The top 5/6 seem a long way clear of the rest.
As an outsider looking in seems there are 3 leagues in one, top 5/6 , the next 6 hovering nearish the playoffs , then the rest.

From our experience this is very true, borne out in our results where (up until recently at least!) we had barely dropped a point to those in the lower half of the table but had comparative struggles against the top 6. Pretty late into our crazy undefeated run people were saying we hadnt actually beaten anyone of substance which was true up to a point.

Teams like Barnsley, Charlton, Sunderland, Portsmouth in particular just stand out like sore thumbs in terms of quality in the league. Especially in the case of the first 2 from our games with them.

Just on Bobbins comment about those who dont go up will likely challenge again next season. Dont think that will be the case for us. Think we will picked apart a little bit and the team could look very, very different if we were to blow it.

We were non-League at the time is my point, never did I think back then we would be both be in the same division two years later.

Yeah, I knew what you meant. Just pissing about.

Absolutely no way are Luton blowing it by the way.

For sure, I don't disbelieve that. But Sunderland have probably the biggest budget of any side in history in L1 and still haven't been able to get over the line. Expectations often lead to disappointment.

On budgets, we would probably go from the top 6 budget in L1 to probably bottom 4 in the Championship. There is so much money flushing around from owners in that division now. In terms of funding in a couple of years the gap will widen further when funding goes up from £6m to £12m.
I will be interested to see how you do next year with possibly Jonesey as manager as well. You'll certainly start as one of the favourites for relegation alongside the usual suspects like QPR, Millwall and ourselves. I think smart recruitment and especially Kenilworth Road will be absolutely key, a proper ground which will be intimidating for away teams in the same way Millwall make the Den. It won't be easy for anyone to go and win there. If Portsmouth go up, it'll be the same with Fratton Park.

The Kenny definitely helped us last time we were up there. Will be a totally different atmosphere to what we have now, since the conference days pretty much, the home crowd have had a certain level of expectation that we would win most of the games. Led to a sometimes uncomfortable atmosphere if things didnt go well. Next season, if we go on and get promoted, that expectation is totally removed I think as just avoiding relegation will be a huge achievement. So hopefully we will get back some of that hostile/siege like atmosphere that we had back then, and probably lost with relegation to the conference.

We will definitely be favourites to go down and rightly so, we will need to try and keep hold of the current side, especially the 2 full backs who are so key to how we play. Will be interesting to see if we look to change how we play, not sure we could be quite so open and attacking at a higher level but why change what got you there in the first place. Will definitely be an interesting task for the new man.

Anyway sorry to distract the thread with talk about us who might be "leaving" rather than "joining"!

Could be in a weird situation next week where 3rd Mansfield, 4th MK Dons and 5th Tranmere all have to win to stand a chance of going up with 4th vs 3rd.

Bury are up if they draw with Tranmere on Tuesday (their game postponed today) because of the Mansfield/MK game.

Bury are a fucking basket case, fully expect them to come up (then go straight back down after another administration).

Well we're officially back down here now which I'm not that arsed about because it's our level, hopefully Donny and Barnsley fuck up for obvious reasons and stay down and no more tinpot clubs like Forest Green coming up please, we have enough of them in this division already.

Newport beat Mansfield on penalties last night.

FGR vs Tranmere tonight - the latter leading 1-0 on aggregate.

Can't wait to see McNulty against decent forwards.

Sorry to break it to the blood hungry strikers of league one, but not a chance he'll get a contract. He lead us out of the conference but has barely played the second half of this season after Harry Kane and Co (plus a fair number of league two sides!) showed him up. An absolute hero though, will never be forgotten.
