Port vale have been the better team but done nothing with it, we have had two chances and scored one, the other so unlucky not to in.

CJ and White the only players to have turned up, one of the worst performances of the season so far.

Very disappointing, sounds a real poor second half from us mixed with a red card to our best player and another Aspin masterclass of a substitution.

Happy to not cave in when down to ten I guess. Need to get that out the system and get back to winning ways.

We were wank, a embarrassment in front of goal still should have scored 4.

Truly horrific, Mansfield way better.

Not an excuse but 6 Vale yellows and Mansfield first one after 87 mins greeted by a standing ovation.

Shocking Vale, abysmal ref, Mansfield in first gear

Wank

That’s what you get with heavy financing... if only Mr Smurthwaite would do the same! (Or sell up and let someone else!)

Can’t comment on referee as not there (although we are usually powder puff so eight yellows was a surprise) but he was the clown who didn’t give that penalty v Newport (then wrote one of the five or six apologies we’ve had this season)

I'm sat here on train to Nottingham absolutely numb

Truly shocking yet people clapping them off.

Mansfield were so far superior and never got out of first gear

But that’s the point isn’t it, we are not competing financially with clubs who traditionally certainly in recent decades have been far behind us such as Lincoln and Mansfield... now if we were losing money hand over fist I would understand that but we’ve made 2.3 million in transfer fees in the last two years, made a profit a year ago for the first time in donkeys.

No surprise that the year we went up, Pope got 4K a week, we signed the likes of Hughes and Purse on big money.

That’s football. Money makes it work (well unless your Notts County of course!)

Yes agreed just a pity that throbbing bell end Kewell wasn't in charge today still.

As for ourselves too many folk are happy with 14th as it's an improvement

Fuck yourselves right off

Anything less than promotion is an abomination and today epitimosed why we are light years away.

1-0 looks respectable,it was far from it

I don’t consider this club being in league two as acceptable (Without a promotion challenge) and last season was tough to take. I think the issue is the club was so badly damaged after the foreign experiment and Michael Brown that it will take more than a summer to fix.

We are far better than a year ago certainly, goalkeeper and defence and the central midfield. We just lack creativity, width and a scorer to compliment Pope... that’s the next two transfer windows which we need to work on.

It’s frustrating and hard to take us doing nothing in the forth tier but you can’t rebuild that mess in a year without millions!

Firstly any complaints against the referee is daft, everyone who got a yellow (or red) deserved it completely.

Port Vale were incredibly dirty physical today and we actually struggled to deal with it in the first half but luckily they created nothing and we should have gone in 2-0 both from CJ but one attempt hit the bar.

Second half we controlled the game better but never really got going, a few more pathetic misses and then we took the foot off the gas even with them being down to 10 men, really was not a great performance but i'll take it.

Aspin said the two yellows for the red were spot on, felt we should of had a penalty first half which the local reporter felt was one but we rarely get them given!

I cannot remember any penalty appeal at all but i'll look back at it.

The Vale fans were getting irriate and sarcastically appauled when our player got booked but I think it was down to being so frustrated at the team more than anything, the only thing I noticed the referee was getting wrong was letting Pope be a professional shirt puller.

Agreed. I know we are physical as well but they left a bit on the man after the tackle had gone and they had no chance of winning it at least three times.

The game itself was quite similar to Grimsby the other week. Frustratingly it felt like we had a bit more quality, were the better team but couldn't put away the clear-cut chances.

The Port Vale centre back with the bandaged head I felt had a good game but he may have stood out because of the bandage. Pope was very, very mardy.

Pope got hauled down just before you hit the post apparently.

Pope gets frustrated because he gets very little, any 50-50 goes against him and often is held, jumped on, shoved and generally gets given nothing week to week.

What does he expect the defenders to do? Just let him hold the ball up? What a baby!

Not at all but if a foul it should be given and a 50-50 he shouldn’t always be penalised, same happens to many targetmen not just Pope.

Hard to explain how a 1-0 was played by 2 sides in a completely different universe.

That’s Mansfield all over, we should have had 5 or 6, the gulf between the 2 sides was completely ridiculous.

I felt a bit for the port vale players as though each of them and their fans thought each late challenge wasn’t a yellow the fact was the Mansfield player had gone past him before he knew what he was doing and fouled either through a late challenge, frustration or complete incompetence.

That we were actually trying to cling on in itself at the end was ridiculous, I can’t even remember port vale having a shot, shocking following also, Though as always with vale fans I’ve met, all quality the ones I met.

Still, that should have been 5/6-0, stop being so wasteful!

Clarke will be a Championship regular this time next year but he has had a shitter with that goal! Completely fell asleep there.

Manny can have no complaints, rusty from so long out maybe but he’s late and referee has no choice. Great recovery from Brown when slipping although their striker has had a shocker with that chance.

This is what frustrates me. Historically you are a smaller club than Port Vale, yet your player budget is probably twice or three times ours. We've had nearly 2.5 million alone in transfer fees in the past year yet we are relying on lads from non league and you are signing experienced league players. Crazy.

We were toss today but I thought the midfield and defence were pretty similar standard on both teams. It's the attack where your budget has bought you waitrose and we're scrapping in the middle aisles at aldi.

Burton are a smaller club than us but they been jollying it up in the Championship and have been at least a league above us for years, so what?

Also our attack has been our weakest point all season, you must of seen first hand how wasteful we are in front of goal.

And with regards following, if we were top, we'd be taking 1500 - 2000 to Mansfield, which is something you could only dream about.

It creates though... our issue isn’t so much the attackers, all be it we’ve smashed Notts County and Newport for example and missed shed loads but it’s the lack of creativity. That’s an area we have yet to address but this club won’t change in one season from the worst in its history to promotion challengers. We’ve cured a few problems and for me the meltdown from our fan base tonight is completely ridiculous.

It's a frustration at our mismanagement rather than the fact that smaller teams are doing better than us. It's more around the fact that our budget should be twice that of mansfields yet they are able to play players with historical ability to do well in the league above and we're basically relying on pope.

Well based on the fact Sunderland TV and gate money pays half our November wages according to Smurf we appear to have a £3.5 million wage budget :bg:

Do Port Vale have double the revenue than Mansfield then?

Budgets go far beyond what you get through the gates or being a bit of a bigger club.

Not being funny like but our crowds are only just behind Port Vales and we have only just started to actually win consistently , that was our first back-to back win in the league all season!!

Ours are lower because we are going through the worst period we’ve had in decades, generally we’ve averaged around 5500ish.

We have revenue streams outside of a Saturday. The half built Lorne Street Stand has plenty of facilities, even a child play centre thing.

The difference is your owner is splashing the cash, ours is buying a Tesla and Nuneaton Borough’s stadium!

We hit the jackpot when Jordan Hugill went from PNE for £10 million to West Ham with a 20% sell on but well nothing has changed with it. He financed a massive foreign experiment which resulted in relegation... ended up having to pay most of them off possibly gone in repairing that damage who knows.

We are lucky that Aspin for all his faults does seem to be able to find a gem or two (it was he who discovered Vardy and Lee Gregory) and has signed some Non Leaguers who have proven to be surprisingly decent in Rawlinson (TNS), Hannant and Vassell (Gateshead), Oyeleke (Aldershot) to add to the few decent money signings like Miller, Legge and Brown to get a decent foundation to start to build on or we could of found ourselves in a scrap again.
