We've still not made signings any other than Alex Curran from Colne.

We don't currently have a recognised left back so Dan Cowan has been filling in during pre-season so far.

We all know that Jim is meticulous in his recruitment, so I have no doubts that he will find the right players to plug the gaps in the squad to give us a really competitive 18/19 players that are equally as capable as each other.

Last season's title winning side was not just the first 11, but the ability to make changes and not weaken the starting 11.

So, it feels like we can finally contribute to this in a meaningful way! We've got a week to try and sort out the obvious massive holes, but something like this...

GK - Ross Fitzsimons
RB - Matt Tootle
CB - Fuck knows
CB - Pierce Bird
LB - Damien McCrory? (On trial but probably now sign)
DM - Michael Doyle (C)
CM - Mitch Rose
CM - Jim O'Brien (Technically on trial but will sign)
AM - Enzio Boldewijn
ST - Nathan Tyson (On trial but probably now sign)
ST - Kane Hemmings

Subs from - Andy Kellett, Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sam Osborne, Will Patching, Tom Crawford

That actually looks... okay!?! Kristian Dennis is injured but feel we've got to get him into the team once he's fit, will surely score goals at this level. The big one is that centre back, we need to pluck someone big, physical and experienced from somewhere.

Exactly the same problems we ended last season with. No big target man, no LB, weak at Centre Half and an ageing midfield,(Doyle s past it). The spine is very weak as it was last season.
We really could do with offloading Enzio and Dennis and probably Hemmings who should score 20+ if he stays fit and get a service.W
Are Patching, Crawford (who I like) Oxlade and Kellet going to be offloaded too I wonder.

We know our starting XI now, as that's how we lined up yesterday:

Joel Dixon

Brad Barry
Josh Granite
Sam Hird
Patrick Brough

John Rooney
Jason Taylor
Lewis Hardcastle

Dior Angus
Scott Quigley
Josh Kay

Wrexham (our first opponents) will be well aware of a few players in our squad, but our main threat this season will be our attacking prowess down the right.

This is a massive guess as Taylor has played many formations and players and no settled team even the last two games yesterday and Friday.

This is a 3-5-2 or 5-3-2 either way, formation played most last season.

Honestly reckon that XI can beat anyone in the league. It's just the complete lack of depth that's the problem, apparently we already picked up one long-term injury in yesterday's win at Oldham with Darren Stephenson breaking his leg

Hard to tell what our first 11 will be but I would guess

Montgomery

Burke
Byrne
Whitmore
Duxberry

Montrose
Croasdale
Haughton

Koyslo
Rowe
William's

bradley, philliskirk, Jameson, yeates, green, Willoughby, craigen.

This is the certainly the strongest squad we've ever had. Probably forgot a couple of names as well. Be interesting to see whether he starts yeates or haughton. Same with bradley/koyslo. I think William's will be a starter. We have real strength in depth now though which we didn't have last year. Confident we'll go better than last season and as long as we turn draws into wins away from home we should be top 3

Going by the players he has bought, it won’t be a 3-5-2 this season. More like a 4-2-3-1 (4-4-2)

———————Justham
Wright—-Brundle—-Clark—-Gordan
————Otamatey—Robinson———
McQueen———Balanta——-Luque
———————-Quigley——————

Wouldn’t be what I’d go for but it’s my gut feeling with the teams he has put out. Agree with you though that every position has a player who could just as easily be chosen aside from probably Justham and Balanta.

Posted my starting line up prediction for Saturday in the pre season thread but I’ll throw it in here too!

Going off Sheridan’s preferred formation, pre-season performances and his favoured players I reckon we’ll start this season with this team:

GK - Luke Coddington

RWB - Jonathon Smith
CB - Will Evans
CB - Anthony Gerrard (C)
CB - Hayden Hollis
LWB - David Buchanan

CM - Robbie Weir / Laurence Maguire
RAM - Joe Rowley
LAM - Liam Mandeville

ST - Scott Boden
ST - Anthony Spyrou

Subs:
Jalal
Maguire/Weir
Weston
Yarney
McKay

Obviously we’ve still got big Tom Denton to come back into the team once he’s fit, whether that be in the starting line up or it we decide to use him as an option to throw in off of the bench.

In an ideal world I’m sure Sheridan would have loved to have got another attacker or two in, probably wide players, alongside an out and out full back. However, he team we’ve got should be more than good enough to mount a play-off/promotion push...

Can’t wait for it all to start now!!

Yeates will surely be a first choice. It's an impressive squad though and only thing to derail would be someone coming in for Challinor that he couldn't turn down. Absolute certainties for the top 3.

Maybe he will start yeates I'm not sure. He could always go with one holding midfielder and yeates and haughton in front of him. Haughton is a really good player and challinor said end of season he wants to play him centrally this season to get him on the ball more. Roll on next wkd. Man I've missed football

Based on our pre-season games. I'd guess:

Sam Johnson

Michael Duckworth
Nathan Clarke
Matty Brown
Ben Wyatt (Been on trial all pre-season

Niall Maher
Jack Earing

? (Jacob Hanson or a new player I'd guess)
Cameron King
Jamie Allen

Tobi Sho-Silva

Bench: Will Appleyard, Josh Staunton, Harry Freedman (Only a youngster) Liam Nolan (Been on trial all pre-season) Josh MacDonald (If he's fit)

We've had Regan Booty on trial most of pre-season so we may potentially sign him too. Still got Dayle Southwell to come back from injury. Sanmi Odelusi in a similar situation to what Stephenson was with Stockport. Suspect he may end up signing despite getting released to make up the numbers. Even he's injured though at the moment.

Wild has said he wants 3 new signings in by Saturday. We had a training fixture yesterday which consisted of a lot of trialists by the sounds of it and a game against Oldham on Tuesday so suspect some transfer movement is due any day.

A positive pre-season on the pitch continues to be marred by concerns off of it. The preferred status of the proposed takeover by Errol Pope and Scott Priestnall was publicly announced on the 25th June but after a few initially positive signs, the silence has been deafening across the past few weeks. After the initial wave of signings, numbers have since been harder to come by and we go into Saturday’s opener away to Barnet with a wafer-thin squad.

We look set to line up in a 3-4-1-2 but whether this will be our preferred system once we have some key players return to fitness remains to be seen.

Stuart Nelson

Albi Skendi
Lee Collins
Tom Bradbury

Craig Alcock
Matthew Worthington
Tom Whelan
Carl Dickinson

Ryan Seager

Rhys Murphy
Miles Hippolyte (subject to confirmed signing)

Sub GK?, Daniel Ojo, Nestor Shako, Courtney Duffus, Gabriel Rogers

I'm sure Denton will be fully fit soon - what with all that cricket he's played....

Didn't know if he's fit or not. And if he is, he's at his very best in the middle of the park
He is fine - his girlfriend gave birth yesterday.

I think he’s at his best in midfield but still a better option than Cowan at centre back.

Apart that I agree with your team for the opening day.

Bench of:
Ormson
Cowan
Turnbull
Curran
Bell (if fit)

Hopefully we’ll add an additional centre back and an extra winger sooner rather than later.

Difficult to call as we have a plethora of midfielders and centre halves but I think we'll line up something like this:

GK: Worgan / Mersin

Defence:
Bobby-Joe Taylor
Kevin Lokko (c)
Scott Doe
Aaron Simpson

Midfield
Jack Munns
Oscar Gobern
Michael Woods
Nassim L'Ghoul

Strikers
Alfie Pavey
Inih Effiong

Subs:
Will de Havilland
Josh Passley
Ricky Modeste
Jai Reason
Steven Rigg

Could be miles off the mark because the squad is looking strong all over. Think we've got a massive chance this season. Would like to have seen a more quality goalkeeper though, but time will tell if Mersin is up to it.

Devonte Redmond

Bobby Grant
JJ Hooper
Mark Harris

Bench-
Christian Dibble
Leighton Mcintosh

I only expect to see another forward to come in now to replace Fondop. Somebody to compete with Harris and Mcintosh in the squad.

Unsure , probably somebody like Halifax. Apparently teams are only interested in a loan with us contributing to the wages , where as we would like to get rid permanently.

Thanks, probably explains why we didn't sign him then as Devonshire seemed to like him.

Hard to disagree with any of that. I think Dibble will start against Barrow, but Lainton is the superior keeper and will regain his place when fit.

Chelmsford were rumoured to sign him on loan. Even if a team pays 50% of his wages, we need him gone.

If he does that's a very good signing for NL South.

Get Munns behind the striker and he’ll excel.

Had a spell last season where he was excellent but then Taylor played him wider and he lost impact.

Hard to see him stay much longer. It's disappointing as I'd have liked to see him knuckle down and show what he can do in training and give us another option. He does have ability and you'd think he could have learnt from players like Hooper. We've got plenty of potential games this season with the Caramel Wafer Cup (sigh) and FAT on top of the league and hopefully an FA Cup run. If the reports he came back to training unfit etc are true then he's completely shown himself up.

He's looked very good in pre-season, technically superior to any midfielder we had last season. The problem is we have 4 or 5 very similar players now so I'm still not sure how we'll line up yet.
