Complete reverse of the fixture at Vale. Buoyed by a bigger than normal expectant crowd Vale slumped to a usual defeat just 2 days after Aspin took charge of his first game.
I see Grimsby are hyping it up ( rightly so ) as this is a must not lose for both clubs.
When you read the respective postings from both sets of fans it can surely only end 0-0 .
The worst two teams in the League on current form. If there is a loser then i feel they are in huge trouble.
Not sure on the Grimsby record maybe 15 without a win ? Ours currently stands at 9 games, was just putting the Crimbo decorations away the last time we won a game.
I shall attend with a must not lose mentality but definitely not expecting any rousing performance from us.
As previously stated i'll go 0-0 , though it is Vale so the mighty atom Sam Kelly or the bone idle JJ Hooper are liable to nick one.

As you say losing this is unthinkable in the circumstances although Vale are renown for bailing teams out in a dire run.

First game without the Pontiff, could actually help us as we will have to play on the floor and be less direct which may suit us.

Hopefully the two week break will allow us to come in fresh to the challenge, these two games this week are arguably the most critical in our 142 year history. Lose them both we are down. Need four points minimum.

I'm confident we'll play with more desire since we'll actually have an idea of what to do for the first time in a year but I don't know if it'll be enough because we're still lacking quality. We have a handful of injuries, some to our benefit as Dixon is out for a month. We're looking to sign a left back today to replace him. Vernam is out but Mallik Wilks is back, the latter impressing when he's played so expect him to feature. Summerfield is out which sadly means Berrett is very likely to play unless they finally find McAlister who has been missing all season. Dembele hasn't featured much recently but I don't see him mentioned as a doubt so he needs to be starting again.

I expect us to be a lot more organised but I am still struggling to see the talent, especially when it comes to scoring goals. I don't know how we'll line up but I'm curious to see it because Jolley is someone who focusses heavily on countering the opponents gameplan.

I'm quietly confident we can win but at best it's going to be ugly and at worst I am greatly overestimating Jolley's capability of turning this shower around. Make no mistake about it, this is the worst Grimsby side I've ever seen bar none.

I have a feeling that Popes abscence will actually give us a better chance to play football and get something positive from this game. Its all dependent on who comes in, but I think we might sneak this one.

I can only echo what Clarkey has said, there is only so much Jolley can do with this shower he's inherited I just hope we can somehow fall over the line and then he can bring his own players in in the Summer.
I can see a 1-1 here with a defensive mistake for both teams gifting the goals.
I was planning on going to this but as my wife is working Sunday she's informed me that she's booked a table for Saturday at half 4 at Papas for her Mothers Day meal from the kids which we would normally have done on Sunday, so come Saturday at 5PM I'll probably be very grateful for that.

I think you are very much in the same boat as ourselves Fish.
Aspin hasn't been able to polish a turd and we had an horrendous transfer window .
Genuinely fear for the loser if there is a loser. I would definitely take a point right now.
PS you should be booking the table for Mothers day not your wife doing it for herself , get a grip man :fing:, i hope you are paying with the money you usually spend at the game :2thumb:

Haha we'd arranged that we were gonna eat there but hadn't decided what time so the cynic in me thinks she's purposely booked it during the game so that I can't go and therefore can't end up telling her about how shit we were like on most match days, when she always looks REALLY interested in hearing about GTFC.......

Just by the ground and it looks like the home fans have been given free clappers.... fucking great !!
As for our team, truly negative by Aspin .
Shocking aging team.
1-0 home win

Whitfield should start. Crazy decision to go one man up top against the only side worse than us this half of the season.

Aspin will need to justify it if we fail to get at least a point from this gamble.

Genuinely concerned by Aspins insistence on playing 2 midfielders with a combined age of nearly 70. Can’t understand it at all. You can get away with playing one of them but not both, why can’t he see that?!

Would have been three of that age had Kay been fit too!

Felt confident we’d get ourselves out of the mess with three very winnable games this week. That line up has shot that to pieces.

Decent half for us. McKeown has kept them in it just before half time with two big saves though which would have made things more at ease for us.

So far so good, just got absolutely no faith though we will see it out. Got all the hallmarks of the game with Grimsby at VP earlier this season.

Tonge misses a penalty and I can see us blowing this now.

Missed a penalty, their keeper makes a worldie and couldn’t even bury a free kick from inside the six yard box.

Shambolic, Grimsby must be thinking it’s fucking Christmas. Huge huge game on Tuesday. Confidence will be shot from blowing that.

We are lucky that Barnet and Chesterfield are worse than us. If Chesterfield had still been ahead in their game (or If they come back and get a point) we are in even more trouble.

10 without a win, players that don’t look bothered and a manager making bizarre team selections. Worrying that we can’t get wins against the teams around us.

Vale ruining yet another Saturday afternoon.

Penalty miss was half arsed, Pope was fit we’d have easily won that but can’t have an excuse, had the chances to kill them off and didn’t.

Both clubs should be ashamed of the scenes late on too.

Swap 10 for 16 and that’s us since December - you’re not alone!
