett was on the brink, on the whole he did a really good job with Wolves amd wont struggle to find work. As for the new man Walter Zenga his CV isn't particularly impressive nor was he a name I would have even thought to be the next manager, his first signings seem to be going down the continental route, can see this being a let down to be honest. However I said the same about Carlos last summer and look at us.

Whenever us fans talk about managers it's always this one's good and this guy's shit, and whilst there are a few exceptions like Mick McCarthy or Neil Warnock with really reliable records where you know what you're going to get in reality you feel there's a large element of just plain luck over managerial appointments: just having the right man in the right place at the right time. The amount of managers that do fantastically at one club and then struggle the rest of their career (people like Phil Brown or Owen Coyle), or on the flip side people whose records don't particularly stand out suddenly go and perform wonders - look at Ranieri!

You can probably pick out examples for every club, Nigel Clough at Burton Albion another that springs to mind. From a City perspective, I don't think Derek McInnes is by any means a bad manager, just the club was such a shambles at the time that anyone would have struggled. And Gary Johnson hasn't had anything like the success elsewhere as he's had with us and Yeovil.

I think the success of a club is based around the strength of the operation behind the scenes, how it's run at every level from the boardroom to the scouting department to the academy, and the extent to which the man on the touchline actually matters is very minimal. Unless of course he's the man to pull that all together, as, say, Benitez appears to be doing from the outside at Newcastle.

For Wolves, I'm not sure how I think it will go. Using the links of someone like Jorge Mendes could be very useful as Sheff Wed have found. But it appears (you guys will know more than me about the accuracy of this) that he'll have an awful lot of power at your club, and I'd find that a bit worrying. I suppose it depends where his motivations lie: building up Wolves as a club or just furthering and providing opportunities for his own stable? I suppose you could say one leads to the other but if he's too focussed on his own clients rather than laying the groundwork you might end up like Doncaster did with Willie McKay

McKay even has influence at our club ffs. Basically got Cellino to bring in his two sons and they've even been playing for the first team in pre-season and they're fucking wank.

Well it appears we were due to signs that Pele lad and didn't as weren't happy with his medical. Seen varying reports but if true shows that Mendes isn't the complete puppet master.

Remember at the start of this thread when I said Mendes would use Wolves to offload all his shite onto as McKay did with Donny?

I feel for big mean bunny but glad it's happening to Mark's club.

So far we've signed a guy who played 25 games for Monaco last season who finished 3rd in the French League, a full back from Atletico Madrid who helped Benfica win the title last season... and are on the verge of signing Talisca, a guy who scored 3 Champions League goals last season (1 a free kick vs Bayern Munich) and was recently in the Brazil squad.

Meanwhile you signed a sub goalkeeper from Sheff Wed and some guy from Falkirk whilst being rejected by Dean Whitehead.

And you say we are signing shit?

That Silvio has only ever played regularly for Rio Ave hahaha and the other has only started 15 games in his life.

The championship is more competitive than both Ligue 1 and the Portugese league too.

When it all ends in tears, remember who told you it would.

Oh and btw that Talisca kid isn't signing over wage demands yet his agent is helping run your bastard club hahaha you've fell for that, that's to keep you all excited and happy while all the shite is being signed.

Silvio played 14 games for Benfica last season, and has only just overcome a double knee break that has put him on the injury table for 18 months.

Helda Costa is 22, he has played 72 games for Benfica B and 25 last season on loan at Monaco.

We'll see regarding Talisca if he signs..

As for now please stop talking shit and derailing this thread unless you have something worthwhile adding to it, thanks.

So Silvio is a crock...

Helder Costa played for Benfica reserves, I'll raise that with a Tom Thorpe Man United reserve captain with more appeaarances, he's shit aswell.

Alarm bells should be ringing that a bloke running a club can't sign his own client.

My post is discussing Jorge Mendes and his clients and is entirely relevant to the thread.

Ugh, don't know why I'm arguing with you...

Costa played for Monaco last season, y'know... the team who were in the Champions League last season and finished 3rd in Ligue 1? He has also represented Portugal at every youth level internationally.

Also, we just signed Jon Dadi Bodvarsson 10 minutes ago from Kaiserlslatun for 2.5m... guess what he has no link to Mendes.

I think we'll be just fine, We can compare our respective signings at the end of the transfer window if you want.

Centre mid needs to be addressed now, appreciate there seemed to be good reasons for Pele deal not going ahead (either the injury story or him simply not wanting to move champ are both understandable) however as much as I rate Price it's too soon for Evans to be playing 30+ games for a side hoping to be top half. Would hope Wallace is going to get a chance too.

When are Dicko and Graham likely to be back?

He started 15 games, wow.

We just released a trialist who represented Belgium internationally at every youth level, means nowt.

You've just spunked £2.5m away on him you mean? I'll raise you that with 200k on Christoffer Nymann. Let's see who scores more eh?

Why do I keep seeing it mentioned he is a winger? Looks like he weighs about 7 stone in the videos they had up on TWF and seemed very tricky so assumed he was kept out the thick of things.

There is a Joao Teixiera who played for Liverpool / Brentford / Brighton who I think was a winger if you were thinking it's him? Our one is from Benfica, confusingly the same name but different person entirely.

Yeah he does seem lightweight... I read that Zenga plans to only play him in certain games to 'protect him'. If he wants to be protected then joining the Championship might not have been the best idea for him.

A bet made on a completely different forum with no affiliation to this one, why on earth would I pay up to a completely different entity.

It's like placing a bet with Bet 365 losing and giving the stake to William Hill.

Utter nonsense.

You're just a man of no morals is all, I had a bet on TFF and paid up on 1FF. I've also had a bet last season on 1FF and paid up.

Anyway lets stop derailing...

Honestly the most backward thing anybody could do.

It's like me making a bet with someone on Millersmad and paying this forum, utter stupidity.

More fool you.

More like you making a bet with someone on Millersmad, Millersmad then closing before the outcome of the bet is decided, then you pay up on the new forum that starts as the new Millersmad

@Mark: Thanks for bringing a bit of fun into it. I was already worried if Walter Zenga is committed to Wolves. But now I read this :D

Welcome back!

Glad you found your way back.
Was going to PM you about paying my dues. How much is the going rate these days. I'll be paying in renminbi, if that's OK. It's the currency down our place now. How's it all going?
