Might bag Scott McKenna if Aberdeen go out to Burnley - said to be Scotland's finest centre back since Gordon McQueen.

Got to say our DoFs are magic. £4m for a CB who's probably 3rd choice, and cost us nothing.

He didn't cost us nothing. We paid £400k for him through the tribunal, and I understand that we've paid an extra £75k in appearance fees.

Ours is difficult to say, the record at the moment is £2.5m, but there are a few where there are clauses that could take it over (Benrahma can rise to £2.9m, Konsa can rise to £3.5m, Rico Henry can rise to £5m - though very unlikely to).

Konsa was more than £2.5m up front.

I thought he was £2.5m rising to £3.5m?

Forgot Egan went to tribunal when I wrote that

For all my past slating of Brentford's business regarding transfer fees I thought you would have got more than 4m for Egan, he's a solid CB.

Why would you slate our transfer model? As a percentage difference between transfer fees paid and transfer fees received, we've probably got the best record in the division in recent years - and we can't afford to stop selling players, as our non-transfer income is nowhere near enough to compete in this division... it's bottom 3 revenue.

With regards to Egan, he's not a first choice given that he doesn't fit our system, but will be excellent elsewhere. Sheff Utd clearly know that and have made a decent offer that we'll accept.

Looks like we’ve beaten Leeds to Jozefroon, 2.75 with add ons. Pretty much one in one out with him and Weimann.

And I imagine Flo would be on somewhat lower wages too. Having seen a lot of him, and having seen some of Weimann's games, I'd say that you're coming out of this one in a better position. It took him a while to settle in for us - joined in January, made a promising start but then faded away for the remainder of the season, but then had a cracking 17/18 - so don't be surprised if he doesn't hit the ground running. But, if you play quick and incisive passing football, then he'll do well for you...

Why would you slate our transfer model?

I wasn't slating your transfer model. Also it's been done to death and I dont think anyone wants to read the same argument over and over again, go back a few pages if you want to read up on it.

Apologies - I'd somehow taken "For all my past slating of Brentford's business regarding transfer fees" as that you had been critical of our transfer activity. Silly me ;)

Would like to have a look through said argument - I've got sod all to do today - but couldn't find it. You got a link?

He basically said you overrate your players and should accept lower fees than you think the players are worth, in a nutshell.

We’ve put a bid in for Zack Steffen. Goalkeeper from colombus crew, know nothing about him but but looks good from YouTube clips (who doesn’t) and just broke into the American first team.

Only 23, and the apparent bid is 4 million euros

Not exactly accurate there Tom. My argument was about British players being overvalued in the global transfer market compared to other countries. I was using Brentford as an example (Chris Mepham I believe) but most clubs do it.

That might be what your argument ended up as, but it's not what it started as.

Anyway, it's been done to death as you say.

Well that's not an argument against Brentford's transfer policy, that's a gripe about the state of modern football.

I agree, but since I was using Brentford as my initial example it seemed more like an attack on them rather than making a point about 'the state of modern football' as you say.

Premier League squads require a quota of homegrown players (or, if they avoid this, then their available squad size diminishes accordingly), therefore with the increasing transfer fees across the board, it's only natural for Championship clubs to demand excessive fees for their homegrown talent.

We've supposedly received a £5m bid for Waghorn from you lot. Worth far more imo.
Obviously not seen as much as you guys have, but seems a good price to me. A good player, but teams seriously looking for promotion would be looking for better.

He is worth far more than £5m to us, put it that way. Involved in the most goals of any player in the Championship last season. £10m minimum

Not one I've heard anywhere, what's he like can he play right wing back?
He's the most immobile footballer in the world so probably not, but he has undoubted quality and I think would do well in a back 4 for you.

Seems we've had £3.9m accepted for Steffen, a 23 year old keeper from MLS who's just started playing for the USA as well.

Did not know that! Good stat.

Can understand that price too, don’t want to sell your best guys when you’ve got a new guy in. Though he might appreciate the funds to revamp the squad.

As stated previously, he was the only player in the Championship to score 10+ goals and also provide 10+ assists.

Don't really care what others think; we don't need to sell him & replacing him isn't an exact science so unless he forces his way out I hope we keep him, despite only paying £200,000-£250,000 for him last summer. The £5m Sheff Utd bid is well short of Hurst and ME's valuation (supposedly £7m) and has already been rebuffed.

It's a nice stat - but he takes corners and free kicks right? Not surprising that he has so many assists as that usually adds quite a few.

Matt Smith got 10+ goals and 9 assists, was only one assist off.

Understand you guys wanting to keep him though - and understand wanting to hold out for a price you think is fair. You'd also have a better idea than us (especially your manager and owner) of what would be a good price to take.
